Chapter Twenty-Three: Professor McGonagall's Doubts

Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Headmaster's Office.

Dumbledore sat in a chair with a mirror in his hand and chatted gently with a child.

From time to time, laughter could be heard from inside, as if amused by Dumbledore's sneering jokes.

A moment later, another voice of "Annie, it's time to eat" came from the mirror, and the girl said "goodbye" and left quickly.

Dumbledore put down the mirror and glanced at the time intently, but he didn't expect it to be dinner.

In front of him was a large claw-shaped table, and behind the seat was a shelf with a tattered peaked wizard's hat.

"Dumbledore, how about the lyrics I just prepared?" The hat twisted, a crack cracking through the brim.

"It's pretty good, the lyrics are as good as ever, the students will love it!" Dumbledore commented.

"But you didn't listen!" The Sorting Hat made a shrill sound.

It was left out in the cold, and it was very dissatisfied.

"You just talk to that little girl, is she more interesting than me?!"

Dumbledore raised an eyebrow, isn't that obvious?

The Sorting Hat is a self-inflicted disgrace.

The Sorting Hat apparently had no such realization, muttered a few words, and asked, "Have you been to Newmongaard?" ”

Dumbledore's mood quickly fell, he was silent for a moment, and shook his head: "Didn't go." ”

"Why, didn't you go to the Wizards' United Conference? The congress was held in Austria, so close to it. ”

Dumbledore didn't speak.

"He keeps writing to you, saying that he is sick and in poor health, and wants to see you." The Sorting Hat gossiped after him.

Dumbledore finally raised his head and said in an old voice, "What should I say when I see him?" ”

The Sorting Hat grinned, "Tell me about the current situation, talk about our hearts, and care for each other...... Body, isn't it good? ”

"That's already been talked about in the letter." Dumbledore glanced at a locked cabinet with a stack of letters from Newmengard.

"Writing a letter and meeting are two different things." The Sorting Hat persuaded in the tone of a passer-by.

It seems that it also had a singing and crying country love story with a certain women's hat.

Dumbledore said softly, "The time difference caused by the delay between letters is only a fraction of a second between the germination time of natural yeastβ€”"

"Once communication becomes so efficient," interrupted, "that there is no longer a need to look at each other, certain affections will quickly depreciate undetected......

Dumbledore, I've read Charing's Cross too. ”

"Oh, who gave it to you?" Dumbledore wondered.

"William, he gave me a Christmas present, this boy is really good, it is the first time I have received a gift from someone other than you.

I remember his family lived near Charing Cross, right? ”

"Yes, it's a beautiful street, I visited once, but William hasn't lived there lately, he bought a house in the wizarding village."

Dumbledore was pleased to be able to shift the conversation away from Grindelwald.

Just then, there was a knock at the door.

Dumbledore looked at the door and whispered, "Come in." ”

A tall witch dressed in an emerald green robe opened the door and entered.

The Sorting Hat then shut up, and it felt that it was not a good time to discuss Dumbledore's relationship issues in front of Professor McGonagall.

"Minerva, good afternoon." Dumbledore motioned for Professor McGonagall to sit down in her chair.

"Hello Professor Dumbledore, I have something to discuss with you, do you have time now?"

"All day, of course." Dumbledore laughed.

"But don't rush, first a little honey butter almonds? It was a small gift from Anne. ”

Dumbledore waved his hand, and a plate appeared on the table.

Professor McGonagall politely declined, she was past the age of snacking, and handed over a file.

"This semester, there are a total of seventeen students who want to apply for the fund, and I have already reviewed them, and the places are here, and you need to sign them."

Dumbledore took the list and looked at it carefully.

Hogwarts does not charge tuition fees at all, and even provides a bursary fund for those students who are poor to ensure their graduation.

"I think it's time to increase the amount of our bursary fund, it's too small." Dumbledore said.

Lockhart had to buy seven books at once, and the amount of the bursary was still not enough for those who wanted those financially disadvantaged students.

"But the Regent ......," Professor McGonagall hesitated. I think Malfoy would have objected. ”

"Let Professor Snape talk, and he'll find a way to talk." Dumbledore said confidently.

"I remember, didn't Professor Snape just convince Malfoy to donate seven Halos 2001 to Slytherin House?"

Dumbledore laughed, "It's too generous, I knew that Malfoy was so enthusiastic about education, he shouldn't have changed his broom so quickly......"

Professor McGonagall glanced at Dumbledore with a small look, and she pursed her lips, not very happy.

Last year they didn't win the Quidditch Cup, and this year Slytherin House changed shotguns...... Isn't it possible for the Quidditch Cup to be a lifetime set?

Wait a minute...... I haven't won the House Cup Gryffindor in years!

Professor McGonagall's mouth pursed even tighter.

"Of course, if the school director doesn't agree, we can let Sniff go to the world to dig for gold, and I remember Newt has a lot of them at home."

Dumbledore made another cold joke, and Professor McGonagall felt a chill, and goosebumps rose from the cold.

"Headmaster, there's one more thing, about William's schedule."

"What's wrong?" Dumbledore's tone didn't change in the slightest.

"He's taken all twelve courses, there's a lot of time conflicts here, do you need to help him apply for a time converter?" Professor McGonagall asked.

If a student is too fond of learning, the professor can write letters to the Ministry of Magic telling them that the owner is an exemplary student and will never use it for anything other than studying.

Of course, there are very few students who meet the conditions, and they must be the kind of good students who are excellent in character and learning.

Dumbledore crossed his hands and shook his head, "No, it's entirely up to William which class he wants to take, just give him an exam in the end." ”

Professor McGonagall hesitated, then nodded. "Well, it looks like you've decided, you've always had your own point."

Dumbledore lifted the glasses on the bridge of his twisted nose and asked, "Any more questions?" ”

"It's all about...... New Defence Against the Dark Arts professors, let me ask, especially Professor Snape.

During this time, you went to Austria for a wizarding convention, and we heard that Lockhart was going to be a professor? Professor McGonagall frowned.

Lockhart was a complete nuisance, and while he was in school, he created all kinds of problems.

Lockhart told everyone who would listen to him that he would make a Philosopher's Stone before graduating, then captain the LinkedIn Glenn team to the Quidditch World Cup, and eventually become the youngest Minister of Magic in the United Kingdom.

Lockhart is also hungry for attention and for various awards.

He asked the principal to create a school newspaper, just to see his name printed on it.

It was also the first Hogwarts newspaper, but it was full of praise for him, and it was subsequently discontinued.

When he saw that these "feats" did not win him attention, he began to resort to more grandiose and dramatic means.

Professor McGonagall didn't like the student at all, let alone come back to teach.

It was a disaster.

So, why did Dumbledore want him back?

Could it really be that the two made some kind of special deal, as Snape had guessed?

……
