My Days with Death Row Prisoners ( 1 )
Before I went to prison, I had heard many stories about death row inmates, and I was very curious and willing to listen to them. It's easy to think about it after listening to it. After being imprisoned, I experienced the story of the condemned prisoner. Only then did I understand that many rumors were not credible. I listened to other people's stories, so fake, so fake that I still believed it.
While I was in the detention center, there was a story between a death row inmate and me. During the more than a month I was in the detention center, I had no idea that there would be a death row prisoner among the people who stayed in the same prison as me.
There were 12 people in prison, and none of the 11 people completely guessed it, and there may have been a few people who vaguely guessed it, and they were not sure, and there was another person, the condemned prisoner himself, and he didn't guess it, because the condemned prisoner had not yet received the verdict.
Life is like this, and normal people are like this, no one wants to think about themselves in the worst and most unfortunate ways. However, our imagination is higher than real life.
After more than a month in prison, I could not name all the detainees.
People who have just entered the prison are not allowed to talk to each other according to the rules of the prison number, especially for a headline person like me, who has time to secretly whisper a few words to people who meditate left and right, so I am not familiar with the people I get along with day and night. Of course, I don't know all the people, I know more about the first two shops, the first shop is the boss of the supervisor, the second shop is the manager, to put it like a little bit, the boss is the chairman of our company, and the second shop is the general manager. Besides, it's hard to hear, the boss is the helmsman of our criminal gang, the second shop is the captain of the thugs, and there are three shops and four shops, they are thugs, the more people who sleep in the lower bunks, the more disasters they have, the most people in the lower bunks are called disaster veins, the middle shop is called water veins, disaster veins are people who do things and have to be beaten, and water veins are people who only do things and are not beaten. What the disaster veins do is wash the toilet, mop the floor and other dirty work. Shui Maizi is a person who serves the upper bunk Shunmaizi (Shunmaizi is a person who sleeps in the first, second, third, and fourth bunks), and a person who does some "decent work" such as beating the back, fetching water, and receiving meals.
Let's start with myself.
As soon as I entered the detention center, I was taken care of by the boss of the detention center, and I didn't do anything for a week, because I was a local and his co-defendant.
Guarding all three rules: watching things and doing things, taking things into trouble, and not saying anything about death. Seeing things and doing things is to take the initiative to do it immediately when there is something that needs to be done, and when there is a violation of rules and disciplines, take the initiative to stand up and admit that it was done by yourself, and to put it bluntly, it is to take the initiative to carry the black pot for Shunmaizi. Killing does not mean that he was beaten by his own pulse and was injured, and when the cadres investigated, it could not be said that they were beaten by someone. The last two dozen haven't happened to me, so let's not talk about it.
The first one I learned well (the common saying of the labor camp, which means to understand the rules), buried myself in my own business, and did not take the initiative to talk to others, so I didn't say too much to the water veins and disaster veins, what Wei Yi could understand was their approximate appearance and the extent of their disaster. However, I know a lot about Shunmaizi, who can speak loudly to each other, and I know their names, the reasons for the crime, and other circumstances from their conversations.
The condemned prisoner was the most silent man in the whole prison, but he was not completely silent, and when I heard his first voice, my impression of him changed.
I don't remember exactly, maybe it was the third day I was in the detention center, maybe it was the fifth day, from the day I was first put in the detention center to the five days, I thought that the death row prisoner was the most helpful, it was he who first squeezed out a lower bunk for me to lie down on my side, and my other feeling about him was that I thought this person was very honest. One day after this day, he suddenly scolded the two people on his left and right who were in the shop, one of them slept and snored, and the other squeezed him. From this point on, I felt that he was not a good species, snoring was not done consciously by people, and the people who were crowded next to him were also excusable, and it was standard for six people to sleep in the bunk of the detention center, but we slept twelve people, and the Shunmaizi accounted for half of the bunks, and the people below were crowded into a pile, how could there be no crowding. The condemned prisoner could not even accommodate this, and I determined that he had a strong selfish and greedy nature.
In the days that followed, I became even more annoyed with the condemned prisoner, and his behavior made me feel angry, and the image of those dogs and traitors in our anti-Japanese war films was vividly reflected in him. He spoke quietly and stingily, and his voice was afraid of exceeding the decibel emitted by mosquitoes, and that courtesy was like the smell of eunuchs waiting for the emperor. Originally, there was still a place to forgive, and this was also a means to protect his vulnerability, but after he waited for Shun Maizi, his behavior was different, he would shout at the disaster veins, scolding at the beginning, and after the action, I can't specifically describe this kind of personality, I can only say that if I am in power, this kind of person will definitely not raise his head in my hands.
Death row prisoners are not tall, but they are relatively strong. As a new offender, I sometimes forget some of the rules. Don't look at a small prison number, list the rules inside, it is enough to write a code. Comparatively speaking, except for the eldest who can sit on the edge of the bed, no one else is allowed to sit.
One day when I came back from the wind in the wind field, I went back to the prison and sat on the edge of the bed unconsciously, and when I made this mistake, any of the people who slept in the bunk would gently pat me, and I understood this beat. This time, however, as he sat on the edge of the bed, the condemned man was the first to see that he had not done as the others did, and he quickly turned his head in the direction of the boss, and shouted loudly:
"New criminal, do you know how to scare the count, Lao Tzu sees that you haven't suffered a loss......"
He yelled at the boss to me, firstly, to let the boss hear that he was doing things for the boss, secondly, he wanted to provoke the boss to punish me, and thirdly, that is, he wanted to establish himself among the group of us who slept in the lower bunk, and he wanted to be the smooth pulse in the lower bunk.
Fortunately, the boss is my fellow countryman, and it is precisely because the boss is my fellow countryman that I got up from the edge of the bed and stared, I stared at the death criminal, and my eyes and my much taller than him stopped him. He was a little panicked, and his two cheap eyes scanned the Shun Pulses, and he could see that he had a premonition that I was going to hit him, and he was asking them for help. I stared at him for a long time, and he panicked for a long time, and he didn't get a response from Shunmaizi, which means that Shunmaizi still doesn't like him. I didn't hit him, and although I was not against solving the problem by force, my "literati" nature prevented me from being rude.
Soon after this happened, a person named Xiaoqing, who was meditating and sitting next to me, told me that the condemned prisoner had come to this prison the day before me, and that he had been locked up in another prison for a long time, and I don't know how long he had been locked up.
Xiaoqing also told me to take a closer look at his face. I looked closely at his face and saw that there were still swelling marks on his face and at the corners of his eyes. Since then, I've come to believe that this guy isn't the kind you like.
I went to the detention center for about 15 days, and the boss of my prison was about to go down to the farm to serve his sentence after staying in the detention center for more than two years (very long), and on the first day of leaving, several Shunmaizi were summoned by the boss to his side, and he called the death row prisoners to stand next to them, and the boss said to several Shunmaizi in a loud voice:
"After I leave, you must cover this person, I don't cover him here, I give you this task, he is a person who takes care of the industry."
A few of them were submissive, and the boss shouted the name of the condemned prisoner and said:
"Master Yang, you have to do it well, you didn't let you suffer when you came to Lao Tzu, I think you can do it."
Mr. Yang immediately said loudly to the boss:
"Thank you, big brother, thank you, big brother......"
Mr. Yang may still want to say a lot of thanks, but before he said that he was done, a Shunmaizi spoke:
"Get down." The little joy that Mr. Yang had was immediately beaten, and he said in a loud voice:
"Yes, thank you, thank you."
Then Yang retreated back to his meditation position.
In my prison number, I know the names of most of the people for half a month, and those of us who sleep in the lower bunk often whisper our respective messages, so we know each other's names, however, Yang never communicates with people, so I only know his name until the eve of the boss's departure.
After the boss left the next day, the new boss staged a trial meeting to judge Yang on the boss's entrustment and Yang's various performances. to determine whether or not to give him a shift. (According to the meaning of the boss on the eve of the previous year, Yang should be transferred from the disaster vein file to the water vein file).
The scene of the trial meeting was arranged in the wind field, and three beds of stacked cotton wool had already been placed under the west wall (there was no stool for the supervisor, and when the wind was released, the people sat on the cotton wool, and the others sat on the ground), the eldest sat in the middle, the second sat on the left, and the third sat on the far right, and the official grade was clearly distinguished, Yang Dayuan squatted about one meter in front of them, and several of us sat under the north and south walls, and the wind field with an area of about eight square meters appeared "*".
The new boss stilted his legs, lit a cigarette, the second asked the boss for a cigarette and lit it, the cigarette of the prison number is a scarce commodity, the third child is not casually smoking, he has the cheekiness to ask the boss, the boss slowly took out a cigarette from the cigarette case, very calm and slightly reluctant to hand it to the third child. A few Shun veins were filled with fireworks, and the smoke was so smoky that the other prisoners in this small world only swallowed saliva. Yang reverently squatted in front of Shunmaizi, waiting for them to ask questions.
After the new boss moistened the smell of smoke, he dragged out his voice and asked in the tone of the chief judge:
"What's the name of Diao Min squatting below?"
Yang replied: "Report, Diao Min's name is Yang Dayuan." ”
"People there"
"Report, Sichuan Bazhong"
The boss probably knows a little bit about history. When he heard Yang say that he was from Bazhong, he pretended to be surprised and hummed, and then pretended to be kind and asked:
"Are you a descendant of martyrs?"
Mr. Yang also understood the meaning of the question. Bazhong is a revolutionary base established by the Red Fourth Front Army, where many revolutionary battle stories have taken place and many revolutionary martyrs have also been produced.
After listening to the boss's question, Mr. Yang relaxed himself a little, his voice was a little louder, and the words were a little long, he replied to Lao Dao:
"We have a lot of martyrs there, and as far as our brigade is concerned, there are ......"
Before he finished his words, the third reached out and knocked on his head, shouting:
"What so much bullshit, asking you if you are a descendant of martyrs?"
After the third child knocked like this, the boss was immediately silent, he was already dead by the other prison numbers he had passed, he was afraid that Shunmaizi would give him a loss, he hung his head and waited for the boss's next question. In fact, the eldest was still waiting for him to answer whether he was a descendant of martyrs, and after waiting for a while, seeing that Yang did not answer, the third child knocked on his head again and scolded:
"You * pretending to be stupid, asking you if you are a descendant of martyrs?"
This scolding made Yang raise his head suddenly, Yang Dayuan seemed to wake up in his sleep, and he replied vaguely:
"Yes .... Oh.... No.... It's not...."
The third child knocked on his head again and said sharply:
"Yes, or no?"
Mr. Yang's thinking changed at this time, and he replied affirmatively:
"It's not."
A simple question, Mr. Yang's answer was exchanged for four head beatings. Since this question, Yang has not been beaten in answering the question, because he has been beaten four times and sobered up.
Many of the next questions the boss has to ask are the questions of tuning, (tuning is boring words to tease others to achieve their own mental relaxation.) There are a lot of questions asked, all of them are tricky, even uncomfortable to listen to, of course, these questions will not be uncomfortable for those who are at the bottom of the moral level, they will relish, and I remember some of them more clearly:
Are your parents consanguineous married?
Is your mother a child bride?
Did you see it when your parents got married?
Did you peek when your parents were in bed?
When did you break your virgin body?
Have you ever stolen someone else's woman?
Have you ever been gay?
Did your wife cheat or rob it?
What does your wife like most about you?
.......。
Since these questions require that Yang must answer truthfully, if there is a falsehood, he has deceived the "government", and the judge will sanction him on behalf of the "government". Mr. Yang was very serious in answering these questions, and his serious answers attracted laughter from everyone again and again.
It was rare to hear laughter in the prison number, and although the questions were too boring, the real plot of Mr. Yang's answer also caused me to laugh.
Regardless of Yang Dayuan's personal qualities, from his answers, it can be seen that he has been full of curiosity about life since he was a child, and has the courage to act, if he lives in a good environment, he can turn his cleverness into wisdom, and in a bad environment, his cleverness will turn into terrible evil thoughts, which will eventually lead him to the path of crime.
Yang Dayuan's parents are cousins, and close relatives are married. We generally know that the marriage of close relatives will produce the remnants of children, that is a proportion, and there is another kind of love for close relatives, this proportion is smaller, that is, the IQ of the child born is higher than that of other children. Yang Dayuan is the latter type.
There are many weird and bizarre things that the boss asked, and Mr. Yang has done:
Peeking at parents sleeping,
Trick the little girl,
Grow up to lie to big girls
.......。
All the stories, told through his mouth, are so unconcealed, and many words sound disgusting.
After raising Mr. Yang's pipe almost high, the boss began to ask some questions about the rules, and the first thing he asked was the "Code of Conduct for Detainees", which required him to memorize it completely.
Mr. Yang spent several months in other prisons, and the most important thing for him was the Code of Conduct for Detainees, because he was illiterate and it could be easy to memorize things that he could express orally. But it is really difficult for him to memorize stylistic things, and it is even more difficult to get a punctuation mark wrong. Because he couldn't recite the "Code of Conduct for Detainees", he suffered a lot in other prison numbers, and every day he went through his cutscenes (beatings and other punishments), and when he was transferred to our prison number, he still couldn't recite it. When the boss finished reciting the request, his cold sweat clearly flowed out.
With regard to the Code of Conduct for Detainees, I would like to make a note here. I still don't know if it's the demands of the prison authorities or the bosses of the prisons, but everyone who enters the detention center must memorize the Code of Conduct for Detainees. "Norms" is quite long, I don't believe it clearly, it's about 36 articles, and newcomers are generally required to memorize it within three days, and it's not easy to memorize it, and ordinary people can memorize it in three days, but some people can't, like Yang Dayuan, who is illiterate.
Although Mr. Yang did not recite the "Code of Conduct for Detainees", the boss did not embarrass him, but only asked for time to speed up the recital. Next, the boss asked some questions about how to do it in the number, these questions were not difficult for Mr. Yang, he was thinking about how to win the favor of the pulse all day long, and of course he had a deep understanding of how to do it.
This trial will last a long time, and there will be a lot of content, and it will be very difficult to really write it down bit by bit, and I will forget a lot of things. At this trial, I had a preliminary understanding of Mr. Yang, and I began to get to know him from here about his personal situation and his crimes.
What I remember most about this trial is Mr. Yang's self-confidence.
When the Shunmai people asked him about his crime, they all warned him with anxiety, asking him to be mentally prepared that he might have to go on a road of no return this time. In the admonition, Yang Dayuan was very calm, he told Banmaizi (equivalent to Shunmaizi, Banmaizi is slightly higher than Shunmaizi, Banmaizi is in charge, Shunmaizi doesn't care) that he will not be sentenced to death, he firmly believes that the robbery he committed, two people have been targeted, and one has been sentenced to life, the case has long been closed, although he is one of the main culprits, he did not kill people, he will not be sentenced to death, he gave himself the expected sentence of 15 years. Seeing that Yang was so confident, they no longer felt that he was very professional. The illusion of pity quickly vanished.
That night, Yang Dayuan's sleeping gear changed, and his sleeping gear was arranged before me, that is, his position in the prison number surpassed mine, although his status surpassed mine, he did not have the power to give instructions to me, he was just a water vein.
Yang Dayuan's boarding, may be one of the few times in his life, he takes it very seriously, joy is on his face, he is more attentive to the veins, more harsh on others, although he has no substantive power, but he keeps giving instructions to other people in the lower bunk, and he doesn't care whether people listen to him or not, his ignorant desire for power is very heavy, in fact, no one in the lower bunk pays attention to him, including me, there is a mentality, all want to find an opportunity to beat him.
Mr. Yang is a smart man, and he knows that he can't make a bad relationship with me. When I first asked about Yang's case, he asked me in surprise:
"You don't know about my case?"
I said I don't know. He said
"Are you mixed in society, you don't know about such an earth-shattering case, the train station robbery and murder case."
I still can't remember. I don't care much about this kind of thing in society, I don't know anything about it. He may have thought that he had done such a big deal, and he was very proud, and there was a proud light in his eyes, waiting for me to say words of appreciation, but I didn't say it, and after a while, his eyes turned into a look of regret again. I don't think I'm a mixed bag, and I don't deserve to talk to a "hero" like him.
In the later conversations with Mr. Yang, I learned more about his case. His case was closed two years ago, and three consecutive cases have been punished, and Mr. Yang absconded after the incident, and was only arrested more than seven months later. His personal trial took place not long ago, and he is now awaiting sentencing. He hoped that the sentence would be down and that he would serve his sentence in prison as soon as possible, and he thought it would be better to serve his sentence in prison than here.
About 10 days after the trial meeting, I transferred out this prison number, because I had a dispute with Banmaizi, and I suffered a loss in the dispute, and then I was pulled out by the cadres and beaten two "bullwhips", these two "bullwhips" were the first and last beatings in my life in prison, and the beating was definitely not right, because the object of my dispute was the person the cadre wanted to cover, and I had some jealousy, and this jealousy continued until I was released from prison, and probably forever.
I left this prison without saying goodbye to anyone. After the cadres carried out the "education" activities on me, they put me in the prison next door to the prison number.
My life was a disaster, but I still had a certain amount of luck, although the cadre who "educated" me sent a secret message to the new prisoner: greet him well. Despite the message from the old prison and the new prison to "take care" of me, I did meet a good boss.
It's half a month in a flash. This morning, we were meditating in the prison when a voice called for Yang from the next prison door. After staying in the detention center for a long time, I knew that something was going to happen when I heard the voice of the call. Of course, the Shun people of the new prison number all know about Yang Dayuan, and they all know that Yang Dayuan's court verdict has come down just like me.
The boss of the prison number ordered someone to pounce on the ground and look out through the crack in the door of the ground, and the person who threw himself on the ground said: "Senior Yang has been taken out of the prison number and walked past our door. The Shunmaizi began to analyze the situation, and they said that the general verdict is not to take the prisoner out to get it, but to pass it in through the wind gate, and most of the people who go out to get the verdict are major. Everyone agreed: Yang Dayuan is more than lucky. The people in the prison were talking while waiting for Senior Yang to come back.
About half an hour later, there was a sound in the hallway, a terrible sound to hear, the sound of shackles mopping the floor, and hearing this sound made it feel like death was approaching. Someone threw himself at the crack in the door and looked out, and said:
"It's him, Senior Yang is back, he's handcuffed and shackled."
Mr. Yang was sentenced to death. After Mr. Yang dragged his shackles and walked outside the door of the prison number, there was no sound of discussion in the prison number, and everyone was thinking about the two questions of life and death, and the silence in the prison number was a little suffocating at this time. This feeling of suffocation extended into the next morning.
After 8 o'clock in the morning of the next day, a cadre opened the door of the prison and took the boss out.
The boss of the prison number is often taken out by the cadres, and everyone will not think about what happened on this day, because every time the boss is taken out, the boss will not say what the cadre and the boss say. The boss left, and those of us who were sitting in the wind field began to seek to talk to the person next door, and the Shunmaizi raised their voices and connected with the next door, and Li Ke spoke first:
"Mr. Yang, we all feel sorry for you, brother, live your last days."
Then the other Banmai also began to shout to Yang Dayuan. Not long after I entered the new prison number, I had already entered the third gear, and it was also a board vein, and I didn't shout to the next door, because the board veins of the prison number still hated me, and I could only calm down and listen to them.
There was a voice from next door, the voice was very hoarse, it may be that he didn't close his eyes all night last night, he didn't expect that he would be sentenced to death, he couldn't accept this kind of sentence. Luckily, he was able to talk to us, and I think he survived the saddest hurdle.
The boss goes out for a longer time. When he returned, the call between the supervisor and the next door had not yet ended, and as he walked towards us, he pointed his finger at the next door and shook his head. We understood what he meant, and we consciously stopped talking, waiting for the boss to sit on his "throne" and then convey the spirit of the cadre to me.
After the boss sat down, he smiled bitterly, and smiled bitterly for a while before saying:
"The cadres wanted to transfer Senior Yang to our prison number, and he discussed with me and gave me a day to consider."
After the boss finished speaking, everyone fell into deep thought.
