Chapter Twenty-Five: The Story of a Spell
When Maca arrived at Lovegood's house, Xenophilius was in the kitchen preparing for the day's lunch, while Luna had set up three pairs of cutlery at the small table—Maca had already informed them that she would come.
"Good afternoon, Maca." Luna heard movement on the other side of the fireplace, but she unhurriedly set the plates, and then turned around and said calmly.
"Well, Afternoon Luna!" Maca looked at the girl in a trance in front of her, and had an indescribable emotion - she really hadn't changed at all.
"I haven't seen you in a while, are you okay?" Luna said in a flirtatious tone, as if it wasn't a courtesy greeting, but just a casual remark.
Maca unceremoniously sat down on the sofa next to her, and nodded with a smile: "Not bad, what about you?" ”
"I don't know...... Maybe it's okay. She tilted her head, as if she was really thinking about the recent situation.
At this moment, Xenophilius also wiped his hands and walked over to this side.
"Welcome here for Christmas, my little reader." He said happily, "Have you read the last few issues?" I've written a lot about scimitar-horned snorers, and the response from readers has been great! ”
"Oh yes! That's awesome, you can talk to me about it later. Of course Maca didn't look at it, how could he have that idle time.
Although Xenophilius would ask the owl to bring him a copy in every issue, he never missed a single one.
"Okay, okay, of course! But let's have lunch first, it's ready. "I'll be busy after Christmas, you know, the year-end special issue of "Singing the Opposite" — I've got a lot of interesting stuff in store. ”
He brought Makara to the table and sat down and filled her with a bowl of soup.
“…… So after Christmas, you can accompany Luna to the big Muggle city for me! He said, "I remember you saying that you are familiar with Muggles, and I think you are better than me." ”
"Oh, of course!" Maca nodded.
"That's great! Luna had always wanted to see the Muggle way of life - she was always very fond of the Muggle ornaments I bought for her. Xenophilius looked at his daughter with a pampering glint in his eyes.
Luna turned her head to show Maca the sweet cherry earrings hanging from her ears. At this time, with a hazy smile and big eyes flickering, she looked really happy.
Lunch continued, and Maca was chatting and laughing leisurely with the father and daughter in front of her, meditating on and off the dividing line between Muggles and wizards.
In the wizarding world, where pure-blood wizards are still the main component, the line between wizards and Muggles is still clear. Even though many of the best Muggle wizards have emerged in the wizarding world through the efforts of many sages, the deep-rooted concept of distinction has always been firmly rooted in the hearts of most wizards.
Maca doesn't have much thought about it, she just wants to enjoy her peaceful life. He has the consciousness of being an ordinary person, and even if he becomes a wizard, he is just an ordinary wizard.
Leave all the complicated and troublesome things to a great wizard like Dumbledore.
"Luna, where shall we go first? I think—"
Maca put aside the mess in her heart and discussed the post-holiday itinerary with Luna with a relaxed face.
Time at Lovegood's house always flies, and it mostly has to do with Luna's personality. The more time I spend with her, the easier it is to be affected by her whimsical thinking, and it feels like the whole world has become ethereal.
When she was with Luna, Maca no longer restrained her sensibilities, because it was difficult to find sadness in Luna. The two often laugh so hard because of some funny little things; I will always enjoy this peace silently in a unique and comfortable environment.
In a daze, Christmas Eve has quietly arrived.
Xenophilius was busy in the second-floor workshop, while Maca and Luna were leaning side by side against the outer wall of the room, just like last night, looking up at the endless night sky.
There have been few stars lately, and most of them have been obscured by a thin layer of clouds. A hazy last quarter moon appeared and disappeared on the celestial wall, spreading silver light all over the hillside.
"Mom gave me her favorite thing as my name." Luna looked up at the moon and smiled quietly, as if she was talking to something other than Maca, who was sitting next to her.
Maca nodded, regardless of whether Luna saw it or not.
"What about you?" Luna asked, "How did you get your name?" ”
Maca smiled, inexplicably, but Luna didn't care.
"I came up with my own name," said Maca, "and it always has been." ”
"That's not bad either." "Mom used to say that a wizard's name represents the trajectory of a person's life – where they came from and where they are going. ”
Maca stopped laughing and wiped the tears from her eyes. He couldn't even figure it out, what was that happy? Still sad.
"Yes! It represents where we came from, and perhaps tells us where we are going......"
Early the next morning, Lovegood's house was besieged by owls......
A large number of owls of all colors, breeds, and sizes were haphazardly parked on the lawn slope in front of the house, because the roof and window edges were already full of other owls—all of whom had come to give Maca Christmas presents.
For the first time, Maca knew that she was so popular, and it was said that few people would usually come to talk to him, right?
When Maca was woken up by a series of pecking sounds, Maca hurried out and brought in all the gifts, large and small, and piled them up in the small living room of Luna's house.
At this moment, Luna, who was half-asleep and more dazed than usual, walked out of the room in her red and green plaid pajamas.
"Maka, is this a gift from you?" She asked vaguely with her eyes half-open and holding a small envelope in her hand.
"Yes! Let's open it and take a look! This is the longest Christmas gift I've ever given this year. "Merry Christmas, Luna." ”
"What about my gifts? What about my gifts? Xenophilius on the side was like a child at the moment, and asked Maga excitedly.
"It's coming soon." The smile on Maca's face became clearer.
"Hmm...... Well, what is it? Luna gently tore open the envelope and pulled out a thin card filled with tiny letters and symbols.
"It's a spell," said Maca, "it's the spell that went wrong in the experiment, and I've parsed it." ”
Needless to say, the father and daughter present immediately understood - this was the spell that made Luna lose her mother and Xenophilius lose his wife!
The father and daughter glanced at each other, and both noticed that each other's eyes were a little moist.
Maca was right, they didn't hate the spell at all—they didn't hate anyone or anything. The feelings they have for this incantation are only regrets.
Luna's mother, Pandora Lovegood, was a lover of experimental charms, and she didn't leave a word before she died because of the suddenness of the experiment's error. And this incantation almost became her only wish.
When Xenophilius buried his deceased wife, he buried her test notes with her in the tomb, hoping that this would allow her to continue doing what she loved to do in the unknown place.
Unexpectedly, Luna, who witnessed the whole process at the scene, would keep it firmly in her heart; Unexpectedly, Maca even silently found and parsed the spell based on Luna's casual description of the scene of the incident.
For Luna, Father and Daughter, Maca's Christmas gift is even more precious than anything else.
“…… Thank you, thank you! Xenoflius's voice was visibly trembling.
And Luna was even more sleepy. Without saying a word, she walked towards Maca, hugged him hard, and didn't let go for a long time. At the moment when her eyes staggered, Maca keenly found that at this moment, Luna was completely free of her usual trance, and her big eyes were full of determination.
After a long time, when the two separated, Luna held the thin piece of cardboard in her hand, and her expression became hazy again. It was as if to tell Maca that what he had just seen was just an illusion.
"Alright Luna, come and help me open the present! Let's see, who sent it, I don't remember making so many friends! Maca laughed.
That night, Xenophilius prepared a large amount of food, such as roast meat, roast turkey, meat stewed dipping dishes, etc., as if all the food he had saved on weekdays was spent tonight.
Of course, Lovegood's family has a variety of special foods, and there are all kinds of food, which dazzles Maca for a while.
They let go of their bellies and ate and drank, sometimes cheering with joy, sometimes murmuring. When the atmosphere reached its peak, Luna, who usually doesn't like dancing much, even pulled Maca to dance.
This Christmas dinner for only three people mingled with their laughter until late into the night......
At dawn the next day, as soon as the sky was slightly clear, Xenophilius appeared as an entourage and led the two to a cemetery on the outskirts of Plymouth.
Maca stood silently and watched as Luna lit the card full of analytical formulas and burned it in front of her mother's tombstone.
It was only then that Maca learned from Xenophilius that Luna's mother, Pandora, was home in a small Muggle village not far from here.
Maca looked at the little lonely figure squatting in front of the tombstone.
The waist-length pale blonde soft hair, which was like a waterfall, once again showed a beautiful and innocent halo in the rising sun.
"Call the gods to protect you."
Maca's heart was touched, he silently stared at the girl in front of him, muttering to himself, and a faint silver-white light appeared around him.
