Chapter 5: The Cruel Beast
Glenn remembers the taste well,
He had smelled it on the carcasses of wild boars left behind by monsters in the woods.
Gran speculated from the phases of the moon that several days had passed since the beginning of evolution.
After all this time, the skeleton should have been left with bones, which means that it was a new corpse.
The source of the taste was some distance away from him, and he considered whether to go to the scene to see what was going on.
There may be dangers, but if you can find more information about monsters, it's worth it.
Gran eventually decides to find the source of the smell of flesh.
He walked cautiously through the woods, keeping an eye on his surroundings and keeping an eye out for suitable escape routes in case of emergencies.
The smell of flesh in the air grew stronger, and Gran could clearly discern the smell of decay.
It took him some time to finally find the source of the taste.
It appeared to be the remains of two deer, one large and one small.
The carcass of the deer lay on the ground, its head flattened, its belly open, and its internal organs already rotting.
The neck and body of the fawn were brutally torn apart, and its head hung from a nearby branch.
The eyes were desperate, and blood flowed down the branches.
The body was left on the ground, and most of it was trampled into flesh.
Next to the meat puree were the footprints that Glenn had seen twice.
This horrific sight must have been the work of the monster.
The two corpses bore many similarities to the boar remains, and Gran noticed that neither of them had been eaten by the monsters.
In general, carnivores will first devour their prey's organs, which are highly nutritious and perishable.
The internal organs of these corpses are relatively intact, indicating that the monster did not kill them to fill their stomachs.
But for what? Because these animals have encroached on its territory?
Or is it... Just to satisfy the monster's own desire to kill.
The former unnerved Gran, who knows if he had violated the monster's territory now.
If it was the latter, Gran wouldn't have to worry about the former, but he still felt uncomfortable.
Carnivores rarely kill indiscriminately, and generally do not kill other animals as long as they satisfy their appetite.
If it's the latter, then it's a brutal monster.
Gran felt a chill run through his body, and the monster must have mercilessly made himself as miserable as the two deer.
He even suspected that the monster had left these corpses to seduce other predators to eat them, and then slowly make some of them, otherwise how could this forest be so rare for large animals.
Maybe this monster is smart enough to hide poison in the corpses, and the greedy ones will be poisoned to death after a bite.
The monster will be able to eliminate its competitors, and perhaps the monster will be immune to toxins so that it can enjoy more food.
Thinking of this, he suddenly didn't want to approach the two corpses at all, and turned to leave.
I can't help but question my optimistic self before finding the source of the smell.
Is this forest really safe?
Glenn prayed that he would never touch the monster in search of food, and he was not yet free from his evolved hunger.
Another bird was at his poisonous hand, but it still could not fill him.
Approaching early in the morning,
Gran saw a small pterosaur parked in the tree.
This pterosaur seems to be a little familiar, like the one I saw after picking up the bird's eggs last time, when this guy was still grabbing food with an adult pterosaur, and he was very arrogant.
Like the one that pecked at the lizard before, maybe they were the same little pterosaur.
Looking closely at the size of the pterosaur, Gran felt that he could handle the little pterosaur.
Before he evolved, he was only half a wing long as a small pterosaur, but now that he has evolved, he is bigger than the entire little pterosaur, and he is protected by tough scales.
Hunger urged Gran to strike at the little pterodactyl.
After thinking about it, Glenn decided to start by preying on birds.
Quietly climbing up the tree, slowly approaching it, intending to bite its throat open.
The little pterosaur was alert, and when Gran approached, it flew away from the branches, and Gran's first plan failed.
So he adopted the second plan he conceived,
Gran turned away, showing his back to the little pterosaur and quickly crawled to the ground.
He felt that with the greedy character of the little pterodactyl, he would definitely come to take revenge.
Sure enough, the little pterosaur flew over and pecked Gran with its sharp beak.
This can directly peck the pre-evolution gran to death, but can only leave a few traces on the evolved tough scales.
But Gran pretended to be stunned and crawled to another place, making the little pterosaur think that the attack had worked and that he was going to run away.
The little pterosaur was triumphant and continued to pursue Gran with its claws.
The distance was close for a while, allowing Gran to seize the opportunity.
Turn around and bite its claws and use brute force to drag the little pterosaur to the ground.
If the little pterosaur was smarter, there would be nothing he could do about it if he only attacked Gran with his beak.
Hauling it to the ground now is a big advantage for Gran.
Only then did the little pterosaur remember to run away, and frantically attacked Gran with its wings and beak, and finally rubbed off some of its scales.
But Gran held on to it, and he didn't want to waste his efforts.
He struggled to grab the little pterosaur's legs with his claws, and took the opportunity to remove his mouth and bite the little pterodactyl's wings.
Snap the bones of its wings with its sword-like fangs so that it has no chance of escaping.
Then Gran nibbled at the pterodactyl's neck.
The little pterosaur began to fight for its life, leaving blood marks on Gran's head.
Gran still didn't let go, and bit the throat of the little pterosaur fiercely.
Eventually, Gran bites open its throat and takes its life.
Afterwards, Gran estimated that his bite force could be 20 kilograms, which was considered strong among lizards, and he could easily cut through flesh with sharp teeth.
After the little pterosaur couldn't move, Gran bit off its neck to prevent the pterosaur from playing dead.
"Greedy and careless, it ended up in my mouth."
Gran looked at the little pterosaur corpse in front of him a little tiredly, but fortunately he didn't use the third plan.
This was the first time he had been wounded in battle in the Atlas, unlike the previous one-sided predation of birds and insects.
Gran lamented that he was still careless.
The little pterodactyl's attack was stronger than expected, and if he knew its true ability, Gran would definitely give up preying on the little pterodactyl and would not take any risks.
But anyway, this time it was his victory.
The meal was his.
At this time, the sunrise was ushered in, and he spent a day in the other world safely,
.
early morning
Perhaps because of the dragon's blood in his body, the wounds on Gran's body healed quickly.
On the way to feed, Glenn stumbled back to the lake where he had rested the other day.
Except for a few bird feathers floating on the water, it looks exactly the same as before.
The water reflects the current appearance of Gran,
His head was smeared with dirt and a little blood, and it looked slightly hideous, and there were two small bumps growing from the back, which were his horns.
The pupils were still a beautiful dark blue, and Glenn had always found this color very special.
It's already a bit of a dragon, but it doesn't have a sense of power that is deeply rooted in people's hearts.
It's a big lizard.
Glenn could still find the burrow he had dug in the bushes, and now he couldn't get into it.
There was no way to dig a crypt to hide, and he had to think of some other way to avoid danger.
Yesterday he rested by hiding in a tree, but there was no way to hide his body, and a more effective way was needed.
Gran tried to think of a new solution, but strange voices kept coming out of his head to stop him from thinking quietly.
Looking around, there was no other creature moving, and the sound came from nowhere.
Could it be an auditory hallucinations caused by being too hungry?
The strange sound chattered like a mosquito, which made Gran very irritable.
I can't stand it anymore,
Gran unconsciously let out a peculiar cry.
There was a slight sense of majesty and cruelty in this string of voices, sweeping away the voices in his head.
The fish and shrimp in the lake were frightened, and they made the lake ripple and scatter Wren's reflection.
Gran knew what the string of sounds were—dragon language, which was the language of the dragon clan.
The dragon voice did not disappear quickly, but echoed in the forest for a long time, as if there was some power mixed in it.
.
A giant orange eye suddenly opened.
There was madness and ferocity flowing through the jumbling, and a monster woke up.
