Chapter 407: The Great War Is About to Begin (25)

Xie Baoshu doesn't like Buddhism very much, but the monk Tongming is kind to him.

The monks are compassionate and have good intentions. There was a practitioner named Fearless Sanzang, who had a very bright heart despite his unclean diet and vulgar words and deeds. Therefore his master loved him very much, but he was sorry that his behavior was unclean, so he ordered him to sleep outside the door.

One night, his master caught a louse and threw it on the ground, and fearlessly shouted outside the door, "Kill the Buddha!" When the master heard this, he was very surprised, so he called him in and asked.

Fearless replied: All living things are Buddhas, all have Buddha nature, even if they are tiny insects, they have life, and their every move has a sound. We mortals are ignorant, and because we can't recognize them, we kill them at will. As everyone knows, when they shout for help, all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas hear it very clearly, and they are very unhappy! Therefore, the retribution of killing living beings in this way is no different from killing the Buddhas and dragons! We have a distinction between being intelligent and stupid about all kinds of living beings, but in the eyes of all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, we are all equal, and our compassion for them is the same. The louse you threw just now had broken the third foot on your left and was crying out in pain, but I was the only one who could hear it.

When everyone heard this, they didn't believe it, so they brought the candle and took a closer look, and sure enough, they saw that the third foot on the left side of the lice had been broken, so they all looked at each other in surprise!

From then on, the monks warned each other not to harm the insects. From this, we can see that in order to practice enlightenment, it is very important to have compassion for all things.

Once upon a time, there was a monk whose house was often stolen by thieves, and the monk was very angry, but he had no choice but to close the doors and windows tightly every day. One day, the monk closed the door and window and hid in the room, and the thief came again and knocked on the door. The monk said, "Don't knock, I'm going to let you knock on my door." I dare not see you, but put your hand in! I will give you whatever you want. ”

The thief did put his hand inside the door. The monk hurriedly tied the thief's hand with a rope, tied it to the pillar, and then opened the door with a wooden stick, picked up the wooden stick, and shouted in his mouth: "Take refuge in the Buddha!"

The thief was frightened, and hurriedly followed, "Take refuge in the Buddha!" The monk raised his stick, slammed it again, and shouted: "Convert to the law!" The thief was afraid of death, and also shouted: "Ouch!

The monk then struck a third time and shouted, "Take refuge in the monk!" The thief was terrified and shouted: "Take refuge in the monk!" and muttered in his heart while shouting: "I don't know how many 'refuges' this monk has?" If he wants to continue to 'take refuge' like this, he will have to beat me to death. ”

Unexpectedly, the monk stopped fighting, untied the rope, and let the thief go. The thief limped home, lay on his bed, could not get up again, and recuperated for a long time before he healed from his wounds. After recovering from his injuries, he became a monk.

Someone asked him, "You used to be a thief and did all the bad things, how can you repent now and want to become a monk?"

The thief replied, "I thought about it, and I thought that Shakyamuni was so great that I asked to become a monk." I was caught by a monk who hit me three times with a stick and almost didn't kill me. If Shakyamuni had taught his disciples not the 'three refuges' but the 'four refuges,' I would have died! I must have known that I would have been caught hundreds of years ago, and if the 'four refuges' had been formulated, I would have been beaten to death, so I would have formulated only the 'three refuges.' Shakyamuni was so great that I asked to become a monk. ”

In the past, when the Buddha lived in the world, there was a monk who wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle and went to a secluded forest near the river, where he meditated alone under a tree, full of hope for the attainment of the Tao. However, this monk, although he was in a secluded forest, lived a quiet life, and on the outside he seemed to have no desires, but the desires in his heart were always ready to move.

If you encounter a bad climate or a rough diet, you will feel troubled and even complain, and your mind will fluctuate with the external environment such as color, sound, fragrance, taste, and touch, sometimes joyful, sometimes sad, and your heart will never be stable. Day after day, spring and autumn, twelve years have passed, and this bhikshu still has not attained enlightenment, so he is troubled and thinks, "Why am I still an ordinary man after I work so hard?"

Knowing that the cause for the attainment of this bhikshu was coming, the Buddha took the form of a samun, went to the forest where the bhikshu lived, and worked hard with the bhikshu. One day, when the night was falling and the moon was high, the two monks saw a turtle slowly crawling up the shore from the river, and a hungry fox was coming in the distance, anxious to find food.

In order to save his life, the turtle hurriedly retracted its head, tail, and limbs into its shell. When the fox left, the tortoise, which had finally saved its life, slowly stretched its head and tail and limbs outward, and finally crawled back into the river.

Both saw this scene, and the bhikshu told the Buddha that the turtle had a life-protecting shell, so the fox could not harm it.

Hua Shamen replied, "The people of the world are not as good as this turtle! When the turtle is in danger, it knows how to close its head and tail and limbs. However, people in the world are completely ignorant of the impermanence of ghosts peeping at all times, and if they want to take their own lives, they indulge their eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind, and chase the external six dusts of color, sound, fragrance, taste, touch, and dharma, and create all kinds of negative karma, so that the demons of affliction, death, and illness can take advantage of them. All this is due to the inability of the mind to make the decision, which will invoke the bitter fruit of the flow of life and death.

Huashamen then exhorted the bhikshus with a poem: "The Tibetan six are like turtles, the will is like a city, the wisdom and the devil fight, and if you win, you will be fine." Hearing this, the bhikshu was enlightened, and he gave up all kinds of cravings for the sights, sounds, fragrances, tastes, and touches of the world, and devoted himself to his practice, and soon attained the attainment of arhat fruit.

When the World-Honored One attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree, he said, "All sentient beings have the wisdom and virtue of being like this, but they do not attain it because of delusional attachment." "Ordinary sentient beings cling to the five aggregates as real, and become greedy, ignorant, murderous, and fornicatory. If you can raise awareness, keep to the six gates, reflect at all times, do not climb, do not cling, do not be greedy, ignorant, and naΓ―ve, the compassion and wisdom inherent in your nature will surely shine in the ten directions.

When a monk came to the donor's house, he saw him gargling his mouth with a poplar stick, applying a bezoar to his forehead, wearing a shell on his head, holding a bilberry in his hand, and sticking it to his forehead, with a very respectful attitude.

When the monk saw him like this, he asked puzzledly, "What are you doing?"

The benefactor said proudly, "I want to pretend to be auspicious." ”

"What benefits can I get by pretending to be auspicious?" the monk asked.

In this way, you can get great merit, such as the death to be alive, the bound to be liberated, the beaten to be forgiven, and so on. ”

Hearing the benefactor's ignorant words, the monk smiled and said, "If you can get these benefits by pretending to be auspicious, that's really good." But tell me, where did this bezoar come from?"

"The bezoar is taken from the ribcage of the cow. The donor said.

"If you apply this bezoar, you can get good luck and good fortune, so why is it that the ox is forced to go to the trailer and ride with ropes and chains, and has to endure the torment of whips, hunger, thirst and fatigue?"

"That's how the cow lives. The donor nodded in agreement, but he didn't understand what it was for.

"Why is it that the ox itself has an auspicious bezoar, but it cannot relieve itself of its suffering?" Seeing that the benefactor was still confused, the monk further explained: "The cow has a bezoar, but it can't relieve your own suffering, and you just rub some bezoar on your forehead, how can you save your own predicament?" After listening to the monk's teachings, the donor felt that it made sense, so he was silent.

The monk asked him again, "What is this snow-white hard thing, which can make a sound, and where did it come from?"

"It's shells that come out of the sea. The donor replied.

The monk explained: "It was obviously abandoned on land by the waves and suffocated to death by the scorching sun. If so, how can it be said that it is auspicious? The worm lives with the shell, and hides in the shell day and night. But when it dies, the shell can't save it, and now you're only wearing the shell temporarily, how can you save your bad luck?" When the donor heard this, he nodded again and again, silently.

The monk knew that his words had already moved the other party and that it was time to save him, so he continued, "You tell me, what is that thing that the world regards as a joy pill and attaches great importance to it?"

"That's Bilgo!" The donor said.

"The fruit of the tree is the fruit of the tree. When a man wants to get it, he throws a stone at the ground, and the bilgo and the branch fall to the ground together. Because of the presence of fruit, the branches and leaves are knocked down. ”

"That's true. ”

"So, even if you have it, what good fortune is there? The fruit grows on a tree, but it cannot keep it. How can someone protect humanity if someone throws it to get it, and the branches and leaves fall at the same time, and they are burned into firewood and cannot save themselves?"

After listening to the sincere words of the monk, the confusion in the benefactor's heart was immediately solved. He finally understood that there is no external thing in this world that can dominate the good and evil.

Bodhicitta Statement: External help is important, but only oneself can truly dominate oneself. As the benefactor in the text realizes, there is nothing external in the world that can govern good and evil. Therefore, you must learn to be your own master.

One day, the Buddha said to the King of Meditation: Before the immeasurable monks, when the pure lotus eyes came to the world to spread the Dharma to the people, an arhat was walking on the road and met a woman with a sad face named Guangmu, who devoutly offered food to the arhats, and the arhats asked her, "Do you have anything on your mind? ”

Guangmu said: "Because my deceased mother did not believe in cause and effect and created bad karma during her lifetime, I was worried that she would fall into the evil path, so I did good deeds for her on the day of her death. But I still think about my mother very much, and I don't know where she is reborn now?"

Knowing Guangmu's filial piety, the Arhat made observations and found that Guangmu's mother was suffering greatly in the hell path, and the arhat asked the light-eye, "What did your mother do when she was alive?

Bitter days. ”

Guangmu replied: "My mother liked to eat fish and turtles when she was alive, especially the eggs of fish and turtles, and she often fried or boiled them, and feasted on them, so she could eat hundreds of fish eggs in one bite, so in her whole life, I am afraid that there are tens of millions of fish and turtles that die in her mouth! May I ask Your Holiness, how can I save my mother?"

Luo Han sighed when he heard this: "There are too many bad karmas created by people in the world for the sake of a short three-inch tongue. You can recite and worship the holy name of the Pure Lotus Nyorai with all sincerity, and you and your mother will be blessed immeasurably. ”

When Guangmu heard this, he immediately sold his property, looked for the holy image of the pure lotus flower, and worshiped with all his heart.

One night, Guangmu dreamed that the pure lotus flower was shining with gold and was as tall as a mountain, and he told Guangmu, "Your mother will soon be reborn in your house, and she will be able to speak after birth, and she will tell you the cause and effect of all this." ”

After a period of time, the slave maid of Guangmu's family gave birth to a son, and on the third day after the child was born, she tearfully told Guangmu: "I am your mother, since I have been separated from you by yin and yang, I have fallen into the great hell and suffered immeasurably. It's just that I have a lot of sinful karma, and although I am reborn as a human being in this life, I am poor and lowly and short-lived, and I will die at the age of thirteen, and then I will fall into hell and continue to suffer. ”

After hearing this, Guangmu knew that this person was reincarnated by his mother, and his heart was filled with joy and sorrow, and he asked, "Mother, do you know why you fell into the great hell and suffered in the first place?"

The son of the slave replied, "I have fallen into the evil path because of my killing of sentient beings and slandering the Three Jewels, and if it were not for your dedication, I would still be suffering in hell." ”

"What is the condition in hell?"

The son of the slave replied bitterly: "Alas, it is so bitter that I really can't bear to mention it again, and the pain of a thousand knives is indescribable!"

When Guangmu heard this, he shed tears for his mother and the beings who were suffering in hell, and made a vow to the air: "May my mother be free from the suffering of hell forever!

Buddhas and Bodhisattvas of the Ten Directions, please have compassion and listen to my vast vow for my mother: 'If my mother can forever be free from the three evil paths and the retribution of the lowly people, and never again be reborn as a woman and suffer all kinds of suffering, may I spend the next hundreds of billions of eons to save all beings in the world's hells, beasts, and hungry ghosts, so that they can be freed from such evil paths, and until I become a Buddha, I will achieve supreme enlightenment!' At this moment, the sound of the pure lotus eyes came from the air: "Guangmu, your great filial piety and great compassion are truly precious!" You can make such a great vow for your mother, so after she is thirteen years old, she will be reborn as a practitioner who will abide by the path and live a long life, and then she will be born in a worry-free land, and her life span will be even more incalculable, and finally she will also achieve the Buddha's path, a sentient being of immeasurable breadth!"

The Buddha told King Dingzizai, "At that time, the Arhat was the later Bodhisattva of Infinite Intention, and the light eye whose mother made a great vow to liberate the Bodhisattva is the Bodhisattva of the Great Wish Jizo King." Since long ago, King Jizo Bodhisattva has made great vows to save all sentient beings.

Once upon a time, there was a country called Joy and Carefree, and the king was named Guang Ci Ai. There was a rich man in the country named Mahattan and his wife was named Mudha. She was pregnant, and at the end of October, she gave birth to a boy, who was plump in heaven, with two ears and shoulders, and a blessed appearance, which is rare in the world.

The child was born to speak, and he swore to heaven: "I will help all the poor people in the world, so that all the widows and orphans can live a happy life." When the parents saw this, they were taken aback and wondered if the "demons and monsters" had come to reincarnate and wanted to find a fortune teller to do the math.

The child immediately understood the parents' intentions, and he said, "Don't worry, I am a human being, neither a demon nor a ghost, but I just pity the poor people of the world and want to help them!"

Because the child was born with such great ambitions, they named him careless. Since then, he has been careless like ordinary children, and there are no more unusual words and deeds. When he was seventeen years old, he said to his father: "I see that there are many poor people in the world, and I want to help and relieve them as much as possible, so that they can live a happy life." ”

The parents thought: "This child has just been born, and he has made this vow, which is naturally irrevocable." He had no choice but to fulfill his wish, and said, "We have innumerable treasures of gold and silver in our house, and we will not stop you from giving as much as you want." Anyway, when we die, all this wealth will be yours. ”

It was said to the effect: "Although my parents have a lot of wealth, there are more poor people in the world, so this wealth is still not enough for me to give." In order to completely save the poor people in the world, I want to go into the sea to collect treasures and come back to give alms. At the beginning, his parents were reluctant to let carelessness go out to experience the dangers of the sea, and resolutely disagreed with him to go. But he couldn't help but grind hard again and again, and finally had to agree to him.

So he said goodbye to his parents and embarked on a journey. One day, he passed through a country where there was a Brahmin who was very wealthy and had accumulated a lot of gold, silver, and jewelry. When he saw that he was good-looking, and his face was full of happiness, he liked it very much, and he said, "You are such a lovely child." I have an only daughter, who is an outstanding person, and I want to recruit you as a son-in-law, so you can stay with me!" to the effect that "I left home to come here in order to go into the sea to collect treasures, and the treasure collection has not yet been completed, so I dare not agree to your request." I'll talk about it when I get back!"

Continuing to move on, after a lot of hardships, he finally came to the sea, he was not afraid of the wind and waves, resolutely sailed into the sea, and indeed found many treasures. He was pleased, but then he thought, "These treasures are still not enough for charity, and more of his treasures should be collected." So he sent the treasures he had gathered back to his own country, and he continued his journey to the deep sea.

Carelessness rides the wind and waves and keeps moving forward. Suddenly, on the sea in front of him, a great tree sprang up, with a circumference of eighty and a height of eighty ten. He tethered the ship and climbed up with all his might, and saw in the distance a silver city, the palaces and palaces were all made of silver, the sky was drifting with beautiful music, and beautiful goddesses came and went. However, there was a poisonous python that used its huge body to surround the entire silver city three times, vigilantly guarding this treasure city. When the poisonous python saw someone approaching, it raised its head and stared at it, and the huge snake letter spat out and stretched out, and spewed out bursts of poisonous mist.

Thought: "If a person does not hurt the heart of a snake, the snake will not hurt anyone." "Sit down on the floor and meditate. Seeing that there was no malice in the senses, the poisonous python lowered its head, and after a while, it fell asleep. So he carelessly planned to enter the Silver City. When the gatekeeper saw that a stranger was about to enter the city, he hurried to report to the king.

No stranger had ever been here, and when he heard that someone had come, the king was very pleased and went to the city gate to meet him. The king said, "I hope you will live in our country for a while, and let me provide for you for three months."

He replied, "I am here to collect treasures, so I can't stay long." The king said, "In any case, I would like you to stay for a few days." I had no choice but to agree.

The king prepared all kinds of luxurious clothes and fine food for carelessness, let him live in a splendid palace, and sent many beautiful palace maids to serve him. After staying here for ninety days, he took his leave to the king.

When the king saw that he could not keep him, he gave him many jewels of gold and silver. He said to the effect: "I don't want these gold and silver jewels, I heard that the king has a treasure jewel, and he wishes to give it to me." The king said, "I am not reluctant to give it to you, but I am afraid that the road will be difficult and it will be difficult for you to bring it home." ”

He said to the effect: "I came out to collect treasures so that the poor people of the world can live a happy life, and I am not afraid of any difficulties and obstacles." The king then asked him to bring the jewel and give it to him, saying, "This jewel can absorb all kinds of gold, silver and jewels within twenty miles, and I hope you will cherish it all the way!"

Carelessly moving on, he saw a golden city, the palace and the palace were all made of gold, and there were trees made of seven treasures everywhere, and beautiful music was playing in the sky, and there were more celestial maidens and attendants than the silver city, and they were more beautiful. However, there was also a big poisonous python that circled the city six times, hovering and lying, and when it saw the carelessness coming, it raised its head and stared at him viciously.

Carelessly sat down to meditate again, and the poisonous python fell asleep with his head bowed after a while. As he was about to enter the city, the gatekeeper had already informed the king, and the king had already entered the city.

When the king saw a stranger coming, he was very glad and said, "In any case, please stay with us for a while, and let me provide for you for three months." ”

carelessness had to stay. The king prepared the palace, clothes, food, and utensils for carelessness, and sent many beautiful celestial maidens to sing and dance for him.

He stayed for sixty days, and could not stay any longer, and insisted that the king let him go. So the king brought him many precious treasures.

He said to the effect: "I don't want any of these seven treasures, I heard that the king has a treasure jewel, and he hopes to give it to me." The king said, "It's not that I can't bear this bead, but it's just that you have a long way to go, and how hard it is, I'm afraid it will be difficult for you to bring it home." ”

It is to the effect that "for the happiness of millions of people, I am not afraid of any hardship." The king then gave him the jewel and told him, "This jewel will attract all the pearl treasures of forty miles to him." ”

He continued to move forward and saw a crystal city in front of him, and the palace buildings were all made of crystal. The trees, the natural music, and the beautiful goddesses of the Seven Treasures are all more and more refined than the Golden City. However, there was also a big poisonous python that circled the city nine times, hovering and lying, and when it saw carelessness coming, it raised its head and stared at him. Carelessly sat down to meditate, and soon the poisonous python fell asleep with its head down. He was about to enter the city, when the king of Crystal City had already heard the news and came to greet him.

The king also kept him and said, "Stay with us for three months!" Although the hospitality here was better than that of the Golden City, he only stayed for forty days before he took his leave to the king and insisted on leaving.

And the king brought out all the treasures and gave them to him. He didn't accept it, and said, "I don't need any of this, I heard that the king has a treasure orb, and I hope you can give it to me." ”

The king took out the jewel and gave it to Dayi, and told him, "This bead can attract all kinds of pearl treasures within sixty miles." He said goodbye to the king of Crystal City, continued to move forward, and saw a glazed city, and all the palaces and palaces were built of glaze. The trees of Qibao, the natural music, and the beautiful goddess are incomparable to the Crystal City. There was a big poisonous python that circled the city twelve times, and when it saw carelessness coming, it raised its head. But as soon as he sat down to meditate, he also lowered his head and fell asleep.

The shocked king also greeted the city gate, and asked him to stay here for three months. Although the hospitality here is many times better than that of Crystal City, he only stayed for twenty days before he insisted on leaving. The king also brought out many treasures to give him.

He didn't accept anything but hoped that the king would give him a treasure orb. So the king also took out the treasure bead, gave it to Dayi, and told him, "This bead can attract all the pearl treasures within eighty miles." ”

With four treasure beads in his arms, he happily embarked on his way home. He found his boat and rushed out into the open sea, ready to return home.

When many dragon kings in the sea heard that they had obtained four jewels and were about to return home, they gathered together and discussed, saying, "Although we have all kinds of pearl treasures in the sea, we have not yet gathered jewels, so we must find a way to take them over." So he ordered the sea god to take it.

The sea god turned into a man and drove a small boat to find careless, and asked, "I heard that you have obtained a few precious orbs, can you let me see them?"

He took out the four jewels from his bosom and handed them to him. The sea god took the orbs and looked at them, then threw them into the sea, and jumped into the sea in his original form.

I knew that I had been fooled, and I was furious, and shouted loudly: "Okay! I have gone through a lot of hard work to find these four orbs, and today I was deceived by you, if you don't return them to me quickly, I will dig up your sea!"

When the sea god heard this, he couldn't help laughing and saying: "Your ambition is really great! The sea is 3,360,000 miles deep, and its width is boundless, how can you drain the sea? Do you have the ability to pull the sun to the ground and tie up the wind? Even if you can pull down the sun and tie up the wind, you can't dry the sea!"

He sneered slightly and shouted, "Where there is a will, there is a way." We'll see!" He took out a spoon and scooped up the seawater.

Day after day, year after year, carelessly scooping the seawater. His spirit of sacrificing himself for the happiness of millions of poor people touched the gods.

The gods descended and helped him scoop the water, so that the water soon became shallow. It didn't take long for only a third of the water to remain.

The dragon kings in the sea began to be afraid, and discussed: "If we don't return the orb to him, when the sea water is drained, none of us will survive." "But to return the treasure bead to carelessness like this, it is really a little reluctant and unwilling. They sent the god of the sea with a lot of gold, silver and jewels to give to Dayi, begging him to stop scooping the sea.

Without looking back, he said, "I don't want these things, I just want my four orbs." If you don't return my orb, I won't put down the spoon in my hand. ”

Seeing that he was so determined, the sea god had no choice but to leave in disgrace. The dragon kings had no choice but to return the four treasure beads to carelessness as they were. He took the orb and continued his journey to the house of the brahman. The daughter of the brahmin was waiting for him. After the two held a grand wedding, they both returned to the happy and carefree country.

Since then, we have had an inexhaustible source of wealth. He continued to give this wealth to all those in need, so that everyone in the world lived a life of food and clothing.

Once upon a time, a poor man went to visit a rich friend. When his friends saw that he was destitute, they sympathized with him very much, so they warmly entertained him. The poor drank heartily, and got drunk and fell asleep.

At this time, my friend suddenly received an official order to go to a distant place, so he said goodbye to him, but he couldn't wake him up. For the sake of his future, friends come up with a plan: sew a priceless jewel into his collar. Then, the friend hurried away.

When the poor man woke up, he did not realize that he was carrying a treasure, and because he could not find his friends, he had to continue to wander, lacking food and clothing, and sleeping in the open.

By chance, the two met again, and when his friend saw that he was still as good as ever, he told him: "You don't know yet, you have a priceless orb." ”

As in this parable, the jewel of Buddha-nature is hidden by the collar of greed and ignorance, and it exists without being defiled.

In the eyes of the Buddha, there is no difference between sentient beings and the Buddha itself, so the Buddha said, "All sentient beings have the wisdom and merits of the Buddha!" (Lotus Sutra)

This metaphor is also apt for those who recite the Buddha. When we recite the Buddha, we still think that there is something lacking in merit, and we work hard to accumulate merit, and we don't know when we will be able to achieve our past life, and our hearts are uneasy. Until one day, when I encounter good knowledge, I tell you: A Buddha name contains supreme merit, and the past life is in it. Between the claims and thoughts, the past life has been achieved.

A water porter with two buckets, one of which is cracked and the other intact. After each long journey, the intact bucket always carries a full bucket of water from the stream to the owner's house, but when the cracked bucket arrives at the owner's house, there is only half a bucket of water left.

For two years, the porter carried a bucket and a half of water to the master's house every day. Of course, good buckets take pride in being able to fill entire buckets of water. He was very ashamed of his own shortcomings, and he felt very sorry for only half of the responsibility.

After two years of failure, the broken bucket finally couldn't bear it anymore, and said to the water porter by the stream: "I am ashamed and must apologize to you." "Why?" asked the porter, "why do you feel ashamed?" "For the past two years, because of the leakage of water from my side, I have only been able to send half a bucket of water to your master's house, and my defects have caused you to do all the work and receive only half of the results. Said the broken bucket. The waterman felt sorry for the broken bucket, and he said lovingly, "As we return to our master's house, I want you to keep an eye out for the flowers that bloom by the roadside." ”

Sure enough, as they walked down the hillside, the sight of the broken bucket shining brightly, and seeing the colorful flowers, blooming all over the side of the road, bathed in the warm sun, made him much happier! But at the end of the path, it was uncomfortable again, because half of the water had leaked out on the road again! The broken bucket apologized again to the water porter. The waterman said gently, "Have you noticed that on both sides of the path, only your side has flowers, but the other side of the good bucket has not bloomed? I know that you are defective, so I have taken advantage of it, and have sprinkled flowers on the side of the road on your side, and every time I come from the stream, you have watered them for me! For two years these beautiful flowers have adorned the master's table." If you're not like that, there's no such beautiful flower on the host's table!"

On a sunny and sunny day, the Buddha and His Holiness Ananda were walking along the field path. Suddenly, both of them saw a pile of shiny treasures on the side of the road, and the Buddha said to Ananda, "Ananda, you see, there is a big poisonous snake there." Ananda replied, "World-honored One, you are right, it is indeed the most vicious serpent. ”

At that time, there was a farmer in the field who was cultivating the field, and when he heard the conversation between the Buddha and Ananda, he was very curious and thought, "Is there really a poisonous snake?"

The peasant muttered to himself, "Alas, this poisonous snake is the gold that I can enjoy inexhaustibly." So the peasants took advantage of the fact that there was no one around, and they took the gold for themselves, and from then on they lived in abundance, with no shortage of food and clothing.

The poor peasants became rich overnight, and the news soon reached the king's ears. The king suspected that the peasants would get rich overnight by making money illegally, so he sent someone to arrest him and put him in prison, so he punished him with the law.

The peasant said remorsefully in prison, "The Lord said that it was a poisonous snake, and the Venerable Ananda also said that it was a poisonous snake...... and the jailer felt very strange when he saw this, and he immediately reported the matter to the king. When the king heard this, he sent a jailer to escort the peasants to the palace to inquire about the reason.

The farmer regretted that "when I was plowing the fields before, the Buddha and the Venerable Ananda happened to go to the edge of the fields, and when they heard them say that there were poisonous snakes, they went over to find out what was going on, and only then did they find these priceless golds. Blinded by greed, I took it for myself, and now that I'm in prison for it, I finally understand that gold is a poisonous snake!"

After hearing the farmer's answer, the king knew that he had believed the Buddha's words and repented, so he not only did not want him to return the gold he had found, but also gave the farmer many treasures and restored his freedom.

When Shakyamuni Buddha was giving a lecture at Gion Monastery, a wealthy elderly man lived nearby, who had just married his only son at the age of 20. However, less than seven days after the wedding, the son climbed a very high tree in order to pick flowers for the bride, accidentally fell down and lost his life, and the whole family cried sadly.

The Buddha took pity on the family of the elders, comforted them with the principle of "impermanence in all laws", and taught:

"Life is like a ripe fruit, and I am often afraid that it will be scattered. There is suffering in all births, how can you not die?

"From the beginning of love and desire, you can see into the shadow, and the life is like electricity, and the flow of day and night is unstoppable.

"The body is a dead thing, the spirit is invisible, the life is resurrected, and the blessing of sin is not defeated.

"It is never a lifetime, from infatuation for a long time, since the love of bitterness and happiness, the body and death are not lost. ”

The elder asked the Buddha, "What kind of karma did my son create, and why did he die so early?"

The Buddha told the elders, "A long time ago, there was a child playing in the forest with a bow and arrow, and he saw a bird in the tree and wanted to shoot it with an arrow. The three children next to him encouraged, 'If you can shoot this bird, you will be a real hero!' and the boy was moved by the good words, drew his bow and arrows, and shot the bird. When the three children saw it, they couldn't help but cheer.

"These three children often suffered the pain of losing their children because they rejoiced when they saw the killing. You are one of them, and the other two are blessed by the world, one is born as a celestial man, and the other is born as a dragon king. As for the child who shot the bird, he was the son of the celestial man in his previous life, and he was reincarnated in the world to become your son, and after he died, he was reincarnated as the son of the dragon king, and he was eaten by the goldfinch on the day he was born, and the goldfinch was reincarnated by the bird he shot before.

"Now, there are three places that weep for this son, one is a celestial, one is you, and the other is a dragon king, and you are at the same time in the heavens, on earth, and in the sea you are heartbroken for the loss of your beloved son, all because you used to rejoice in the killing of living beings. Your sons are often punished for killing innocent people in the past. Karmic karma is really shadowy, not bad at all. ”

Shakyamuni Buddha also said to them:

"The divine consciousness creates the three worlds, the good and the bad are in the three places, the yin action is silent, and the birth is like a response.

"Lust is colorless, and a cause of action is a stay, such as a kind of origin, and nature is like a shadow. ”

The whole family of the elder listened to the teachings of the Lord and immediately attained the holy fruits.
