Chapter 9: Mrs. Barton
"It's the same as before. Mrs. Selena Barton leaned her crutches against the edge of her chair and sat across from Zack's desk, surveying the office at Grande House, "I thought Quinn's generosity would have you at least decorate this place!"
Zach motioned to Alice, and the banshee, who had come in with the old lady, nodded and exited the office. Talking to such an old lady is very difficult, and Zach needs to concentrate on it.
"Mrs. Quinn is indeed very generous, but everything here is left by my father, and we don't want to change anything. Including the chair that Madame is sitting on now, I wonder if Madame thinks it is still comfortable?"
The corners of Mrs. Barton's wrinkled mouth lifted slightly, and she remembered her complaint about the church chair at Quininn's funeral: "Quinn reminded me that you are a wonderful man. Sure enough, the chair was very comfortable and I loved it. β
"Madame likes it. I don't know if Lola told Mrs. SΓΉ that Alice is a great cook, and that Madame would like to eat something? I think Alice would be more than willing to cook something for her friend's elders. Zach kept smiling, a little to test what the sudden visit wanted to do.
Mrs. Barton chuckled and shook her head, her eyes becoming stern: "No need, I don't care who Lola is friends with. I have something I want to ask, and I hope Zachary Grande will be honest with you. β
Zach hurriedly stood up, straightened the folds on his clothes, and bowed slightly: "Zach." Mrs. Patton, just call me Zach. β
"Okay, Zach. Mrs. Patton waved her hand and motioned for Zach to sit down, "I want you to introduce you to the three brothers and sisters of Grande." β
Zach sat back in his seat and said calmly, "I am the eldest son of Grande, because my father failed to give my mother a name, and I have been living with my mother in the west of the Federation, running some small businesses. The war made life difficult for us, and when my mother died, I returned to Barton to find my father. Benjamin is my half-brother, but we have many differences in personality, he joined the army early, and when he was discharged from the army, his mother had died, so he came to Barton with my connection. Our younger sister, Alice, was an orphan in Barton and was adopted by her father. But Benjamin and I both took care of Alice like a sister. β
"Good. Mrs. Barton nodded expressionlessly and glanced at Zack, "Just like in the citizen file, you are very honest." β
Zach didn't answer, believing that Lady Quinn had done the investigation into them. Honesty at all, they don't care what Zack's true identity is, what they care about is whether Zack's tone is tight, whether he has the consciousness to keep the story consistent.
Zach looked at Mrs. Patton's face, and he and Benjamin had realized at Mr. Quinn's funeral that sooner or later there would be such a day. As aliens, they have to passively infiltrate the day of human life.
"I, Quinn, everyone. Mrs. Patton fiddled with her crutches: "We are all very pleased with the results of your handling of the Poch matter. Don't be nervous. Mrs. Patton looked at Zach, "We're not curious how you did it. When you've lived long enough and seen enough things, you'll lose interest in how things go and you just want results. β
Zack thought for a moment and nodded. It's not that Zach is currying favor with Mrs. Patton, it's that he's coming to the same conclusion based on his age......
Mrs. Barton chuckled again: "Don't go along with me. β
Zach tilted his head and smiled helplessly: "What is the reason why Madame is here this time?"
"Because of Kyle. Mrs. Barton's face turned stern again, staring into Zack's eyes: "If you can make a person go from normal to insane, then the reverse should be fine. β
Zach raised an eyebrow, he didn't think Poch Quinn was normal. But Zach's attention immediately shifted, and his brow furrowed. Alice had relayed Lola's worries about her brother, but based on what Alice 'saw' and Zach and Benjamin's judgment of Connor, Kyle should be able to recover soon.
"Did Lola and Alice talk about it?" Mrs. Barton watched Zach's expression change, "Then I don't need to say anything more. I think that my explicit request is much more straightforward than Quinn's ambiguous, utterly thrown to you in the words of 'the apparition of the Son'. β
Zach was surprised in his heart, is there nothing to talk about in the circle of these old ladies?
"Why, can't you do that?" asked Mrs. Barton, looking at Zach's somewhat surprised face, frowning.
Zach reacted and retracted his surprise, "No. Ma'am, did you say there was something wrong with Kyle's spirit? Lola didn't say that, but brought it up last weekend because of the pressure of the league's table and Mr. Barton (Kyle's father). β
Hearing that Zach did not refuse, Mrs. Barton's brows relaxed: "I thought so before, but obviously not, he always kept repeating a certain sentence by himself, and his temper became irritable. And he quit the team, and he didn't care about his studies. It's completely different from the Kyle I watched grow up, and there must have been something going on that he couldn't understand. β
Zach frowned, he was wondering why this was happening.
He opened his mouth to ask something more, but was stopped by Mrs. Barton: "I said it, I only want results." Mrs. Barton took her crutches and leaned forward to her feet. Zach quickly got up, walked around the desk, and picked up Mrs. Patton.
"I've said what I know, and what I ask. Mrs. Barton took Zach by the arm and walked out of the office, "Whatever happens, you, fix it!"
Since he has been asked to do so, what else can Zach say is to nod.
"Don't look unlucky!" Mrs. Barton looked at Zach with a helpless expression, "I'm more generous than Quinn!"
Zach smiled, he already knew that. Three days after Quininn's funeral, the church on the west side of the cemetery received a donation from Mrs. Patton stating that all the seats would be replaced. For this reason, the priest of the church also came to thank Zach, if it were not for the Grande House, he would not have received such a ceremony, and gathered a group of the richest old men and women in Barton City to come here.
Opening the office door, the young maid took over Mrs. Patton, and under the escort of the black-clad bodyguard, Mrs. Patton left the Grande House.
Watching Mrs. Barton's car leave, Zach frowned, and Alice couldn't wait to run to Zack's side, a little nervously playing with her hair.
Louise's departure also restored the banshee, who was not good at makeup, to her original appearance, and the deep outline made her eyes cast a small shadow in the sun, which always gave people a feeling of lack of energy.
Zach stroked the banshee's hair, "Don't worry, it's not about you and Lola." You're still friends. β
"Really?" the banshee raised her face, the shadows under her eyes disappearing, and her blue eyes reflected the sunlight in the sunlight, "Doesn't Mrs. Barton mind that Lola is friends with a girl like me?"
"Yes. Zach smiled, that's the way to talk to the banshee, one thing must be confirmed to reassure her.
Alice breathed a sigh of relief, Lola, who was the same age, thought it was cool to be home-schooled and not have to go to school, and it was cool to grow up in a funeral home, but she was already an adult, oh no, the elderly Mrs. Barton didn't necessarily think so. At least Mrs. Quinn thinks that this is not good for the growth of young girls. So Alice was worried that Mrs. Barton would restrict Lola from associating with her.
The banshee, who had been happy for a while, suddenly thought of something and looked at Zach suspiciously: "Then why did Mrs. Barton come?"
Zach's smile became a little bitter, "It's Kyle, Kyle doesn't seem to have recovered from the 'accident', but has become stricter." β
Alice was stunned, it only took a moment for Kyle's stricter thinking about it to be put aside, and the banshee's expression became worried, she was worried about her friend. I wonder if Lola will be more worried about her brother becoming like Pochi.
"Are you worried about Lola?" Zach asked softly as he looked at the banshee's face and reached out to stroke Alice's back.
"Yes!" Alice nodded.
Zach thought for a moment, "Then let's go see how Lola is, she should still be in class now." You can go and accompany her. β
Alice nodded hurriedly, but immediately shook her head with some hesitation. Lola's school, Reipt High School, is a densely populated area, and Alice worries that she won't be used to that kind of situation.
Zach is not in a hurry, watching Alice herself struggling psychologically, whether Alice will go or not, Zach is going to go. He needs to get in touch with Kyle and figure out what made Kyle abnormal.
"I'll go!" Alice, after a few hesitations, decided, "Did Mrs. Barton ask for anything?"
"Yes. Zach nodded, "She wants Kyle to return to normal, maybe that 'Connor' has an effect on him, and Benjamin is going to see him." β
Something flickered in Alice's eyes, and she said hesitantly: "Zha, Mr. Zack......"
Mr.
Zack's brows furrowed, Alice doesn't usually call the bloodthirsty ghost Mr., after all, they exist in this society as brother and sister, in fact, their relationship is no different from that of brother and sister. But whenever Alice has something to fear, she uses honorific titles, which is the act of the weak praying for protection from the strong!
For example, when the cemetery is reclaimed by the city and the banshees think that the vampires and werewolves are leaving the Grande House to find another place to live, Alice calls Zach Mr. (Volume I, Chapter 8, House of Grande)
"Alice. The vampire pressed the banshee's shoulder and said seriously, "Don't be afraid, we are integrating into this world in a new way......"
Alice looked into Zach's eyes and eventually nodded.
Until then, the non-people of the Grande House had only occupied three legal statuses, received salaries from the city government, and in fact lived a secluded life in seclusion. And this qiΔ has disappeared with the change of times, and they have entered people's lives in an inexplicable way.
As Mrs. Patton said, she gave requests and generous payments regardless of the question, and the Grande House took care of the middle!
