The place at the top of the hill is the same as when we fought with the Yue devils...... This part is like a blade, not only is the area small, but the shell can't hit a little higher or lower, and if it doesn't work, it will be slightly withdrawn in the direction of the anticline...... Tank guns, anti-aircraft machine guns, and other direct fire in the diagonal plane were all ineffective.

Therefore, for a high ground, the most important place to defend is the hilltop position.

We had already considered this in advance, so as soon as the battle began, we used mortars to shoot a fire belt with incendiary bombs close to the hilltop position, the purpose of which was to prevent the Vietnamese troops from retreating to the hilltop position and occupy a dangerous position.

But the helpless thing is that the number of mortars in our army is too small, and the total number of mortars in the front and rear is only seventeen, and this is the result of strengthening five mortars from the military headquarters.

Seventeen mortars are not a lot, but while cooperating with the infantry to bombard the Vietnamese stronghold, it is still a little powerless to blow up a wall of fire in front of the hilltop position to block the retreat of the Vietnamese army...... In addition, it was dark at this time, and the Vietnamese army was familiar with the terrain, so it was not difficult to touch the position on the top of the mountain......

Of course, there is a more important reason for this: the Vietnamese army, even the militia of the public security tun, has grown up in the war, and it also has a certain combat experience and military quality...... If this battle had been left to an ordinary militiaman, and it had lost the command of the regimental headquarters and the gap between the enemy's and our firepower was so large, I am afraid that it would have collapsed long ago.

However, the militia of the Vietnamese army's public security camp not only did not collapse, but was able to organize those stragglers who had been beaten to pieces by our army, and pulled them to the top of the hill to resist stubbornly.

This was a bit of a surprise to me...... In fact, it can't be said to be an accident, because in the previous battles, I also had the experience of fighting with the militia of the Vietnamese army's public security tun several times. I know that their combat effectiveness is actually no worse than that of our regular army. Some even surpass our army...... The regular army of our army is not training a lot of the time. It's farming, which is actually the level of the militia.

The only disadvantage of the Vietnamese militia compared to the regular army is that the weapons are not uniform...... This is definitely a flaw, the main reason is that Vietnam's weapons and equipment are too complicated, there are American-style equipment, Soviet-style equipment, and even Japanese-style equipment and French-style equipment left over from World War II...... In addition, because the Vietnamese army's advanced weapons are given priority to equipping the regular army, the weapons of the public security tun can only pick up the tatters replaced by the regular army...... As a result, the weapons of the public security tun are varied, and this affects its combat effectiveness to a certain extent.

So from the very beginning, I didn't underestimate this public security unit, but I still didn't expect them to be able to organize a defense quickly in this situation.

I found out later...... This is actually not the credit of the public security tun. However, in order to make the militia of the public security regiment more cooperative with the defense of other Vietnamese troops in the Banwang area, the Fifth Infantry Regiment transferred more than a dozen veterans from the Fifth Infantry Regiment to serve as the backbone of these two militia companies...... In other words, it is not the militia that is now commanding on the 518.6 heights, but the backbones.

And so the trouble arose...... The direct fire of our troops quickly lost its effectiveness, and the role of artillery became very limited...... This artillery includes long-range artillery and mortars, although long-range artillery can hit the other side...... However, the Vietnamese army is located on the top of the hill at the blade, and once the long-range artillery hits high, it will cross the 518.6 heights and hit our own people.

Mortar bar...... Although there is no problem with long-range artillery, the problem is that the area of the hilltop position is too small, and if a batch of shells is fired, not necessarily a single shot will fall on the hilltop position. We also have a very limited supply of ammunition, and we may have to face other battles in the future. So that's by no means something we can afford.

It is true that only the second company is more suitable for this task...... Mountain battles, a company that is completely inexperienced. However, the second company has had many confrontations with the regular army of the Vietnamese army, including the 316A division of the Vietnamese army.

The various units were quickly prepared under my command, and the attack soon began as soon as I gave the order.

However, the attack was not as usual, with a burst of artillery fire prepared and then the infantry charging at the target under the cover of fire...... I knew that these things were not a big threat to the Vietnamese troops at the top of the hill, so of course I wouldn't waste time and shells like this.

Mortars were still fired, but they were fired with smoke bombs, and these smoke bombs still hit our army's positions, and there were a few near the Vietnamese army's hilltop positions, but the number was not much. As a result, soon layers of white smoke like a thick fog rose from the positions of our troops.

This made the Vietnamese army a little strange...... This is at night, and when the smoke bombs are struck, you can't see anything and become blind? How can you charge when you become blind?

But soon the Vietnamese devils stationed at the top of the hill understood what was going on, because the next mortar fired was a dozen flares...... These flares hit the sky above the hilltop position almost at the same time, and the strong light instantly stimulated the Yue devils to the point that they couldn't open their eyes...... However, Scar's troops were prepared, so they took advantage of this moment to shoot rows and rows of bullets at the Vietnamese army and launched a charge...... What made the Vietnamese army even more helpless was that when they raised their guns to shoot at the Chinese army, they found that under the interaction of flares and smoke bombs, it had actually become a state in which the Vietnamese army was in the dark in the open and the People's Liberation Army.

At the same time, a company of troops that were on cover duty also hid in the smoke and fired anti-tank missiles at the Vietnamese positions...... After all, the anti-tank missile is a missile that can be controlled, so although it is still capable of dealing with moving targets, its accuracy against stationary targets is still quite high, so it is just right to use it to attack the hilltop position.

What's more, the targets of these anti-tank missiles are not Vietnamese troops...... It seems wasteful to use missiles to kill and wound infantry, and they target fortifications that the Vietnamese have erected on hilltop positions, such as machine-gun emplacements stacked with sandbags, tree stumps used as bunkers, or boulders on hilltop positions......

In particular, the boulder is located on the top of the mountain...... It's rare to blow up these things if you blow them up with artillery, but they're a very obvious target for anti-tank missiles.

In fact, these boulders are not very important military bunkers, and the reason for using anti-tank to fight them...... Once the anti-tank missile hits those boulders, it means that the explosion will kick off a large cloud of debris flying everywhere......

Originally, the more devils still expected to use it as a cover, but they didn't expect to be hit by us as a shrapnel generator, and because the volume of the boulder itself is not small, it is not over after a few shots, and the more devils can't move away for a while, so they have to bear the pieces of rubble flying on their heads helplessly...... They must have regretted it when they were screaming, why didn't they know to remove this thing first.

Then the soldiers of the second company charged again...... Soon under the cover of anti-tank missiles, smoke and bullets, they rushed to the top of the hill...... Having said that, the bunkers of the Vietnamese army in our direction were originally improvised and were now bombed by anti-tank missiles, and there was no way to organize effective resistance, so the fighters quickly rushed into the range of grenades......

Don't think about the rest of the matter...... After a grenade exploded, the soldiers of the second company rushed to the top of the hill and quickly beat the Vietnamese militia who were fighting the trapped beasts into a sieve!

Among them, there were some Vietnamese troops who reacted quickly...... Taking advantage of the fact that our army has not yet rushed up, we will continue to retreat to the anticline...... This is the right thing to do, and there are also anticline tactics on the anticline, just as we used to build fortifications on the anticline and fight with the enemy with more firepower.

But alas...... The heights in this area were all in the direction of Vietnam, which was gentle, and the direction of China was steeper, and when they retreated, they all retreated to the direction of China, which was steeper and full of stones......

The terrain is indeed a bit strange, and it would be a coincidence if it was just one or two highlands, but almost all the large and small highlands in this area are like this...... Thinking about it later, this should be nature's liliang...... The wind in this area is basically blowing from China to Vietnam, as the so-called dripping water through the stones, this wind blows and blows for thousands of years, so the dust on the side of the high ground towards China is either weathered or blown away, leaving only piles of bare stones.
