Chapter Ninety-Five: Attack

"Let's go!" As soon as I gave the order, the ten helicopters slowly rose into the air with the sound of "whirring" propellers, and then leaned forward slightly and flew in the direction of Mount Faka......

Almost at the same time...... Bursts of artillery soon rang out, and the sky was littered with shells and rockets, like a meteor shower...... It was the first time I had seen the intensity of our army's artillery preparations on a flying helicopter, and I was sometimes a little worried...... What if some of these shells hit our helicopter by accident?!

It's not impossible...... As the old man once said...... He encountered an incident during the era of resisting US aggression and aiding Korea, when a US fighter plane swooped down towards our troops and was about to drop bombs, it was suddenly blown up by an artillery shell and disintegrated in the air...... The soldiers of the Volunteer Army were puzzled by this phenomenon, knowing that there was no anti-aircraft fire of our army near this place...... How could there be a shell that knocked down the plane!

Later, I thought about it...... I think there is only one possibility, that is, our army's artillery fire is too intensive, in a completely accidental situation...... The howitzer, which was supposed to hit the ground, hit the fighter jet flying directly into the air...... So there was the scene from before!

And now we seem to be facing this situation, and our army's artillery fire is much more intensive now than it was during the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea...... But it's funny to think about it, if you're worried about that...... In this dangerous battlefield, it can be said that there is nothing to worry about!

Zheng Liangqiang and other pilots controlled the speed of the helicopter quite well...... At the time of our flight to Mount Faka, our bombardment near Mount Faka had just stopped......

Of course, this is what we have planned early on...... Helicopters were to fight around Mount Faka, so they were naturally not suitable for bombing...... You must know that this Faka Mountain is more than 500 meters high, and this cannonball went up and hit it at an altitude of more than 500 meters...... No one knows how far the shrapnel will fly when it explodes!

If it's one or two shells, that's fine...... As soon as the shells were dense, there were naturally more shrapnel and rubble that exploded. At that time, if our helicopters were to get closer to this area. I'm afraid that I will be shot down by my own shrapnel.

But that doesn't mean our bombing stops...... In fact, this is just the beginning......

On the one hand, the Vietnamese artillery fire had already begun to return fire at this time...... But you can imagine. The Vietnamese army's counterattack not only did not have any effect, but was a suicidal act......

Artillery warfare is such a thing, and the more artillery there is, will naturally take advantage...... For example, we are now bombarding Mount Fakka with only one artillery regiment plus mortars and recoilless guns of the front-line troops, while the other two artillery regiments are prepared in the dark......

If the artillery of the Vietnamese army does not move, then we will not move either...... Just use an artillery regiment to happily bombard the Vietnamese position.

If the artillery of the Vietnamese army starts firing...... The two artillery regiments, which had already been prepared, began to exert their might, and immediately covered the Vietnamese artillery positions with pieces of shells...... Just like now, it seems that the Vietnamese artillery has just begun to fire...... In the direction of our army, the shells were overwhelming. In a few strokes, the Vietnamese artillery fire was silent!

On the other hand, the artillery in charge of Mount Faka has also extended its artillery fire to the rear of Mount Faka according to the plan......

Ostensibly, this was to cut off the transport and reinforcement routes of the Vietnamese army at Pha Ka Mountain, but in reality...... The real purpose is to create smoke so that our helicopters can operate according to the plan.

To disguise our true purpose, of course...... Instead of rushing to the back of Mount Faka as soon as they came up, our helicopters put on the appearance of attacking Mount Faka from the front, and as soon as they came up, they fired rows of rockets from the No. 4 and No. 5 positions on both flanks of Mount Faka......

The rockets are almost endless, because we have divided the helicopters into two batches...... Each batch of ten, when this group of helicopters flew to Mount Fakka for operations, another group of helicopters was on standby at the base.

When the first helicopters are running out of ammunition. At this time, another group of helicopters loaded with ammunition arrived...... To put it simply, two groups of helicopters took turns to fight, and the ammunition was just finished and returned to load...... So we didn't even think about leaving some ammunition to retreat or something. Anyway, this ammunition has ......

The reason why there was so much ammunition was because the request of the higher authorities was to complete the task of taking Mount Faka within 200 casualties...... The superiors also knew very well that the strategic goal of this time was to rebuild the people's confidence in the army, and the casualties of this person would be visible to the people, as for how much ammunition was lost...... Where would the people care so much!

So, if you want to have fewer casualties...... This ammunition must be abundant, so three bases of ammunition were delivered in the direction of Mount Faka, and our helicopter unit prepared six bases of ammunition...... There are few helicopters and a small bomb load, and our ammunition of six bases may not be as much as that of one base of ammunition for an artillery regiment!

So our rockets and anti-aircraft machine guns were fired at the Vietnamese positions in rows...... It was only dark and full of gunsmoke, and even if it was a flare, it was difficult to find where the No. 4 and No. 5 heights of the Vietnamese army were!

At this time, the infantry also moved......

This infantry was the second battalion that was trained with us, and in fact they were already in action long before the artillery was ready...... This is the practice of our army, and in order to gain more time for the charge, our infantry always begins to secretly demine before the artillery is ready.

There are many ways to clear mines, such as using blasting canisters, mine detectors and even artillery fire...... But the most difficult is the secret demining...... Because it can't use any tools, and it can't have a single demining failure, otherwise it will alarm the Vietnamese army and expose the actions of our army!

But the second battalion did a good job of this...... Because we need to coordinate with the 2nd Battalion at this time, basically all battlefield information will be reported to us by a communicator.

So I clearly understood the situation of the second battalion...... They sent two squads of mine-sweeping teams to grope for positions No. 4 and No. 5 respectively...... While groping and demining, it took more than an hour to complete the task.

I, who have also done this job, of course, know that this task is really not easy...... You must know that this is a black demining under the nose of the enemy, if we don't have two demining masters in the synthetic battalion, Chen Yiyi and Chen Qiaoqiao...... We weren't much sure we would be able to do it.

The good news, however...... The fighters of the 2nd battalion still did it!

This is not to our credit, I think it has something to do with the fact that the 2nd Battalion is familiar with the terrain of Mount Fakka and has been prepared for it. (To be continued......)
