Chapter 90: Tanks

When the guerrillas were training, our battalion headquarters was not idle......

First of all, we made a count of the equipment left behind by the Soviet army...... Naturally, Zhao Jingping is in charge of this statistical work, and he can be said to be my most effective assistant. In fact...... Now I have very little communication with the General Staff, but if there are any problems that need to be solved by the General Staff, I will directly throw them to Zhao Jingping, and then Zhao Jingping will subdivide these tasks into various staff officers, that is to say, Zhao Jingping is like the general staff of our battalion General Staff.

Because the Soviet army left a lot of equipment, and the quality of the equipment that fought is also uneven, especially a considerable part of the Soviet army's equipment has been secretly destroyed by them...... Although we said that we would not allow it during the negotiations, otherwise we would have done whatever it was, but this is actually just a lie, and I just don't want the Soviets to blatantly blow up tanks, armored vehicles, and so on.

And because of this...... The statistical work was only done for a few days, and Zhao Jingping gave me a preliminary statistical number on the third day.

"Battalion commander!" Zhao Jingping took a form and reported it to me: "The results of the preliminary statistics are ...... There are more than 2,000 AK74s, more than 200 RPK light machine guns, and 100 heavy machine guns...... Small arms are basically complete! ”

"Hmm!" I nodded, there are basically no technical problems with light weapons, for example, we have seized a lot of AK74s and RPKs from the Vietnamese devils...... Even our Chinese army is equipped with these weapons, so the Soviet army is happy to keep its promises. But maybe it's not the same with tanks and the like......

Sure enough, then Zhao Jingping said: "Tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, and the like will destroy Yan zhòng...... Although there are quite a few of them, there are more than a dozen T72s. There are more than thirty units of the T62. There are more than 200 infantry combat vehicles and armored vehicles...... But it's been torn down to the ground. Especially the T72, many of which cannot be dismantled have been smashed...... It's just that it can be opened! ”

"Hmm!" I nodded and said, "You can arrange it, and if you have the opportunity, you can transport a few T72s and infantry fighting vehicles back...... Do you understand? ”

"Yes!" Zhao Jingping stepped forward.

In fact, I don't need to explain these things, and the scheming Zhao Jingping is afraid that he has already had this plan...... The T62 is no longer attractive to us now, because we captured one as early as the Sino-Soviet Zhenbao Island battle, but because our country was in ten years at that time (the Sino-Soviet Zhenbao Island Battle took place in 1969), so the imitation of the T62 has not made much progress. It is precisely because of this that the Type 69 tank has been dragged to this day and has not been equipped with troops......

However, if the Type 69 tank is still being developed in the same way as the T62, I am afraid that it will already lag behind before it is developed, so the Type 69 must be overhauled...... As for how to change the method, this T72 is undoubtedly a good template.

This is why it is not clear which Soviet tank the Type 69 tank of our army copied from the Soviet Union...... Because it was developed based on the T62 but combined with the technology of several other tanks.

It's just that what I didn't expect was ...... It is not difficult to capture this tank, but it is not easy to give it away...... The reason is that our transport and supply lines are all mountain roads, and of course it is impossible for tanks to run on mountain roads.

But if the tank goes to the road...... It was basically impossible to escape the reconnaissance of the Soviet army...... That's too obvious, there are a few tanks on the road...... It hardly takes any reconnaissance to find out.

Later, after thinking about it, I couldn't help it, so I just had a ruthless heart...... Oh yes! Let's drive them down the road. And it was still in the daytime, to see if the Soviet army had any way to tell the difference!

Of course. That's what you say...... When we actually drove onto the road, we still put a lot of thought into it and did enough work.

The first is that we trained a group of Afghan guerrillas to learn to drive tanks...... We have disguised these tanks as Afghan government forces, and the mistrust, inconvenient communication, and mismanagement between the Soviets and the Afghan government forces will always be a loophole that we can exploit unless the Soviets resolve the contradictions between them and the government forces.

Secondly, we have done enough intelligence work...... We still have an advantage in this, after all, this is Afghanistan...... The Soviet army was an invader, and it can be said that the vast majority of the people and even the Afghan government army did not support the Soviet army, so it was easy for us to do this intelligence work...... Develop a few valuable insiders in a few cities such as Kabul or Kandahar, for example, a person who works in a government department has the opportunity to come into contact with some civilian personnel, such as well-informed underworld people.

This also includes brothels...... The Soviets are also quite open in this regard, and they don't know when they will die on this battlefield...... This makes those who serve in the military become regular customers in brothels.

Sex work is strictly forbidden in Afghanistan, but brothels still exist in a dark corner despite the war......

This gives us a good source of information...... When Soviet GIs entered these places, they often thought that other people could not understand what they were saying, so they were very comfortable talking about various military secrets...... All we have to do is arrange for an Afghan who can understand Russian to do chores in it, and just listen carefully!

The information thus obtained is not only comprehensive, but also generally credible...... At least it is much more credible than the information we get from the Afghan government forces, because the Soviets often use false information to the government forces to confuse us.

So we know...... At what time of the morning on a certain day, a dozen tanks of a certain number would go to the border on a certain road to support the Soviet troops guarding there.

Then there's the issue of synergy......

We sent a guerrilla team to plant mines or something in the upper reaches of the road, and then we had a suitable interdiction to delay the reinforcement of the tank battalion, in which we also used signal jamming equipment...... The equipment was brought in from Pakistan in order to prevent the attacked tank battalion from reporting information to their superiors and other units in a timely manner.

At this time, more than a dozen tanks of our army went on the road...... Because he had a good grasp of the time and the text, and the route and password were completely correct, he drove all the way to the border unimpeded......

Of course, there will be some troubles when you are at the border...... It was impossible for the Soviet border guards to just let us drive the tanks to Pakistan right under their noses.

But it's not a big deal...... All it takes is a guerrilla force to carry out the attack...... At that time, the Soviet army simply did not have the extra energy to care where the tanks were going. (To be continued......)
