Chapter 295: Taiping Island—Unsinkable

Taiping Island is really a good place, because Taiping Island is close to the equator, in the equatorial windless zone, almost no typhoon invasion, is one of the few islands in the Nansha Islands that has fresh water resources, the island has good soil quality, fertile soil, covered with a variety of tall and dense tropical vegetation, coconut groves, papaya trees, banana trees are distributed throughout the island. It has an absolute survival advantage that no other South China Sea island can match. Woody Island, the largest island in the entire South China Sea Islands, is incomparable to the Paracel Islands because there are no fresh water resources on the island.

It is of great strategic significance to build Woody Island in the Paracel Islands and Taiping Island in the Nansha Islands into comprehensive military bases, and become strategic points for China to control the entire South China Sea, and to defend the rich oil resources under the South China Sea. It is also the focus of China's national defense project construction. The central government demanded that a solid defense system be established in the South China Sea islands, and that there should be no upper limit, and the construction of national defense projects in the South China Sea islands began.

Taiping Island is long and narrow from east to west, with low and flat terrain, and is composed entirely of coral reefs, which is almost the size of two large multi-sports fields. Although there are fresh water resources on Taiping Island and the groundwater table is also very high, the water quality contains a high proportion of chloride salts, and the water quality is not suitable for drinking except for a few wells in the eastern part of Taiping Island.

In order to meet the needs of the construction of Taiping Island and the livelihood of the officers and soldiers stationed on the island, as well as to supply the passing ships of the Chinese Navy, China drilled a 630-meter-deep well in the western part of the island. In addition, many facilities such as water collection pads and reservoirs have been built on the island. At the same time, a seawater watermaker capable of producing 4 cubic meters of fresh water per hour was equipped, and with the development and construction of Taiping Island, a seawater purification system was later built.

In order to meet the island's power supply, the island is equipped with four 1,200 horsepower diesel generators and a set of solar installations with a capacity of 40 kilowatts as a backup power source.

While fulfilling the national defense obligations in the South China Sea, the troops stationed on the island, together with the infrastructure engineering troops, built fortifications around the island, air defense positions and well-equipped barracks buildings on Taiping Island.

China has paid great attention to the protection of the marine and land ecology in the construction of Taiping Island, and the entire Taiping Island is full of green trees, birds and flowers, and the greening rate has reached more than 90%. Most of the buildings are hidden deep in the woods, and from a distance, only a few towers, weather stations, and radar stations stand out slightly. However, in this beautiful scenery and fairyland, the Chinese Navy has deployed Sea Hawk shore-based anti-ship missiles, surface-to-air missiles, self-propelled anti-aircraft guns, phased array radar positions, and a complete defense system integrating anti-air, sea, ammunition, and artillery firepower on Taiping Island.

In terms of air defense, the air defense network in the airspace of Taiping Island is composed of 35-mm double-barreled self-propelled anti-aircraft guns and Thunderbolt-9 surface-to-air island shells. Equipped with 12 Thunderbolt-9 missile launchers and 24 35-mm double-barreled self-propelled antiaircraft guns with high muzzle velocity, high rate of fire, high firing accuracy, and fast reaction speed, this system can deal with more than 30 air targets at the same time.

The search radar matched with the 35-mm double-barreled self-propelled anti-aircraft gun has a range of up to 40 kilometers, has 24 frequency points, can automatically convert frequency, can capture and track more than 10 batches of low-altitude and medium-altitude targets, and has 24 photoelectric sensors integrated with it. Including thermal imaging, television cameras and laser rangefinders, it can automatically track and measure enemy targets around the clock.

Coastal defense is equipped with Sea Hawk shore-to-ship island shells and 122-mm "Tempest" 40-barrel self-propelled rocket launchers around the islands. It covers the sea area within 120 kilometers. At the same time, a large number of small-caliber guns of all kinds were also deployed, and Taiping Island was transformed into a military fortress, underground defense, and modern life.

In order to build Taiping Island into an unsinkable aircraft carrier, a modern airport with a runway with a length of 1,200 meters and complete facilities for large military transport planes, heavy fighter planes, and various military aircraft to take off and land was built on one side of Taiping Island. Since the soil of Taiping Island is mainly coral sand and phosphataceous limestone, and the surface hardness is insufficient, the construction troops poured cement into the coral reef and transported concrete containing metal materials from China for the construction of the airport's runway, underground oil depot, and large underground warehouses that can store heavy weapons and fighter jets.

In order to accommodate more combat planes at the Taiping Island airfield, the South China Sea Fleet's naval aviation units have all converted their "Falcon" fighters to the Taiping Island base into foldable wings and strengthened landing gear. Counting the reserve fighters in the underground hangar, Taiping Island Airport can accommodate 105 military aircraft.

On the basis of the submarine base built on Taiping Island during World War II, the South China Sea Fleet's infrastructure engineering group filled Taiping Island with steel plates for large warships and "Dolphin" diesel-powered submarines.

At the same time as the construction of military projects on the island, a cable television differential turntable, a radio station of the Voice of the South China Sea, and a "commercial street" were also set up on the island; on both sides of Zhonghua Road, there were supermarkets, banks, postal services, telecommunications, guest houses, singing rooms, restaurants, hospitals, reading rooms, gyms, and other facilities for the soldiers, thus greatly enriching the material and cultural life of the officers and men guarding the island. Of course, there are more female soldiers in these service industries, which is also in line with the natural law of "men and women match, and they are not tired of work".

Turning Taiping Island into the largest military center of the Nansha Islands will certainly greatly enhance China's offensive and defensive capabilities in the South China Sea.

With the irreversible strong rise of China's economy and military and the construction of Woody Island and Taiping Island in the South China Sea, this cannot but cause panic and anxiety in some countries around the South China Sea.

When these neighboring countries thought that a catastrophe was coming, Yue Yi felt restless, restless, and panicked, and began to constantly test China's bottom line and China's level of patience.

Relying on its special relationship with the United States, the Philippines has stubbornly grasped the "life-saving straw" of the United States, and has taken the lead in making a tentative move to intervene in the South China Sea with "US interests" that are beyond its capacity and do not know the height of the sky.

The Nansha waters are rich in fishery resources and are the largest tropical fishing grounds in China's marine fisheries. As a result, in addition to Chinese fishermen, many fishermen from countries such as the Philippines, Vietnam and Malaysia have also come here to catch fish. In 1956, the principal of the Manila Navigation School, Tom Scroma went on an expedition to the Nansha Islands, and he claimed to have "discovered" nine major islands such as Thitu Island, and named them the Kalayaan Islands, and the Philippine Navy tried to prevent Chinese fishermen from fishing in this area.

Thitu Island, one of the islands and reefs of the Nansha Islands, is 800 meters long, 500 meters wide, and covers an area of 0.33 square kilometers, making it the second largest island in the Nansha Islands. The name "Thitu" Island was named to commemorate the warship "Thitu", which took over the sovereignty of the Nansha Islands by the Kuomintang Political Axe Navy in 1946. In later generations, Thitu Island has been occupied by the Philippines since 1971, and there are garrisons, airports, shops, power plants, etc. on the island, and it is the command center of the Philippine rule over the Spratly Islands. There is a big well on the west bank of the island, the water quality is good, it can be drunk, there is a coconut grove in the northwest, it is up to 18 meters, and there is a small temple in the Qing Dynasty in the middle.

On February 18, 1960, a Chinese fishing boat was unreasonably obstructed and expelled by the Philippine Navy while fishing near Thitu Island, a traditional Chinese water, and the Philippine Navy tried to detain the Chinese fishermen when they refused to leave.

"Seizure? Bragging B! This is China's territorial waters, you have already invaded China's territorial waters sovereignty, if I don't detain you Filipino maids' warships, you will be cheaper, don't get out of here quickly! Xie Dahai, the captain of the Qiongyu No. 301 fishing boat, faced the behemoth of the Philippine Navy's No. 532 American World War II LST large tank landing ship painted in dark gray, without fear, craned his neck, and roared loudly with the megaphone on the ship.

The Philippine Navy landed ship No. 532 with a length of 99.97 meters, a width of 15.24 meters, an empty displacement of 1,625 tons, and a full load displacement of 4,080 tons. The power is 2 diesel engines with a power of 18,000 horsepower, a speed of 12 knots, and a crew of 120 people. It is equipped with two 40 mm double-barreled cannons, six 40 mm single-barreled cannons, eight 30 mm single-barreled cannons, and one 76 mm gun in the bow.

"These Chinese fishermen are too fierce!" What the officers and men of the Philippine Navy's No. 532 landing ship did not expect was that the Chinese fishing boat, which was about 40 meters long, had a tonnage of less than 200 tons, and had a power of more than 300 horsepower at most, dared to put its ship in front of its own warship and would rather die than retreat. Moreover, more than 30 crew members also took out American M1 carbines, Ben-38 rifles, and a bazooka, and wanted to play with their lives.

Chinese fishermen are amazing! The Chinese fishermen of this era are not like the fishermen of the 21st century, when the fishermen were organized, supported by the state and their own soldiers, and were not afraid of the navy of these countries such as "Filipino maids" around the South China Sea. Moreover, the fishermen themselves are militiamen, and they all carry guns when they go to sea, and the large fishing boats also carry machine guns and rocket launchers, which is the power of all the people.

In the face of this situation, the captain of the Philippine Navy's No. 532 landing ship, Barayo, really couldn't get off the stage, he didn't expect it to be like this, how could his big warship not let a small fishing boat scare back. So he gritted his teeth and stamped his feet to order: The whole ship entered a combat state, and for a while, all the guns on the No. 532 landing ship were aimed at the Chinese fishing boat, and it looked like he was going to sink the Qiongyu No. 301 fishing boat, in a vain attempt to scare the Chinese fishing boat away.

"I'll hang your old mother's remains, if you dare to take a step forward, I'll hang you, do you know?" Xie Dahai, the captain of Qiongyu No. 301, scolded and sent a signal for help to the Chinese Navy.

After receiving a signal for help from the captain of the fishing boat, the South China Sea Garrison of the Chinese People's Liberation Army on Taiping Island immediately dispatched two "Falcon" fighters and one LST1 tank landing ship carrying a "Hunter" armed helicopter and two 122-mm "Tempest" rocket launchers on the deck to quickly rush to the accident site.

At this time, China did not have the same good temper as China in later generations, and there were not so many "Tao strategies" as "taoguang and obscurity", "shelving disputes and joint development", and "harmonious world". Complicating what was originally a very simple problem has evolved into a very hot hand to deal with. Turn an easily solvable problem into an unsolvable puzzle. The current policy is that you have violated my core interests, and you will play with you from top to bottom, and if it is a big deal, you will "go back to Jinggangshan".

It's okay to be Taoguang, or it's okay to be obscure, but there must always be a bottom line in doing things, and the bottom line of territorial sovereignty cannot be ambiguous. Whoever is who's is who's, oneisone, twoistwo. Why should you "jointly develop" your own land? If you can't beat others, you can ask others to take them away, that's because you don't have the ability. When the ability is great, take it back. However, if you take the initiative to invite others to your home's own land for "joint development", you will legalize the entry of others into your home.

And in fact, this is exactly the case: since the chaos in the South China Sea was born, a dispute has been shelved and jointly developed to deal with it. Ma and other countries have come to "joint development". An island today, a reef tomorrow. All that remains for China to do is to take the trouble to express "protests" and "declarations" such as "anger", "unacceptable", "illegal", "non-recognition", etc. Then there is the "two big knives" by yourself. What kind of self-deceptive deterrence actions such as ship drills, missile test launches, and fighter planes running thousands of miles away. Toss around on your own. The result is counterproductive -- on the contrary, it makes people see the essence of weakness, which is the ability of the donkey of Qian. Those small Southeast Asian countries, after they formed alliances with each other and were unscathed in their provocations and attempts, became so bold that they ignored the "anger" and "feelings" of the Chinese, completely overturned the basic framework of "shelving disputes and joint development," and declared "sovereignty" over the islands occupied in the South China Sea.

The huge waste caused by that set of "force deterrence" with fists and embroidered legs can really cause a war, and even if it causes some tension in this region, it can also show its determination and will to defend sovereignty. Perhaps it can evoke the blood surname of the starting nation, so that the world has some scruples and does not ignore the existence of this "big country". It is better than facing the chaos in the South China Sea to sacrifice one's fate, fool around for a while, and let those countries that occupy our territorial islands and reefs unscrupulously encroach on them.

At present, those countries that are in the South China Sea, let alone oil extraction in the South China Sea, and even fishing in the South China Sea must be allowed by the Chinese fishery administration to carry out the fishing within the prescribed scope and within the specified time, otherwise the consequences will be serious. Not to mention that warships come here to play "horizontal".
