Chapter 173: Bullets
So the training of snipers soon entered a special stage...... Compute.
For this subject...... I and my staff officers are all too familiar with each other, because I have been trained in observing the coordinates of the first and second companies before, and now I have just changed the way of calculation.
However, strictly speaking, the calculation requirements of the sniper company are higher than that of the first and second companies...... The reason is simple, the fighters of the sniper company must be able to calculate not only the coordinates of the artillery, but also the calculation of the offset in the sniper.
In particular, the calculation of offsets...... This thing seems to have a very simple formula: offset = target velocity * warhead flight time * sine value of the target direction of motion and horizontal angle.
But if you look closely, you will find that several variables in this formula are estimated and not accurate.
For example, the speed of the target's movement...... The speed of each enemy's movement is slow and fast, and no one dares to guarantee that the Vietnamese soldiers will travel at a speed of 1.5 meters per second, and the leaping speed will be 3 meters.
Another example is the flight time of the warhead...... First of all, the target distance is estimated, and then the new and old of each gun are different, the mass of the warhead is not the same, so the speed is not the same, and the flight time of the warhead is of course an estimate.
Zuihou also has a sine value for the direction of motion of the target...... This is even more of an estimate, because you can't have the time and opportunity to measure the angle of the enemy's direction of movement with any instrument.
So one thing is certain...... All three variables are estimates, and there are errors in all of them, so there must be a greater error in the offset calculated by Zuihou.
What's even more devastating is ...... This is without adding the influence of wind direction and wind force. If you add wind and direction...... This would have to add or subtract an estimate.
That's when I realized that I had to be a sniper. It's really much harder than being an artillery observer.
Our training method is ...... Let the fighters count over and over again. And then over and over again.
The beginning is to play simple. For example, when there is no wind, hit a half-body target that moves horizontally or vertically in a straight line and at a constant speed, and then hit a target that moves diagonally in a straight line after it is cooked, and then hit a target that moves in a curved direction...... Zuihou plus the wind, the wind direction, and the distance of this target is also increasing......
That's when I learned that some people in weishenme would say that sharpshooters were fed with bullets...... Through calculations and shots again and again, the fighters gradually form a conditioned reflex...... As soon as you see the trajectory of the target, you can quickly calculate an offset with a small error according to various situations, and then hit it.
But I don't think there's anything wrong with that...... Sharpshooters are fed bullets, yes, but if they are fed in the wrong way. No matter how much bullets you feed, you can't become a good sharpshooter.
There will be errors in the offset, which is unavoidable, and this is determined by the fact that every factor that calculates the offset is an estimate. As mentioned before, there are many factors that cause this error, and some of them are uncontrollable...... For example, to estimate the speed and distance of the target, each sniper will have his own experience and judgment, and this error can only depend on the soldiers' own cultivation.
But some errors can be controlled, and two of the most important factors are guns and bullets.
The reason for the error is that each gun is different, for example, a certain part of the gun is slightly looser, and for example, because the rifling is smoothed out for a long time...... These can cause some slight differences in the direction of the bullet or the speed at which it rotates. This question requires each sniper to have a good understanding of the rifle in his or her own hands.
The bullet factor is especially important...... Because from a physical point of view, to hit the target is to make the flying bullet run at the same time as the target to one point. It was the warhead that flew. It is also the warhead that is going to hit the target...... So, even if everything is calculated correctly and the gun is a perfect gun, if the bullet is faulty, it will not hit the target.
There are many factors that will affect the flight of a bullet, such as the amount of charge, whether the warhead is uniform, whether the warhead has air bubbles, whether there are burrs, and so on...... These factors will affect the speed and attitude of the warhead, and even the direction of flight.
This is the reason why the bullets used in the Weishenme sniper rifle are all special bullets...... In fact, there is no difference between the special bullet and the ordinary bullet in structure, but the warhead and charge have strict accuracy, and the production materials and processes are also stricter and more refined, so as to achieve the purpose of minimizing the shooting error.
But we're pretty tragic...... Although we have copied sniper rifles, we do not have special bullets for sniper rifles like the Soviet Union, and we still use machine gun bullets for ordinary troops......
Machine gun bullets, as soon as they are shot, they are piece-by-piece, and most of the time they are used to kill and injure a large number of enemies or suppress them with firepower, so there are no requirements for bullets at all, so all kinds of uneven burrs are not suitable for sniper rifles at all.
This situation even makes training very difficult...... Suppose a sniper is trained to estimate all aspects accurately, such as distance, wind, etc., and based on this accurate estimate, he correctly and quickly calculates the offset and fires a perfect shot...... But it misses the target, and the reason for the miss is that the bullet is not good, but the sniper doesn't know this, so he thinks...... Is the calculation just wrong? Is it a little less estimated that the wind is blowing? Or maybe the distance is wrong?
Thereupon...... The error of the bullet causes the sniper to think in the wrong direction and make even more wrong judgments.
The solution to this problem is to screen bullets.
The first is to put a whole bunch of machine-gun bullets...... In this era, the quality or technological content of things in our country is not as good as others, but the quantity will still be so much that it will frighten people to death, so the number of machine gun bullets is naturally not a problem.
Then it is to pick out some of these bullets that are more uniform, smooth, and without burrs, and Zuihou puts these bullets on the scale and weighs them...... The reason why the balance is used is that the electronic scale is still difficult to find at this time, and it is almost enough to filter out a batch of bullets that are too small or too large.
The low mass is often due to the presence of air bubbles in the warhead or insufficient charge, and the high mass is most likely due to the excessive charge...... Of course, there is also a possibility that there is too much charge and bubbles here, and the quality of Zuihou after equilibrium is also up to standard, but such a situation is a minority after all, and it is also beyond our control.
This method came to mind...... That's because I suddenly recalled that when I watched TV and movies in modern times, there were often shots of the killer weighing the bullet before setting off...... At the time, I didn't even think that this was weishenme, and I didn't understand until now that it was also to reduce errors.
Therefore, the soldiers have a task that must be completed before shooting training every time, that is, squatting in front of a pile of bullets and picking up bullets and weighing bullets like children pretending to be at home......
Company Commander Luo has a lot of complaints about this, according to his words, it is: "Battalion commander...... This bullet picking thing can be done by other soldiers, we can't even train too late! The more I practice, the more I feel that I am not enough, and the more I practice, the more terrible I feel......"
"What are you afraid of?"
"I'm afraid of going to war!" Company Commander Luo replied: "I was thinking just now, if the Yue Devil Sniper was trained like this, and the bullets they use are still special bullets...... Can we defeat them? ”
"Hmm!" I nodded, it's a good thing that Company Commander Luo would be so worried...... There is a saying that "the newborn calf is not afraid of the tiger", and the ancients wanted to express the courage of the newborn calf in this sentence, but if you say it from another angle...... The reason why this newborn calf is not afraid of tigers is actually because of ignorance.
In other words, people tend to be more fearless in ignorance, but as they know more and more things, this ignorant fearlessness will slowly be worn out.
Company Commander Luo's situation may be like this, and I believe that a considerable number of soldiers think the same way...... They originally thought that the only difference between them and the Vietnamese snipers was the sniper rifle, so the moment they got the sniper rifle, they thought that they could go to the battlefield and fight the Vietnamese army for a long time, but as the training deepened, they found out that this was not the case......
This at least proves that the fighters know themselves better, or arguably better, the enemy.
"Company Commander Luo!" I said, "You can't leave the selection of bullets to someone else, because if you choose the wrong bullet, it is very likely to cause the death of the soldiers on the battlefield." Out of responsibility for their own lives, and the fact that they can skillfully sift through bullets if they run out of bullets on the battlefield, soldiers should also choose their own bullets.
Secondly, the selection of bullets is actually a kind of training...... It is the carefulness, patience and observation skills of the warriors that are trained.
They can also learn to sift through bullets, and they can train the abilities of their fighters...... Would you let someone else do this for you? ”
"Oh!" Hearing this, Company Commander Luo quickly understood my intentions, saluted me, and then led the soldiers to continue to screen the bullets.
As the saying goes, "blessings and misfortunes", it may seem good that Vietnamese snipers have special ammunition supplied by the Soviet Union, but ...... Once our army conducts counter-sniper warfare on the entire front or on a local battlefield, the Vietnamese army's special sniper ammunition will soon be in short supply...... At that time, the Vietnamese snipers were afraid that their combat effectiveness would be greatly reduced because they could not adapt to the machine gun shells used for replacement.
So, in that respect, it's not a bad thing that we don't have dedicated sniper shells. (To be continued......)
