Chapter 136: Equipment

After a few more parachute jumps, the fighters quickly became familiar with skydiving.

It's just that skydiving is far from being so simple, because the purpose of our parachuting is to fight, and the battlefield and climate are not chosen by us, so the soldiers need to practice parachuting in different terrains, different climates and even different altitudes.

This is easy to understand with different terrains and different climates, which are determined by the location of the battlefield and the timing of the battle at that time. As for why you need to practice skydiving at different altitudes, this is determined by the specific conditions.

For example, if the landing site is small and it is hilly or mountainous, then you should reduce the height of your skydive as much as possible.

A low altitude means a small dispersion, and a small dispersion means that it is easier for paratroopers to land at a predetermined position, otherwise...... In mountainous terrain, even if you deviate even a little, it is very likely that you will jump to another hill and not be able to assemble with the main army.

If the location where you want to skydive is likely to have enemy air defense, then you should choose to skydive as much as possible...... The higher the altitude, the more difficult it will be for the enemy's anti-aircraft fire to hit the planes, and this is especially useful for us, because in the future we are planning to use the Zhiwu for parachute operations, and the lack of defense of the Zhiwu seems to doom us to parachute from high altitudes.

However, this is not necessarily, because with our current relationship with the Airborne Forces, it is not a problem to borrow or call a few Yun-5 or even Yun-6. It's just that because military transport planes like the Y-5 and Y-6 are not suitable for participating in the war on the battlefield in Vietnam, it is better to use helicopters in actual combat.

If we talk about exercises, our Blue Army is a simulation of Soviet devils. The Soviets also had a few advanced transport planes at random. So there are no restrictions on that.

Of course. These trainings don't happen overnight...... That's the way this thing is trained, especially for a skilled class like a paratrooper, who can't eat hot tofu in a hurry.

According to Chen Shengde's words, especially our agent company can't be anxious.

He has been in contact with the soldiers a lot during this time, and he more or less knows how our synthetic battalion was formed or what kind of glorious history it has, so he also knows that every soldier in the synthetic battalion can be said to be the wealth of the army.

This is by no means an exaggeration, Chen Shengde said when introducing his experience: "Don't think that the ground is safe, because our paratroopers landed with an impact force of tens of kilograms." So the things on the ground that usually look very ordinary are actually full of murderous energy. For example, in our Airborne Forces, there have been many accidents in the course of training for decades, and I can't count the number of specific cases, and the fractures and other things are all trivial, some martyrs were pierced through the stomach by branches, some martyrs were burned to charcoal by hanging on wires, and some martyrs were cut into two pieces by the iron wire used to dry their clothes......"

"So during the skydive, especially when you are about to land, you must carefully observe the landing site!" Chen Shengde confessed earnestly: "Once you find that there are similar dangers at the landing site, then try to avoid these dangers according to the methods taught to you during the training!" ”

It is precisely because there are so many dangers in skydiving that Zhao Jingping is cautious in the training subjects formulated.

However, this does not seem to be a big problem for them, because they are also trained to skydive. Therefore, I have a good understanding of the training progress and difficulties, and then cooperate with the opinions of Chen Shengde and others. Therefore, the parachuting training was carried out step by step from simple to complex, from easy to difficult.

With Zhao Jingping's staff officers to complete these tasks, then I can also shift my energy to other directions.

The biggest headache for me is the problem of the combat effectiveness of the paratroopers.

"Battalion Commander Yang!" On this day, I summoned Chen Shengde and several of his staff officers to the office, and after the guards poured them tea, I asked, "I want to know how your paratroopers' usual training and exercises are carried out?" ”

"Training is similar to infantry except for parachuting!" Chen Shengde replied with some embarrassment: "For example, when there is no parachute training, you can find a random hill and conduct tactical training." And because of the constraints of funds and conditions, this kind of tactical training on the ground accounts for the majority! ”

"Hmm! In other words, most of the people you train are infantry? ”

"Hmm!" Chen Shengde nodded: "So the other troops call us infantry with umbrellas." We don't want to admit it...... But sometimes it feels like that word is really fucking like us! ”

Because Chen Shengde and I are the same battalion commander, and they are familiar with each other during this time, they have no scruples when they talk like friends, and this dirty talk comes out accidentally.

"Battalion commander!" A staff officer added: "Actually, sometimes we feel that we are not even as good as the infantry, because our firepower is too weak!" ”

"Yes!" Another staff officer followed up and said: "Battalion Commander Yang, you also know that the carrying weight of the transport aircraft is limited, and the carrying capacity of the parachute is limited, which makes the weapons we can carry are very few. This infantry is a car cannon at every turn, what about us? It's just a gun and a few grenades! ”

"Tell me about your gear!" I asked, "That's what your equipment is like during the actual combat exercise!" ”

While I know they won't be equipped with any heavy weapons, I'd like to know more specifically.

Chen Shengde replied: "In addition to individual weapons, they are bazookas, 60 cannons, 82 cannons, and 100 mortars...... A hundred mortars are rarely used, because the shells are too heavy, and sometimes mortars of 120 mm caliber are used depending on the situation, but to be honest, this thing is not very suitable for actual combat, and the batch of shells that are finally dropped can be finished in two and a half shots, and it is inconvenient to maneuver. In addition, there are eighty-two none, but because of the same reason as heavy mortars, the number of equipment is not much. In terms of machine guns, it is mainly equipped to Type 67. That's all! ”

Hearing this, I couldn't help frowning: "This kind of firepower, if you want to attack the fortification, especially the high ground where the Vietnamese army is stationed, I'm afraid it will be very difficult!" ”

Chen Shengde nodded in agreement: "Although our airborne troops have never fought in a war, our superiors often arrange for us to go to those troops that have fought to exchange and study, and in the process of this exchange, we also learned how the Vietnamese devils fought wars." This has also attracted the attention of the superiors, for example, most of us are small arms with a short range, but the more devils are commonly used to shoot flat with anti-aircraft machine guns with long range and high power, it can be said that a high ground only needs one or two anti-aircraft machine guns, and we can't do anything about them! ”

This is also what I want to say, although the mortar hits far enough, it is difficult to threaten the anti-aircraft machine gun hiding in the pillbox, and other equipment such as 82 Wu, Type 67, etc., its range is not as far as the anti-aircraft machine gun, and the amount of equipment is still very small.

On the other hand, however, paratroopers are a unit with a special mission. The special mission mentioned here refers to their deep penetration behind enemy lines to occupy important military targets, and this mission determines that paratroopers should not use human lives to pile up, but should win more with less, otherwise there will be no significance at all in actual combat.

"So be it!" After thinking about it, I said to Chen Shengde: "In order to make it difficult to understand the combat effectiveness of your airborne troops more clearly, let's conduct an exercise!" ”

"Drills?" Chen Shengde couldn't help but be stunned.

"Yes!" I said, "The two sides of the exercise are your airborne company and our agent company......

After thinking about it, I continued: "Our agent company is the Blues, and we are responsible for garrisoning a bridge, which is an important supply line for the Blues. The mission of the Airborne Forces is to parachute near this bridge and blow it up! ”

In fact, I set this to a great extent to reduce the difficulty of the task of the Red Army, that is, the airborne company, as an airborne unit, the most common task of the road is often to occupy the bridge and prevent the enemy from blowing it up to block the advance of the troops.

Naturally, there is no need to say more about the difficulty between blowing up and occupying the two.

"Battalion Commander Yang!" Chen Shengde said with some embarrassment: "Aren't you looking at our jokes!" ”

"yes!" A staff officer also echoed with a little embarrassment: "You are veterans of a hundred battles, all of you are elite soldiers among elite soldiers, and you are also well-equipped. And we're recruits who haven't fought a single battle......"

It's a bit of an exaggeration to say that the recruit is an egg, but if you look at it from the perspective of whether you have been on the battlefield or not, it is indeed a recruit egg.

"You can't say that!" I smiled and patted Chen Shengde on the shoulder: "If there are any jokes between you and me, my soldiers will not laugh at you, because you are all their masters." The main purpose of this exercise is to see what defects there are in the equipment and tactics of the airborne troops, and only after finding the problems can we find a way to improve them! This is a question of reform of your entire Airborne Forces. ”

Chen Shengde hesitated for a while, then nodded and said: "What Battalion Commander Yang said is reasonable, although I know that Lu Dao can't beat you, but if I don't show my ugliness in front of you this time, our army will eventually suffer on the battlefield...... I'm going to get out of the way! ”

"That's right!" I poured another cup of tea for Chen Shengde and the others, and said: "Actually, there is nothing ugly about it, for example, our synthetic battalion is now working hard to learn the tactics of the airborne troops, let's just pull it out and practice, learn from each other's strengths and weaknesses, and communicate with each other!" ”

In fact, my purpose is really as simple as that, that is, I want to see what level the combat effectiveness of the Airborne Forces is, or what kind of reform we should carry out, but as an Airborne Force...... They may think differently than they do. (To be continued......)
