Section 9 The New Military Revolution (II)

The term "New Military Revolution" came later, a general term for the tremendous military changes that took place in the more than two decades between the end of the First Global War and the outbreak of the Second Global War. This military change was mainly focused on two aspects (the name of the Tang Empire, while in other countries it was divided into three aspects), namely, the mechanization of armor, and the dominance of aviation units in the war.

The mechanization of armor, which is mainly focused on the army, is beyond the scope of the discussion. After the commissioning of the world's first aircraft carrier, the USS Langley (converted by the United States of America from the 5,500-ton naval coal carrier USS Jupiter), the Imperial Navy also began to develop its own aircraft carrier, and two years later, the first experimental aircraft carrier "Aviation Pioneer" was built. This is a small aircraft carrier with a displacement of less than 8000 tons, mainly for experimental purposes. However, when the world's naval powers began to build large fleet carriers, the Imperial Navy did not build a single real fleet carrier for ten years. It was only five years ago that the Imperial Navy approved the construction of the "Emperor" class fast fleet aircraft carriers.

In comparison, the way in which the Empire develops aircraft carriers is very unique. Almost all naval powers have adopted a small and fast approach when developing aircraft carriers, gradually becoming familiar with the construction and use of aircraft carriers by building several aircraft carriers with experimental nature. On the contrary, after the construction of the "Aviation Pioneers", the Tang Empire spent almost all of its forces on the construction of battleships in ten years to replace the old capital ships and continue to maintain the "two-power principle". As a result, for ten years, the engineers of the Imperial Navy could only fumble on drawings, and this was a serious lack of funding. If it weren't for the fact that General Liao Hanxiang "jumped ship" to the Navy five years ago and persuaded Marshal Satitin on the grounds that all other powers were vigorously developing aircraft carriers, I am afraid that the construction of the "Emperor" class aircraft carrier would have dragged on for several years.

The conservative thinking of the Imperial Navy, the huge military spending that was cut after the war, and the large number of old warships waiting to be replaced in the Imperial Navy. All this cost the Imperial Navy the precious time of the first ten years. However, the Empire's powerful shipbuilding industry, a large team of naval engineers, and a strong industrial base made the Imperial Navy transform from a country without aircraft carriers into an aircraft carrier power almost overnight. When the "Gaozu" was launched, it was the aircraft carrier with the largest number of aircraft in the world, and it was also known as the most advanced aircraft carrier. Of course, this is only on the surface.

Tan Renhao has a unique fondness for aircraft carriers, and when he first learned about this powerful naval combat weapon from internal reference materials, he decided that aircraft carriers must be the future maritime hegemon, and they are new warships that will eliminate the battleships that have dominated the seas for hundreds of years from the long river of history. However, in this revolution of the Imperial Navy, there are not many people who have the same ideas as Tan Renhao and Liao Hanxiang, especially in the upper echelons of the Imperial Navy, from Marshal Satieting, to the commanders and chiefs of staff of several other fleets, and then to the presidents of major colleges and universities, almost all of them are supporters of the doctrine of "big ships and big guns", they simply do not believe that mosquitoes can bite elephants, and they do not believe that those fragile aircraft can pose a threat to battleships with thick skin.

It can be said that the Imperial Navy is already lagging behind the three main opponents (Japan, the United States of America, as well as the British Empire) in the development of aircraft carriers. According to the provisions of the Matsue Treaty, the Reich could build a total of 100,000 tons of aircraft carriers, while the total displacement of the three "Emperor" class aircraft carriers (the "Aviation Pioneer" was officially decommissioned two years ago) was less than 60,000 tons (standard displacement), which means that the Reich still has a lot of room to build new ones. However, the Imperial Navy has not yet announced plans for the construction of new aircraft carriers, but is building three "Dignity" class battleships to replace the three "Chongqing" class battleships that were commissioned at the end of World War I.

Tan Renhao and Hao Dongjue were both avid aviation enthusiasts, and both of them were loyal followers of General Liao Hanxiang, and they both "took the initiative" to ask to come to the Fifth Fleet. As a result, when it comes to the current state of the Imperial Navy, both of them are very angry, but their performance is completely different.

"Anyway, if it's our chance, we're missing out on this last chance!" Hao Dongjue was very excited, and unconsciously, he had already used the tone of a leader. "The Imperial Navy has been able to dominate the seas for hundreds of years, and apart from the support of strong national strength and the hard work of dozens of generations of naval officers and men, we have almost never been left behind by the enemy in any military revolution. If we miss this opportunity, maybe five years from now, someone will regret it. ”

Tan Renhao smiled bitterly, he had the same feelings as Hao Dongjue, but he was not as excited as Hao Dongjue. They are only second lieutenant officers in the navy, the lowest officers, and maybe, in ten or twenty years, they will become imperial admirals, but before becoming generals, it is definitely a huge mistake to comment on the development of the navy, or even to deliberately imply that the decision-making mistakes of the navy's top brass are absolutely huge.

In stark contrast to the excited Hao Dongjue, there is also Chang Zhixin. He was not well-versed in aviation combat theory, and he was a half-conservative naval officer. However, during this period of time, he was greatly influenced and gradually recognized the advanced points of aviation combat theory, but he was not as excited as two young people who were five years younger than him, but very steady.

"Renhao, shouldn't we come up with a plan, with the Japanese fleet as an imaginary enemy, if we can make the exercise famous, maybe we can get Marshal Saitting's attention."

Tan Renhao shook his head and said to Hao Dongjue, who was very excited: "First of all, this is not a problem that we should consider, how the exercise is conducted must be decided by the Navy Command, and we are just the ones who carry out the mission." Secondly, even if we want to prove something, we will not look for the Japanese fleet as a target, we can't expose the strength of the Imperial Navy to the most likely enemy, can we? ”

Hao Dongjue was stunned for a moment, and then sat down with a gloomy expression.

"Let's do what we have at hand first!" Chang Jianxin came out to end the discussion, "At the very least, we should finish the task on time." ”

"Yes, let's do our own thing!" Tan Renhao let out a sigh, and his mood gradually calmed down, "During this time, we don't have to be so nervous, let's go collect some information first, or according to the division of labor last time, let's formulate a few sets of plans for the fleet that Japan may visit, no problem, right?" ”

Both shook their heads, and a new job began.
