Chapter 27: Helicopters (2)

Perhaps it was because Class 7 attracted the attention of most of the Soviet army that we were able to escape the search for the "Hind".

Otherwise, on the one hand, the helicopter gunships hovering over our heads make us afraid to make any moves...... On the other hand, the Soviet army can mobilize a large number of armed forces to encircle and blockade us...... The Soviet army is smart, they are responsible for encircling this kind of thing, so what tanks, armored vehicles, and artillery can easily maneuver to the bottleneck of the mountain area for fire blockade, as for fighting in the mountains...... That, of course, is a matter for the Afghan government forces.

However, the actual combat is not so severe, because the night combat capability of this armed helicopter is not strong...... As mentioned before, it relies mainly on spotlight search, with the occasional flare...... When the enemy is discovered, it is necessary to cooperate with the artillery in order to pose a threat to us...... Otherwise, if it is within the range of our army's firepower, then our army's light and heavy machine guns and even bazookas will make it unable to eat and walk around.

This is the chicken rib of the helicopter gunship in the night battle...... Don't dare to get too close to the target, but you can't get too far away...... It's not that the weapon can't hit it, in fact, the heavy rockets on the "Hind" can attack targets up to two kilometers away...... But the problem is that in this night, and in the spotlight...... It's good to be able to spot a target 500 meters away!

That's why the "Hind" had to cooperate with the artillery...... But the problem is that artillery also has a disadvantage, that is, it cannot hit the anticline of the heights...... So that night, when we crossed the ridge of the heights, we killed the helicopters one by one......

Here's how the battle went...... When I came to the anticline of the heights with my troops, I realized that our opportunity had come, so I immediately contacted the other two troops by walkie-talkie...... At this point, we haven't gotten far yet. You can also contact each other with walkie-talkies.

We sent two troops to lurk on the top of the mountain...... Of course, there will be a few light and heavy machine guns and bazookas...... The reason why you want to lurk on the top of the hill is because you can get closer to the helicopter to increase the chance of shooting it down.

Then there was a scene played by our unit, which was responsible for luring the enemy...... Hassan took out an AK47 and fired a few shots into the air. Pretending to be a rifle misfire while running...... It is said that this is quite common among the guerrillas. The guerrillas are not very qualified, and they often shoot indiscriminately at suspicious targets.

On the other hand, the reason why Hassan was allowed to fight instead of letting our soldiers fight...... It's because the AK47 shoots louder than the AK74...... The AK74 is a small-caliber rifle, and although it has a long range, both the gunfire and the recoil are much smaller than the AK47, if the AK74 is allowed to fight...... I was a little worried that it would be masked by the noise of the helicopter rotors and failed to attract the attention of the Soviet troops.

Then the beams of light from the two helicopters soon appeared in our view...... The formation of two or three helicopters is rare on the Afghan battlefield, because the Afghan guerrillas generally have no weapons to threaten helicopters at this time...... In addition, there are not many helicopter gunships in the Soviet Army, so in order to improve the efficiency of the search, they generally let the helicopter fly alone, and tonight will be an exception...... I think one is because it's fighting at night. The formation flight was needed to cover each other, and the other was because the Soviets knew that they could annihilate their two mechanized infantry battalions in such a short time...... Then this unit must have good combat effectiveness, so it put away its previous attitude of despising the Afghan guerrillas to fly alone.

We should also feel honored in that regard...... But the problem is that they don't know that they have fallen into our ambush at this time, an ambush against helicopters!

"Hey! Hey......" one of the guerrillas shouted at the helicopter with blood on his face, "Babble" in Persian...... Although the Soviets did not understand it, they also knew that he was surrendering to the Soviet troops, because he had already raised his hands...... And put the gun at his feet under the spotlight!

If it's at any other time...... I'm sure the Soviets would shoot this Afghan without thinking about it...... The Soviet army does not have the same "three disciplines and eight points of attention" as our Chinese army, for them the barrel of the gun is the last word.

But now I think they'll think about it...... The reason is simple, they did not find any trace of our troops at all. They needed some captives for interrogation.

So they focused the spotlight on the partisans...... At the same time, the height was carefully lowered.

At this time, they were actually suspicious...... The reason is that they have been ambushed by too many Afghan guerrillas on the battlefield...... Although the belief in Islam is "confession with the tongue and honesty in the heart". That is, what it means to walk the talk...... I heard this from Saheide, and that's why they call themselves "Hui...... The "Hui" of the Hui people means that there are small mouths in the big mouths...... That is, what you say to the outside should be the same as what you say inside!

But now it's a battlefield...... If you still talk about matching words and deeds in the face of the enemy on the battlefield, then you can only say that you are pedantic.

Because of the experience of being "deceived...... So the Soviets became cautious at this point, and the two helicopters quickly divided their labor, one continued to lock on to the partisans, and the other fired a flare into the air...... Its purpose was obvious, it was to see if there were any ambushes around.

It's just that what the Soviets didn't know was...... That's exactly what we want, as flares can not only illuminate the surroundings, but also helicopters...... Although the goal of the helicopter was very obvious because of the spotlight, the spotlight was too small, and if we started to fight, the helicopter would probably turn off the spotlight and pull it up as soon as possible, so we had very little time.

But now it was different, the two helicopters did not realize that the main force of our ambush was actually at the top of the hill and not near it...... So the flare soon exposed them to the fire of our troops!

"Hit!" At my command, all three troops opened fire almost simultaneously...... Light and heavy machine guns and assault rifles rang out in an instant, and in an instant, bullets were fired at the helicopter from three directions.

But let's be honest...... We are directly below the helicopter, so we are not much of a threat to the helicopter.

Helicopters are not the same as tanks...... The threat of the tank is mainly from the front, followed by the side and back, so the thickness of its armor is basically in this order, and the top and bottom are the weakest parts of the tank's armor...... Because these two parts are rarely attacked.

But helicopters ...... It is mainly attacked on the ground, so the thick part of its armor is precisely the lower part...... So what bullets we hit from below was a "sonorous" sound on the lower armor of the helicopter...... Even a heavy machine gun is helpless against it, and the only thing to deal with it is to have an anti-aircraft machine gun or something like that.

I think this is also the reason why helicopter pilots dare to lower their altitude when they suspect fraud...... Luckily, we're not just setting it up below, it's also on the sides......

The fire from the flanks is terrifying...... At this time, the helicopter is more than 400 meters away from the top of the mountain in a straight line, which is beyond the range of an assault rifle, but the dense rain of bullets from AK74 or AK47 will still be lethal to targets at a distance of a thousand meters, plus this light and heavy machine gun...... So the two helicopters were confused and hurriedly climbed up......

From this point of view, the vitality of this Mi-24 is still quite tenacious...... The main reason is that it has two engines and two systems, so even if one of them is not broken or the fuel tank is blown out and the fuel gauge is zero, there is still about 20 minutes of flight time...... This design is enough to make it safe from the battlefield.

I regret it...... The two helicopters were already out of range of the bazookas, and the air currents around the helicopters were strong...... The wind deflection of the rockets was already very large, and it was blown by this air flow and fired out of the air, so several rockets failed to hit the helicopter...... This gave both helicopters the opportunity to climb upwards.

But just when I thought they were all about to escape from our ambush...... One of the helicopters began to smoke in the tail and spun in mid-air......

I couldn't help but rejoice in the fact that the tail slurry of this helicopter had been broken...... Although the tail slurry is small, it has a great effect on the helicopter because it plays a role in balancing the torsion...... If it loses its effect, it means that the helicopter will lose control.

Just like we can see...... The helicopter quickly spun faster and faster, and then hit the foot of the mountain with a "boom", and there was a red fire!

"Good!" The soldiers immediately cheered, and the hard work was not in vain.

Of course, the other helicopter didn't dare to stay for long, and flew back with bullet holes all over its body...... It didn't take long for Soviet artillery to carpet bomb the area, including rockets...... I have long heard of the Soviet rocket artillery, because the rocket artillery of our army is a copy of the Soviet army, and when it hits, it is a "rumbling" piece, and the entire hill on the opposite side is red.

But this bombing is destined to be a waste of ammunition, and we are on the reverse slope here...... Unless the Soviet shells can turn around, we can only watch us flee!

This battle also made me realize how difficult it was for Soviet helicopter gunships to deal with...... They were all ambushed by our army, and they were able to escape, and the one that was destroyed was partly due to luck. (To be continued......)
