Chapter 8: Cleaning the Cave
Vane looked at the sky, the bright sunlight making him a little dizzy. He lowered his head, rubbed his eyes, picked up the mini compass and continued to walk south.
At this time, it was past noon, there was no howling cold wind, no endless fog, and the wasteland had some life. The snow hare came out of the hole and looked around vigilantly, several meerkats stood side by side on a small mound and looked into the distance, reindeer with forked horns looked for food in the distance, and even a piece of sea buckthorn on the ground looked very cute.
Vane walked on the frozen sand, observing his surroundings and adjusting his direction. There should have been multiple entrances and exits in the underground cave where the white ghost was hiding, but the fog was too great at that time, and Vane only cared about escaping, only remembering the approximate distance, and did not remember where the entrance was.
Vane never understood why he had agreed to the elves to "clean" the white ghosts, and he clearly remembered that he was reluctant at the time, but he agreed. Maybe it was because I saw the girl's pitiful appearance...... Forget it, and repay the kindness of others for providing you with food and water.
"But the meat seems to have been left out for too long...... Vane muttered to himself, rubbing his rumbling belly, his expression slightly pained.
At that moment, the air around them suddenly became a little hazy, and the snow hare quickly ran back to its burrow, and the reindeer also galloped on their long legs.
Seeing that the fog was about to rise, Vane became a little anxious. Those hidden holes are not easy to find, and the surrounding area is deserted at a glance, and there is not much difference.
The fog grew thicker, and just when Vane was a little desperate, he noticed something strange in a coarse sand field not far away. The coarse sandy ground was next to a rock, the middle part of which was sunken downward, but the surrounding area was very flat.
Vane ran over quickly, crouched down to the side and observed. Sure enough, a crack was found in the middle of the rough sand, and Vane poked it with his staff. Soon the chasm turned into a passage large enough for one person.
It was dark inside the passage, so Vane picked up a stone and threw it down. Almost at the same time, the sound of stones falling to the ground sounded below.
Wayne propped his hands on either side of the passage and put his legs in first. It was empty, and his feet bobbed back and forth without kicking anything.
Gritting his teeth, Vane let go of his hands. After only a short distance down, his body landed firmly on the ground.
In front of him was a passage more than one person high, but it was somewhat similar to the previous passage covered with spikes, except that there was no pit and rattan at the top.
Vane cast a magic shield on himself, and he didn't want to be shot into a sieve by a dark arrow or sprayed with venom all over his body.
Sometimes things don't work out of your mind. Vane reached the end of the passage and saw no movement.
Outside the entrance of the passage seemed to be a vast cave, and Vane was about to walk out, but he saw two green lights flashing not far away, and a sound of rustling came over. Vane immediately tensed up, leaning his back against the wall of the passage.
After waiting for a long time and there was no movement outside, Vane took some spider silk, and when his eyes gradually adjusted to the darkness, he slowly groped his way out.
In the gloomy underground caverns, both in terms of sight and reflexes, Vane knew that he was far from being a match for these white ghosts. Since the white ghost didn't kill himself when he was unconscious before, then ...... Vane immediately had a bold idea.
It looked similar to the cave he had visited before, but Vane couldn't be sure if it was the same cave. He didn't look closely, but walked briskly towards the center of the cave.
As he approached the center, Vane suddenly collapsed limply, as if he had fainted. If you look closely, you can see that his eyelids are slightly open, and the eyeballs inside are still moving back and forth.
Ten minutes, twenty minutes, half an hour passed, and there was still no movement around.
However, Vane was not in a hurry, he had already chosen a softer land when he "fainted", except for being a little cold, it was also more comfortable. He lay on his back on the ground with his staff in his hand, making sure he had the maximum line of sight.
The silence of the empty cavern was like entering a silent world, except for the faint sound of running water, except for the sound of Vane's own breathing.
"Oo......oo
From the narrow field of vision, Vane saw several white figures approaching him. They are very cautious and nervous at the same time, and the occasional noise under their feet will startle them, and they will not move for a long time.
The white ghosts slowly gathered around, and because of the light, Vane could only see them vaguely. The white ghosts are not full of fangs or ugly, but rather look like elves, except for their frightening white skin and green eyes.
Vane could see no less than ten white ghosts, and he didn't have time to admire the appearance of the white ghosts at this time. His muscles tensed, and he muttered a mantra in his mouth. Multiple distinct arcs of electricity were created at the tip of the sapphire staff, and blue lightning was constantly jumping.
When the white ghosts saw the lightning of the staff, they immediately screamed and fled in all directions. But chain lightning didn't give them a chance.
The gloomy cavern was illuminated, and a blue-white lightning bolt struck a white ghost in an instant. After that, it jumped like a glowing flea and jumped continuously onto the white ghosts around it.
It all happened between the lightning and flint, and despite Vane's best efforts, the blue lightning disappeared just as he was about to jump onto the last white ghost.
The white ghost cried and ran to the mouth of a cave. Vane quickly got up from the ground, clutched his staff, and chased after him......
It is a small room, or cave, with a "bed" made of thin twigs and leaves. At this time, the white ghost, who had just escaped, was huddled on the bed tremblingly with her "cub" in her arms.
And in the corner of the cave stood a red columnar totem, engraved with unique patterns and words, exactly the same as the totem in the northern elf village! Vane froze in place for a moment.
"You...... Can you speak?" Vane asked after a long silence.
The female white ghost hugged the "cub" in her arms tighter, and said something in a frightened voice, a bit like elven language, but Vane didn't understand.
Could it be that these white ghosts have something to do with the elves, or that they are elves themselves? Then why do the old people in the village say that these white ghosts are evil creatures that summon the undead, and they have been mistaken all along?
Vane felt his blood surging upward, his brain buzzing, and the hand holding the staff trembled slightly.
No way, the old man in the village won't talk nonsense, there must be something wrong.
Vane hesitated for a long time, and after one last glance at the white ghost mother and son who were hiding in the corner and shivering, he walked out.
