Chapter 22: The Priest in the Church of the Son
"Would you like to visit Father Constantine?" Zach asked, looking at Mike, who didn't know what to think.
This is something that Matthew brought back yesterday, and Zach is also curious about what Konstantin is doing. Yesterday's Matthew had been hiding to the side, eavesdropping on the whole process, and it seemed to be just the most ordinary sermon. This makes even less sense, to preach to a necromancy, for what?
Mike's thoughts were interrupted and he glanced at Zack, "Constantine? β
Zach raised an eyebrow, "What's wrong?" and did Mary Chapel mention him so often?" Zach said in a casual tone, but he was actually inquiring.
"Yes. Mike nodded, "He's very, wellβ" Mike curled an eyebrow as he grew a long tail note, seemingly unable to find the right adjective, "Awesome." β
"Awesome?" Zach repeated, pouting and standing up, "Let's go." β
Mike also stood up, with an expectant look on his face.
On the west side of Benjamin's warehouse, in the open-air bathroom, Benjamin was found experimenting with a new razor. The wagon headed west from the Grande, passed through the cemetery, and stopped outside the Church of the Holy Child.
The Church of the Holy Child and Zach seem to be different from Zack's impression, the porch and front door have been redone, and there are actually more people. Not a believer, but a low-level demon who dodges a little after seeing Zack.
I once asked Zach what the relationship between demons and vampires was. This question is quite reasonable, for example, we know that vampires and werewolves are hostile.
Zach used a very vulgar metaphor to feel it.
"What do you think is the relationship between murderers and rapists who are kept in different cells in the same prison?"
Guess I dare to ask who the two correspond to?
But what really surprised Zach was that these low-level demons seemed to be workers, industriously shuttling around the church. Cleaning, tidying, repairing......
"Grande. Constantine's voice came from behind the altar, and the priest pushed open the small inconspicuous door, bypassing the statue of the Son representing the atonement. There was a hint of weakness on his face, well, ashamed. He nervously pulled his shirt flat, and the hem of the shirt was tucked into his waist.
Zach frowned. In his memory, the priest had never appeared so wolfly. Wolf bèi, for the priest who has always been clean and tidy, this state that seems to have just gotten up and dressed is the wolf bèi.
"Mr. Grande, I didn't know you were coming. Konstantin walked over to Zach with a hint of exhaustion on his face.
"I don't know, it's not what I think it is anymore. Zach looked around, and the interior of the church hadn't changed, but the windows were more vividly painted than before. It should have been patched again. None of this was true, and what really echoed Zach's words was that one or two demons quickly circled to the outside of the bench and cautiously exited the church.
Konstantin bowed his head slightly, his hand swiped over his chest, glanced at the familiar Zach and Benjamin, and then looked at Mike, and did not continue with Zack's words, leaning slightly sideways. "Come here. β
Inside the church, Zach was familiar with the room in the back. At the time of the funeral. The people of the House of Grande usually stayed here and waited, but this time the priest did not stop, and continued until he was completely out of the church area, passing a small courtyard with a row of bungalows hidden in the shade of the trees.
"Where have the nuns gone?" Zach frowned. Looking around, except for the middle house, which belonged to Konstantin, had its door open, the rest of the houses were closed. Zach also didn't see the former nun and the two priests, and asked questions.
"Them. Konstantin bowed his head and motioned for the three men to enter his room. "I was transferred back to the church. "As if to comfort Zach," Konstantin added, "Crowley promised not to hurt them. β
Zach glanced at Mike, who thought that Grande and Crowley had agreed not to touch Grande's neighbors.
Mike unconsciously looked at Constantine's home, the layout here was no different from that of the ascetics of old, the bed, the chair, the bookcase, the wardrobe, were gone.
"A tough environment will hone a resilient soul. With a smile on his face, Mike looked at Konstantin, his fingers brushing over his chest and bowing slightly, he was paying respect.
Zach shook his head, this was the first time he had entered the priest's residence, it was not surprising to see the situation of the Church of the Holy Son in the cold, but now that Constantine was surrounded by a group of demons, the environment of the church had been improved, and it was sad to look at it again.
"Can you give me and Mr. Grande some space?" Constantin said to Mike, nodding his head.
"Good. Mike nodded and walked out of the room unconcerned. His figure walked by the window, and after a while there was no trace. The courtyard, where there were originally people walking, was completely quiet, and he was driven away by Mike along with him.
Konstantin spoke first, "First of all, thank Monsieur Grande for what he did for Seth. β
The corners of Zack's mouth rose, and the smile was not very sincere, "Haven't you heard, there is no point in us doing it, the ending has already been written." β
Konstantin frowned, from the last time they met him in prison, he could feel that Zack's attitude had changed, and the once polite mutual respect had become the current estrangement.
Benjamin tried it on Constantine's bed, frowned and complained, "It's so hard." β
Zach and Constantine sighed at the same time, "How is Seth doing now?" Zach asked, waving his hand and smiling in a different way.
"Nice, just would complain about the food. Konstantin smiled helplessly. The 'Generals' are very efficient, but some are not so efficient, and Seth is expected to stay in for a few more days.
Zach looked out the window, at the church in the shade of the trees, and the head that appeared on the floor was taken back by Mikela, and said with a smile, "Are you asking for these?"
Zach was referring to the demon taking over the Church of the Son.
"Yes. Konstantin did not deny it, shook his head, a little helpless, but seemed to be relaxed again, "This is a good thing for the Church of the Holy Son, and it is also a good thing for the Church." β
Zach pondered Konstantin's words and nodded. The original Church of the Son was marginalized, and then after the appearance of Crowley, it became even more marginal. Now that sense of edge is gone, the demons have settled here, and this is Crowley's place. Crowley doesn't have the same prejudices as the human church used to be, and she only treats her territory in unison. 'A breath of fresh air', don't forget.
As for what Konstantin said is good for the church, I am afraid it is also a meaning, Konstantin is no longer isolated by the church because of Grande's relationship, but integrates into it and becomes a part.
Zach smiled, picked up a holy book on the table, carefully did not touch the inlaid silver cross in the center of the cover, opened it, and looked at the bookmark jammed chapter, which was the content of the last Sunday's service, 'The Holy Lord has created a person in his own image, and we love the Holy Lord, and we must love ourselves, because we share the same image with the Holy Lord.' β
Zach raised an eyebrow and looked at Konstantin, "Crowley is really retro. β
Konstantin also smiled. Having been integrated, the content of Constantine's worship was apparently to be instructed by Crowley. According to the content of the sermon after Crowley took control of the church, this demon, no, it is better to use the fallen angel, this fallen angel cares very much about the shaping of the human heart, that is, the ...... of the soul The quality of the soul.
"Let's talk about yesterday. "Zach put down the holy scriptures, and the estrangement of Constantine is actually a very naΓ―ve thing. What makes Zach uncomfortable is that he only vaguely feels the difference between his neighbors, but his neighbors know very clearly what they are, but they still accompany him to act, which makes Zach feel a sense of frustration of complete failure.
Zach had previously feared that Constantine was deliberately friendly with Grande because of Alice's relationship (Zack had thought that the reason Constantine persuaded Seth not to harass Grande was because of the Banshee in Grande's house). Now that he himself had given himself to Crowley, it was obvious that Zach had thought too much. Because between the demon and the Grande House where the banshee survives, a priest who has a relationship with the witch would give up the guarantee of being able to bypass death and 'dedicate' himself to the demon?
"Matthew?" Konstantin smiled helplessly, "just as he saw that I was just preaching." β
After watching Matthew's hiding, there was not much secrecy at all.
Benjamin pursed his lips, as if disgusted that Constantine's bed was too hard, pulled over the rattan chair in front of the desk, sat down, and moved his head in boredom.
"Why?" Zach asked curiously.
Konstantin pursed his lips and ran his hand over his chest, not knowing if he was confessing or something else, "As you said, she is retro, and she wants every soul to be 'born'." β
Zach raised an eyebrow, not knowing what to say for a moment. 'Born' does not mean that it is born as such, but that it comes naturally. Crowley actually hopes that the souls she has in her hands are like Dylan, demons that can naturally advance.
Zach was just about to lament that Crowley's idea was so whimsical, when he suddenly remembered Mike's previous words, 'Awesome'. Konstantin is awesome?!
Zach narrowed his eyes and looked at the priest in front of him, "What are you?"
Konstantin suddenly looked at it like this by the vampire, and seemed a little uncomfortable, and pursed his lips slightly in embarrassment. Benjamin was also a little curious, leaning back on the back of the rattan chair and looking at the familiar priest.
"That's rude. Zach looked at Constantine apologetically, and quickly changed the subject, "Then please ask the priest to help us keep an eye on Ryan." β
Konstantin's face remained embarrassed, and such a blunt turn did not help the atmosphere, but made people feel deprived of the ability to explain.
But Konstantin didn't continue to pull the topic back, sorted out the feelings, restored to the priest's usual appearance, and nodded, "I will." (To be continued......)
