The victory of 12 July was not an isolated border battle, and it was completely different from ordinary border conflicts. The howitzer battalion of our artillery group fired a round of rapid fire, and the front of the 1019 heights was quickly covered by artillery fire. In the rumbling explosion, the enemy suffered huge casualties, threw down seventy or eighty corpses, failed to steal chickens, and retreated in disarray.

At 3:20 a.m., the enemy attacked our high ground No. 1019 with the strength of a platoon. The 7th Company of the 15th Frontier Regiment guarding the 1019 Heights quickly discovered the sneak attack of the enemy, and when the enemy came within 30 meters of the front line, the 7th Company fired all kinds of firearms in unison, and a burst of grenades bloomed in the enemy bushes, and the enemy threw down a batch of corpses and retreated in a hurry.

The sneak attack on the 1019 heights was only a feint, and the real direction of attack of the Annam army was in the direction of Laoshan.

At 5:45, the 7th Battalion of the 818th Regiment of the 314th Division and a company of the Special Service Regiment carried out a battalion-scale attack on the 1072nd Heights and No. 75 and No. 76 positions guarded by the 4th Company of the 120th Regiment of our 120th Regiment by virtue of dense fog and dark cover.

The enemy's intentions were quickly discovered by our 4th Company, and the company commander called our artillery group and immediately launched a surprise attack on the enemy. The rumbling artillery fire quickly covered the attacking enemy, the enemy suffered heavy casualties, and the offensive was defused. The enemy's rampant counterattack aroused a high degree of vigilance on the part of the commander of our 40 th Division and the commander of the army.

In order to ensure the stability of our defense in the direction of the No. 1019 heights, improve the defensive posture of the left flank of the ship's head mouth, and ensure the safety of the main peak of Laoshan, the 122nd Regiment of the 40th Division quickly captured six heights in the east mountain of the Bali River on May 15, recovered the entire Dongshan area of the Bali River, and improved our defense system in the old mountain area.

The Laoshan and Bali River Dongshan areas were recovered by our army one after another, with the result that the gateway to the Qingshui area was opened, and the vast area northwest of the Annan River was directly under the control of our army, which made the top echelons of the Annan army very frightened by this.

In late May, Li Zhongxun, chief of the General Staff, Li Yuxian, deputy chief of the General Staff, and Wu Li, commander of the Second Military Region, and other senior commanders of the Annan Army all entered the front line of the enemy in the Ha Giang area. Together with the Polar Bear military advisers, they worked out the "MB-84" campaign plan to regain the Laoshan area point by point.

At this point, the large-scale plan for the battle of the enemy's Laoshan was formally formed.

In order to implement the "MB-84" Laoshan Campaign plan, the General Staff Headquarters of Annam set up an artillery command post of the Second Military Region's "Forward Finger" artillery command, supplemented the main force of the 313th Division, and rapidly mobilized the headquarters of the 356th Division, the 153rd Regiment, the 149th Regiment, the 150th Artillery Regiment, the 821st Special Task Regiment, two battalions of the 168th Artillery Brigade, and two battalions of the 368th Artillery Brigade to enter the starting point of the attack to prepare for battle.

It has replenished a large amount of munitions, equipment, and other combat materials, increased the deployment of one engineer brigade and strengthened two companies, rushed to repair the forward roads, and stepped up the construction of artillery concealment positions and command system fortifications.
