Chapter 020: The Four Phases of Shu and Han
Later generations called Zhuge Liang, Jiang Wan, Fei Yi and Dong Yun the four ministers of Shu and Han, but in fact, only Zhuge Liang served as prime minister, and the others managed the government with Shangshu Ling.
Dong Yun is relatively unknown among them, and he is not the successor designated by Zhuge Liang, but Dong Yun was once in charge of the affairs of the palace and dared to correct Liu Chan's misconduct, so Liu Chan was more afraid of Dong Yun.
[Shang Shuling Dong Yun, Lu Yi]
Dong Yun, whose name is Xiuzhao, is the son of Dong He, a general in charge of the army, Dong He is a native of Zhijiang, Nanjun, and his ancestor is a native of Jiangzhou, Ba County. When Liu Bei canonized the crown prince, Dong Yun was elected as a housekeeper and waited for the promotion to wash the horse. After the queen Liu Chan inherited the throne, Dong Yun was promoted to the rank of Huangmen squire.
Prime Minister Zhuge Liang will march north to Cao Wei, live in Hanzhong, worried that the queen Liu Chan is young and does not distinguish between good and bad, considering that Dong Yun is fair and selfless and frank, he intends to let him serve as an assistant in the palace. So Zhuge Liang Shangshu said: "Guo Youzhi, Fei Yi, and Dong Yun, etc., are all good ministers selected by the first emperor to leave to His Majesty. I think that they should be consulted on matters in the palace, no matter how big or small, so that they can be able to plug the leakage and obtain results. If there are no loyal and kind words, Dong Yun and others will be killed to punish them for their neglect. ”
Zhuge Liang soon asked Fei Yi to be appointed to join the army, promoted Dong Yun to serve in the army, and led the general of Hu Ben Zhonglang to command the personal soldiers in Yuzhong. Because Guo Youzhi's personality has always been amiable, he is just a name. The task of advising the emperor was almost completely undertaken by Dong Yun. Dong Yun dealt with the problem in order to prevent it from happening, and tried his best to save the problem. Liu Chan often wants to choose beautiful women to fill the harem, Dong Yun thinks that the number of concubines of the ancient emperor does not exceed twelve, and now the number of concubines of the future lord is enough, and it is not appropriate to add more, and always insists on not obeying orders. The queen Liu Chan was even more afraid of him.
When Shangshu ordered Jiang Wan to serve as the assassin of Yizhou, Shangjiao wanted to give way to Fei Yi and Dong Yun, and commended "Dong Yun has served in the palace for many years, assisting the royal family, and should be given a knight and a seal to reward his merits", Dong Yun insisted on resigning. Liu Chan gradually grew up and favored the eunuch Huang Hao. Huang Hao was flattering and climbed up. Dong Yun often criticized the emperor for his superiors, and severely reprimanded Huang Hao for his subordinates. Huang Hao was afraid of Dong Yun and didn't dare to do evil. When Dong Yun was alive, Huang Hao's official position was no more than Huang Mencheng.
In the sixth year of Yanxi (243), Dong Yun was crowned as an auxiliary general. In the seventh year of Yanxi (244), Dong Yun served as a part-time scholar in the middle of the service and served as the deputy of the general Fei Yi. In the ninth year of Yanxi (246), Jiang Wan died in the same year.
After Dong Yun, Lu Yi was his successor within the Shu Kingdom. Lü Yi's father, Lü Chang, was the general who originally sent Liu Yan to Shu, but he could not return to the Central Plains due to the blockage of the official road.
He lost his father when he was a child, and he liked to read and play the piano. At the beginning, Liu Bei pacified Yizhou and set up the post of captain of Yanfu to manage the financial benefits of salt and iron. Lu Yi was later promoted to the county magistrate of Xindu and Mianzhu County, and he was kind-hearted and sympathetic to the people, and the people praised him, and he was second to none among the counties in the state. He was also promoted to the position of Brazilian Governor.
Prime Minister Zhuge Liang sent troops for many years, requisitioned soldiers, money and food from various counties, and many places could not be delivered in full in time, Lu Yi recruited 5,000 soldiers and handed them over to Zhuge Liang, he condoled these people and explained the reason and supervised and restrained, none of these people escaped. Lü Yi was transferred to the post of Taishou of Hanzhong, and concurrently served as the superintendent of agriculture, responsible for supplying military grain and grass. After Zhuge Liang died, Lü Yi was promoted to Guanghan and Shu County Taishou several times.
Shu County is the location of Kyoto, there are many household registrations, and after the death of Zhuge Liang, there are many soldiers who desert, and some people take these people's empty military salaries, and treacherous people have appeared in various places. After Lu Yi arrived, he carried out prevention and prohibition, and he enlightened and exhorted the soldiers, and within a few years, more than 10,000 people who had left the military and voluntarily came out.
Later, Lu Yi entered the court as Shangshu and replaced Dong Yun as Shangshuling, and official affairs were handled in a timely manner without delay, and there were no guests staying in the door. Lu Yi successively served inside and outside the court, lived a frugal life, was modest and few words, concise and not cumbersome in government, and was known for his ability to be clear and capable; However, the usage is too strict and too deep, and he likes to use civil officials and laymen, so although the official is in a high position, his reputation in the counties is not very good. In the fourteenth year of Yanxi (251), Lü Yi died.
After Lu Yi's death, Chen Ji succeeded him as Shang Shuling.
[Rulers of the post-Zhuge Liang era]
Among the four phases of Shu Han, Zhuge Liang has the highest status and is the real prime minister, Jiang Wan and Fei Yi are just Shang Shuling, Jiang Wan's highest official is the Great Sima, Fei Yiguan is the general, and Dong Yun has only been a part-time Shangshuling in the service for two years, but because Dong Yun has been a waiter for a long time, he has well restrained the eunuch power within Shu Han, so Dong Yun's influence is not small.
As for Lu Yi, he himself is not a Jingzhou faction, nor is he a descendant of Zhuge Liang, and after coming to power, because the usage is too strict and too deep, he has a bad reputation in the local area, and the evaluation of him by later generations is also average, and he has not been included in the list of famous ministers of Shu Han.
After the death of Zhuge Liang, Jiang Wan began to serve as Shang Shuling from the twelfth year of Jianxing (234), promoted to the general, and later was appointed as the great Sima, controlling the power of Shu Han, until the sixth year of Yanxi (243) because of serious illness, Fei Yi began to serve as a general, and the following year (244) Jiang Wan had resigned the position of Yizhou Assassin to Fei Yi, and completely delegated power to recuperate.
Fei Yi took over the banner of Jiang Wan from the seventh year of Yanxi (244) until he was assassinated in the sixteenth year of Yanxi (253), and the two were in charge of the Shu Han dynasty for almost twenty years, which was about this time in the post-Zhuge Liang era of the Shu Han dynasty (234-253).
Jiang Wan and Fei Yi as the heirs of Zhuge Liang, basically continued Zhuge Liang's policy, both of them went north to Hanzhong to fight against Cao Wei after controlling the troops, during the Jiang Wan period, because of Jiang Wan's own physical problems, Shu Han failed to launch a large-scale offensive, and when Fei Yi took power, he thought that he was inferior to Zhuge Liang, so he limited the scale of the Northern Expedition and waited for later generations. Therefore, in the post-Zhuge Liang era, Shu Han's threat to Cao Wei has always been relatively limited, but because of this, Shu Han's military consumption is not very large, and it is completely within the scope of bearing.
Politically, Jiang Wan, Fei Yi, Dong Yun and Lu Yi have all served as Zhongshu Ling, Fei Yi and Lu Yi have served as Shangshu Ling for a relatively long time, the first three were brought out by Zhuge Liang, and there is no problem in politics, although Lu Yi has a general reputation in later generations, it is undeniable that his ability is still good. Chen Jian also began to emerge later, but because the time was still short and Fei Yi's influence was still there, the negative impact caused by Chen Ji was not big at first.
Political stability and military restrictions all ensured the national strength of Shu Han in the post-Zhuge Liang era.
