Chapter Eighty-Nine: Training
The first thing I did after the war was training.
One of the reasons why we are in such a hurry to train is because we have just won the battle...... Hassan and Aduzai wondered why they were in a hurry to train after winning the battle. The day after the war began, and the soldiers didn't even have time to celebrate. Not to mention...... The warriors have just achieved such a big victory, and it is time for them to rest!
But what they don't know is...... The reason why I'm in such a hurry to train is precisely because I won the battle.
We've been through too much of this kind of thing in the second company...... On the battlefield in Vietnam, I won more with less time and again, except for a few small setbacks such as being attacked by Vietnamese agents and suffered losses, almost all of the others were victories, and I can even say that I was one of them, so I know very well what the mentality of the soldiers is after the victory......
"We finally defeated the enemy, we are now heroes, now we can enjoy the next one!"
"Those who haven't been to the battlefield...... Do you know that your current life is all exchanged for Lao Tzu's life on the battlefield? So it's time for you to make it up to me! ”
"Lao Tzu almost didn't give up his life on the battlefield, and I can't tell when I will go to the battlefield next time...... Take advantage of the victory and rest to enjoy it! ”
……
As a result, all kinds of arrogance and discipline problems arose...... Even more problematic is that these disciplinary issues are often not managed.
Because they are indeed excusable...... Just like the "war energy" that we have in China, Lao Tzu is desperate with the Yue devils on the battlefield, so what's wrong with coming back to take the bus? What's wrong with watching a few movies?
Therefore, the superiors can only turn a blind eye to these things...... Many of those were indeed heroes who came down from the battlefield. It's a bit unreasonable to punish them for this...... This is actually a kind of indulgence in disguise. As a result, "war energy" soon began to spread throughout the country!
Because of this lesson. That's why I don't dare to relax in this part of Afghanistan...... Because I know very well that the Afghan guerrillas are inherently a loosely disciplined force, and they can even be said to be unbound by national laws and military regulations...... It is true that there are laws of the country, but both the country and the government are occupied by the Soviet army, so the laws become a dead letter and have no effect on the partisans. Mil-spec bar...... If there is, there is, and there are, and the reputable elders of various ethnic groups use some unwritten verbal rules to be considered military regulations, but the military regulations of each ethnic group are different...... There are even guerrillas who prescribe it. If you see other guerrilla arsenals on the battlefield, you should occupy or destroy them as much as possible.
It is precisely because of this that the guerrillas often fight each other...... Very often, the guerrillas fought between them over turf and munitions.
Of course, this phenomenon is rarely seen in Hassan's troops...... Needless to say, the reason for this is that I have made it a rule that if I want to join us, you must obey Hassan's command.
But here's the problem...... During this time, our guerrillas expanded rapidly, and in just a few months, Hassan's guerrillas grew from a few hundred to thousands...... This process is not bad, because we have several hundred Chinese soldiers, and at that time, we could effectively train and monitor more than 1,000 people, so there has been no chaos all along.
However, before and after entering the Higio Valley...... But the number suddenly swelled to 3 or 4,000...... As a result, several forces emerged within the guerrillas, the two largest of which were the original faction of the Hijeo Valley led by Aduzai and the foreign guerrilla faction represented by Hassan. Others include Tajiks, Hazaras...... And so on for a dozen or so families whose names I can't even remember.
There are hundreds of these tribes, and there are only a dozen of them...... This can't help but make me secretly admire the Afghan guerrillas. Even if there are only a dozen of them, they can form a force and not blend in with the other guerrillas, so I really believe what Pesur said at this time...... The Afghans are not united, but too united, and even if they join the guerrillas at different times or even completely strangers to each other, they have the means to quickly form a small group.
It is precisely because of this that there are inevitably many problems of one kind or another within the guerrillas...... As the instructor put it, among the partisans there were "no big problems, but there were constant small problems".
But I think ...... These problems within the guerrillas are not just small problems, in fact there are already big problems, that is, the various internal forces have not been integrated and unable to exert the power of unity. It's just that the problem hasn't come out yet.
As for why there was no outbreak...... I think that is because we have won many battles against the Soviet army, and under this premise, all the forces see benefits: they can survive, they can fight the invaders, and they can strengthen their own power...... Because of this common interest, they are temporarily linked.
But......
There is no doubt about it...... Such an army can only win battles, but cannot defeat them.
The reason is simple, since what unites them is victory...... Once this factor is gone, that is to say, if we lose the battle or even simply because of the unfavorable shape on the battlefield, these forces will soon fall apart.
I can't imagine the consequences...... When that happens, what will be left of our Hijeo Valley? Maybe only our Chinese soldiers and some of Hassan's guerrillas will defend here, and the other guerrillas don't know where to go in the mountains!
It is precisely because I think of these terrible consequences that I will try to control the various forces after the war, so as not to let the "war energy" in their hearts spread and grow.
Because I know very well...... Once these "war energies" break out, it is very likely that they will trigger the fuse of contradictions within the guerrillas.
What is the means of controlling "war energy"?
It's the whole training...... And it's a high-intensity training!
Those guerrillas who had just won the battle and were arrogant and thought that they were great and could do a good job in front of the people were dragged to the mountains for training......
For this qiē, we are too experienced in the second company...... The second company is a special agent company, what kind of high-intensity training has not been experienced...... Five-kilometer cross-country (five-kilometer cross-country is no joke in the mountains and hot climate of Afghanistan, it can kill you if you get dehydrated at every turn), rock climbing, trench construction, squad tactics, etc.
practiced during the day and at night, and they were so tired that they couldn't even breathe a few breaths, and the sense of superiority in their hearts was gone. That's when they understood...... Although they have won battles before, it does not mean that they are gods, they can do whatever they want, they still have to crawl and roll in the mountains, they still have to obey orders, and they are still ordinary and small warriors!
Of course, I still don't have command over them...... Listen to my orders or not, whatever they want, my killer weapon is ...... It's okay not to obey my orders, but please leave my troops, leave the valley of Shigio, and don't take help from our training!
So it's obvious...... Although I have repeatedly stressed that we are only military advisers and have no command over the guerrillas, in reality the guerrillas are completely under our control...... You can get out of this unit without listening to my orders!
Of course, this kind of thing can be known to our Chinese soldiers, Chinese pay attention to the golden mean, some things are better to be vague, and you don't have to say everything too clearly!
Another reason why I'm in a hurry to train ...... It was because the battle exposed too many problems with the guerrillas, such as the guerrillas' control of mortars, anti-aircraft machine guns and anti-aircraft guns, and the confusion of some guerrillas in the battle......
This is actually a headache for me...... Don't look at the fact that there are more than 4,000 of our guerrillas in the fighting, but in fact some of the guerrillas are completely outside of our control...... They are nominally our guerrillas of Shijieo, but they are just people who survive here, and the whole battle is fought by themselves, and our command has no idea where they are or what they are doing after this battle.
Of course, this is also partly due to the fact that we don't have a lot of communications equipment and Chinese soldiers to serve as their military advisers...... In fact, we can't do that, on the one hand, because there are too many forces in Afghanistan, and we can't do everything, such as ...... A force of only a dozen people, can we arrange a radio station plus two military advisers for them? On the other hand, there is the language barrier...... If you don't understand the language, it's hard to execute the order...... While it is true that sometimes our military advisers have used gestures to make the Afghan guerrillas understand what we mean, they can simply refuse to obey under the pretext that they do not understand.
As a result, we were able to control no more than 2,000 troops on the battlefield, and a considerable part of them were controlled by Hassan and Aduzai. That's why I always felt underwhelmed when I was fighting the Soviets...... A large part of the reason why we were able to defeat the Soviet army before was due to luck and the efforts and coordination of the Chinese soldiers.
So training is a must...... And there is no time to wait, especially the last time you fought...... Many of the guerrilla mortars were calculated in advance by Chinese soldiers and made the guerrillas memorize by rote.
As you can imagine...... It's okay to fight one battle or two battles like this, or if you only fight in the Shigio Valley, you can make it up, and once you pull the troops out to fight in a different environment...... Then the mortars of our army can basically be said to be useless. (To be continued......)
