Fourteenth Secret Talks: Peripheral Relations2
Deng Feng then talked to MZD about Sino-US relations:
In the 60s and early 70s, the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union entered its peak, and at this time the Soviet Union entered its heyday and was on the offensive around the world, especially in Europe. The United States was mired in the Vietnam War, and a considerable part of its navy, army, and air force were deployed in Vietnam, unable to take care of the strategic focus of Europe. At this time, the relationship between China and the Soviet Union was in the most tense period, and after the Battle of Zhenbao Island, the Soviet Union deployed millions of soldiers on the Sino-Soviet and Sino-Mongolian borders, giving us great military pressure. Based on the above three points, both China and the United States faced a powerful common enemy--- the Soviet Union. So they came together, thus ending the 20-year tense standoff between China and the United States. After Nixon assumed the presidency of the United States in 1969, in view of the changes in the balance of political power in the world, he advocated improving relations with China. In October 1970, U.S. President Richard Nixon asked Pakistani President Yahya Khan, who was about to visit Yench, who had good relations with both China and the United States, to convey to China that the United States was ready to improve relations between the two countries. On April 27, 1971, China officially sent a note to the United States through Pakistani channels: China's political axe reaffirmed its willingness to openly receive the President of the United States in Yanjing for direct meetings and discussions. The next day, Nixon gave Kissinger the task of making a secret visit to China. On July 8, during his visit to Pakistan, Kissinger suddenly disappeared from the sight of security personnel and secretly boarded a Pakistan Airlines Boeing 707 plane to fly to Yanjing. From 9 to 11 July, Zhou Enlai held talks with Kissinger. The two sides focused on discussing the Taiwan issue. Zhou Enlai insisted that the United States must recognize Taiwan as a province of China, and that the Taiwan issue is China's internal affair and brooks no interference from outsiders. The United States must also set a deadline for withdrawing US troops stationed in Taiwan and absolve the US-Chiang "Mutual Defense Treaty." Kissinger said: (1) Recognize that Taiwan belongs to China. (2) The United States will no longer be an enemy of China, will no longer isolate China, and will support the restoration of China's seat in the United Nations, but will not support the expulsion of representatives of Chiang Kai-shek's clique. (3) The United States is prepared to withdraw two-thirds of its US troops stationed in Taiwan within a specified short period of time after the end of the Indochina War, and as for the US-Chiang Mutual Defense Treaty, the United States believes that history can solve this problem. On July 16, the two sides issued an announcement on the talks. It was announced that US President Richard Nixon would visit China at an appropriate time before May 1972 upon invitation. On February 21, 1972, Nixon and his entourage arrived in Yenching for a seven-day historical visit to China.
Deng Feng explained to the chairman with some pride: "It is extremely rare for a US president to visit a country for seven days in the history of the United States. The night you came, you met him in the study outside," he said, gesturing to the drawing-and-study outside. Nixon has been your fan ever since," Deng Feng said with a bit of teasing.
MZD asked puzzled, "What fan?" f-a-n-s”
MZD showed a somewhat innocent smile and said: "How could he become my fan", "The accurate translation should be an admirer of personal charm," Deng Feng further explained.
Deng Feng then went on to elaborate on the later history
The thaw of Sino-US relations has brought about a fundamental change in the world political pattern and formed a situation in which the triangular relationship between China, the United States and the Soviet Union has been formed. After that, China began to return to the international stage. It has established diplomatic relations with more than 100 countries in the world.
On December 16, 1978, China and the United States issued the Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the People's Republic of China and the United States of America. China and the United States announced mutual recognition and diplomatic relations effective January 1, 1979. It was decided to exchange ambassadors and establish embassies on March 1, 1979. From then on, China and the United States entered the Secret Moon Period to jointly suppress the Soviet Union. This was also one of the external conditions that led to the collapse of the Soviet Union. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the United States began to contain China again, suppress China's rise, and constantly challenge China's core interests.
MZD said: "Tell me about the Vietnam War again"
The Vietnam War was a war fought by the Republic of Vietnam, also known as South Vietnam, and the United States against Ho Chi Minh's Republic of Beng Cook and the South Vietnamese National Liberation Front. The Vietnam War was the war in which the United States participated in the war with the largest number of people, the longest time, and the most significant impact after World War II, and was actually a contest between the two camps in India after the Korean War. In 1959, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam decided to overthrow the South Vietnamese regime by force and unify the whole of Vietnam. They sent a large number of military personnel to South Vietnam to organize armed subversion. In 1960, the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam was formed, which was formed by Viet Cong guerrillas and controlled by the Central Committee of the Viet Cong. Due to the rupture of Sino-Soviet relations, both China and the Soviet Union needed to establish their own image in the international [***] movement, so they both actively supported the attack of the Vietnamese Republic of Minh Cook on South Vietnam.61 US President Kennedy decided to show the strength of the United States and its determination to confront the socialist camp in Vietnam. At the same time, it is believed that the war should be better limited to the United States' conventional arms support for the South Vietnamese political axe, so as to reduce the direct threat of nuclear war between the United States and the Soviet Union. On July 31, 1964, the Gulf of Tonkin incident occurred: a U.S. destroyer USS Maddox in neutral waters near the territorial waters of the Republic of Minh Cook in support of South Vietnam was attacked by a Vietnamese People's Army torpedo boat, and on August 4, when the Maddox was sailing north, it was overcome. The United States retaliated by bombing the Vietnamese People's Army naval base. Both the Vietnamese Republic of Minh Cook and the United States saw it as a deliberate attack by the other side, and both reacted strongly. The Vietnamese People's Army (VPA) has launched attacks on a number of US bases. The Vietnamese People's Army entered the territory of South Vietnam to assemble. The U.S. political axe announced that the Republic of Minh Cook of Vietnam had attacked the U.S. [***] ship located on the high seas. The U.S. Congress announced on August 7 that the President was authorized to use all actions, including armed forces, in his judgment to respond to the incident. This effectively gave US President Johnson the power to wage war without declaring war, and in February 1965 the US Air Force retaliated after an attack on a US military base in South Vietnam. On March 8, 3,500 U.S. Marines landed in Da Nang, South Vietnam, becoming the first U.S. ground fighters to enter the theater. On July 24, after a U.S. F-4C was shot down, Johnson raised the U.S. force in Vietnam to 125,000 troops; The next day, 4,000 personnel of the 101st Airborne Division of the US Army entered Vietnam. By the end of the year, the number of U.S. troops in Vietnam had reached 184,000. By August 1966, as many as 429,000 U.S. soldiers were stationed in Vietnam. In addition, South Korea's political axe also began to send combat units such as Qinglong (the 2nd Brigade of the ROK Marine Corps), White Tiger (the 9th Infantry Division of the ROK), and the Tiger (the Capital Division of the ROK) from 1965 to 73 years, and a total of more than 300,000 South Korean soldiers participated in the Vietnam War in the nine years to 73 years, and 50,000 were in Vietnam at the most. Of these, 4,687 were killed. To pay for South Korea's defense spending, the United States has provided South Korea with about $1 billion. In addition, U.S. allies, including Benedict and the Philippines, have all been indirectly involved. Taiwan's military advisers, electronic warfare, and agents are also very active in South Vietnam, and Taiwan has sent a small number of special forces into Vietnam to participate in the war, but the scale and frequency are not large.
The Federal Republic of Germany, or West Germany, found an opportunity to circumvent the constitutional ban due to its strict constitutional restrictions on sending troops abroad. Avoiding public discussion of the issue at home, the West German political axe, at the request of the American political axe, concealed from the common people, and secretly sent 2,500 German [***] men, including 120 pilots, to Vietnam in the mid-60s, who flew US Air Force planes to directly participate in military operations against Vietnam. Then there is Australia: 7,672 people in the fighting, 500 dead and 2,400 wounded. Thailand: 5,000 combatants, 350 dead. New Zealand: 552 combatants, 83 dead. Canada: number of participants unknown; 56 people died
In this war the USSR sent a large number of military advisers, and anti-aircraft missile forces. Other socialist countries also sent military technicians in varying numbers, with China sending the largest number of troops, with 320,000 troops participating in the battle, 1,446 killed and 4,200 wounded.
The Vietnam War was the longest war in the history of the United States. During the more than 10 years of the Vietnam War, the United States spent at least $250 billion. More than 60,000 people died, more than 305,000 were injured and more than 5,000 are missing. Although militarily the United States was not completely defeated, it showed a major mistake in American Cold War strategy. The Vietnam War dramatically changed the dynamics of the Cold War. Through the Vietnam War, the United States changed from a strong side to a weak one, and in the face of the Soviet Union's aggressive attack, the United States could only actively cooperate with China. The Vietnam War exacerbated the racial and civil rights issues in the United States, divided the country in an extremely divided state, and caused great mental trauma to the American people.
This war has cost both sides enormously. Eight million civilians in Vietnam have died in more than a decade of war. At the end of the war, 1 million orphans, 2 million widows, 500,000 disabled people, and 700,000 women were left behind in the devastated land of Vietnam. The total casualties on both sides of the war were 3.8 million, including more than 1.3 million dead, more than 2.5 million wounded, and more than 700,000 missing.
Deng Feng took a deep breath and said: "Our country is the most important supporter and aid country of the Republic of Vietnam. In the past ten years, China has provided more than 80 billion yuan to Vietnam, and the average person in the country has to get more than 10 yuan a year, which is the living expenses of one person in the urban population at that time. This has objectively exacerbated the burden on China's economy. If the more than 80 billion yuan is used to improve the people's lives, it can give the workers and political axe workers in the country at that time a salary of one level per year. If the company commander is used to build large and medium-sized enterprises in 20 years, thousands can be built. Despite the sacrifices we made. After reunification, Vietnam did not become a reliable ally of China, but took revenge on China, completely forgetting the selfless support provided to them by the Chinese. Completely forgetting the thousands of martyrs of the Chinese People's Liberation Army who forever lay under the red land for their liberation, they defected to the Soviet Union and became the evil dogs of the Soviet Union to contain our country in Southeast Asia. The armed occupation of Cambodia overthrew the pro-Chinese Cambodian regime. More than 4 million overseas Chinese were driven away. Causing the largest refugee wave in the world. At the same time, there is constant friction in China's border areas. Shoot and shoot. Killed and wounded our border people and border guards."
Speaking of this, Deng Feng said with some excitement: "The Vietnamese were eating rice aided by China, and at that time, the average Chinese were only more than 20 pounds of grain per month and wore Chinese-made military uniforms. At that time, Chinese only issued 7-foot cloth tickets per person per year. Holding a small number of weapons that the Chinese support of the Chinese [***] team was still equipped with at that time, under the officer system of those who had been trained by the [***] school, they constantly provoked border conflicts. In 79, China was forced to fight a 17-day self-defense counterattack, with more than 20,000 casualties. This 'comrade plus brother' border conflict has been going on for ten years. It was not until the complete collapse of the socialist camp in the 90s that the conflict ended with the collapse of the Soviet Union, which is why I fought hard against the so-called internationalism, which greatly lagged behind China's economic development. It has greatly affected the improvement of the living standards of the Chinese people. In those years, when we did not have enough food and clothing, we raised North Korea, Vietnam, Albania and other countries and were responsible for their construction. We give less, and if we slow down, they will change their faces immediately. Intimidating us by taking refuge in the other party. Just before we came to this era. We also provide a large amount of material aid to the DPRK every year." Deng Feng shook his head in embarrassment and said, "China is a poor country with so many population bases. We really can't afford this boss! The end result is nothing but to drag ourselves down," ** fell into deep thought.
When I saw ** turn to myself and signal to continue. Deng Feng went on to talk about the Taiwan issue, and talked about the decline of the Kuomintang in the end, and the policy of **. talked about how countries around the world, especially the United States, contain China through Taiwan. Finally, he said: "For more than 60 years, Taiwan has become a testicle that China has been pinched by the United States. As long as China is not honest and the United States is not happy, pinch it."
** Firmly say: "This problem must be solved"
Deng Feng then recounted that the islands in the South China Sea were divided between several small countries such as Vietnam. Billions of tons of oil are extracted every year.
Deng Feng said angrily: "That's all the blood left to us by our Chinese ancestors!"
** Asked with some curiosity: "You said such a question, then why don't you descendants make a difference?"
Deng Feng was speechless
