In 1957, he was promoted to major general and served as Chief of Staff of the 1st Army of the South Korean Army. In 1959, Park Chung-hee served as commander of the 6th Military District, commander of the 1st Barracks District, deputy chief of operations of the South Korean Army Headquarters, and deputy commander of the 2nd Army Group. Park Chung-hee finally took a prominent position in the military that swayed the political situation in South Korea. In 1961, he launched a military coup d'état on May 16, overthrowing the regime of Yoon Pok-sun, the second president of South Korea, and reaching the pinnacle of his criminal life with the iron fist of military scholars.
