The success of prison reform

Prisons are generally not well conceived in people's minds because they are places where bad people are managed.

Everyone in society feels how far away they are from that place, so far away that they don't need to know about it. However, in fact, the prison is about itself.

First of all, there is no guarantee that they will not go to jail for the rest of their lives. Those who drove into a traffic accident definitely didn't expect to end up in jail. Those corrupt people never thought they would go to jail. Those bigamists didn't expect to go to jail either.......

Maybe we made a very unintentional mistake that day by accident, and it could have taken us to jail.

Secondly, those who return to society after prison, if they become more harmful to society, the personal harm caused by this harm may not be themselves. Because of this, we have reason to care about this place.

The prison after the reform of the system is indeed commendable. To make an obvious comparison, when I was only in prison in 2003, many prisoners told me that they would have to do it after they got out, and they wanted to get their money back. In 2009, when I was serving my sentence, many prisoners told me that they planned to do a good job when they went out, and it was no fun to go to prison again.

For such a general comparison, I think, as a reader, you may be able to see that the prison reform has been successful.

My evaluation of prison reform is based on my personal experience of serving my sentence in Lianhuayuan Prison. If it is an example, I would first like to thank the leadership team and all the police officers of Lianhuayuan Prison.

However, I have also heard from prisoners who have been transferred to Lianhuayuan from other prisons that their prisons are also being reformed, but there are still many aspects of their prisons that are the same as in the past. In any case, I believe that the harmonious spring breeze blows all over the land of Shenzhou and into the prisons of the whole country.

In 2003, when I was imprisoned, Lianhuayuan Prison was a prison dominated by agriculture, and the prison had 40,000 acres of land, which was cultivated by only 1,000 inmates.

40,000 acres of land in some towns and villages are the same, and the amount of labor paid by a thousand prisoners can be imagined.

The largest piece of land in Lianhuayuan Prison is called 800 acres (because his area is 800 acres), and when you stand at one end of the field and look at the other, the trees at the other end of the field become as small as grass.

Whenever the summer is the hottest, the peanut ripening season, the prisoners are like soldiers in the charging position, one by one falling in the field, the heat, thirst, and tiredness make all the prisoners feel that they are walking at the limit of life, because the resistance is constantly hot, they fell because of heat stroke, I would like to remember the peanut field in the former prison, I also fell there.

Whenever it was time to plant seedlings, the prisoners' fingers were exposed to the bones, and in some years, they had to plant seedlings for more than 20 days in a row, and they could not rest day and night. When the prisoners returned, many of them could not find their beds.

There is also a kind of cotton, pulling the cotton stem for one day will make your waist not straight, but the next day you have to insist on pulling it.

There is no rest time for agricultural work, and the only time that can be rested is when it rains heavily, and it is impossible to go out, and light rain cannot stop the work order. Agricultural work is greedy early and late, and the health of prisoners is not guaranteed because of labor.

There are also two brick factories in Lianhuayuan Prison. The amount of labor in the brick factory was also very large, and the living expenses of the former criminals were not included in the treasury. Criminals must be as productive as possible. The excessive labor of the brick factory, like agricultural labor, also has to endure the hazards of high temperature and dust, and the life of the criminals is also very hard.

In 2006, the production structure of the prison was completely transformed, at this time, all the agricultural labor of the convicts had been abolished, the brick factories were also withdrawn, all the convicts entered the modern steel structure processing workshop to engage in manual labor, the working time was limited, and the convicts had a symbolic labor wage (I took a monthly salary of five yuan for three years, a total of 180 yuan), and the convicts in the production line, some of the highest wages received 200 yuan (a record).

In any case, the structure of production and the form of wage incentives in prisons today are not available before, which is a great step forward and quite remarkable.

A simple comparison is also used to prove the success of prison reform.

In 2009, the first few years after I left prison, I rarely saw fights, and the later I went, the fewer they were, especially in '08 and '09, the fights almost disappeared in my eyes.

What is the force that makes the prison so peaceful is that the inclusion of humane management plays a role.

I don't know if it was the year after 2003, the state promulgated the prison police*.This ban on inmates is not open to inmates, and soon after it was issued, I was surprised to see that there is a clause in it: it is forbidden to beat and scold inmates with corporal punishment.

It may be that the prisoners are not allowed to know according to the regulations, or it may be that the distribution of this ban is not conducive to the management of the prison guards, which can be ignored. Anyway, from that time on, the phenomenon of prison guards beating and cursing prisoners with corporal punishment was rare, and by 09, this phenomenon had almost disappeared.

In the first two years of my release, the inmates were able to have casual conversations with some of the prison guards, and even joke about them.

As the saying goes, what you get, what you pay is what you give, to put it more clearly, that is, you get melons when you plant melons, and you get beans when you plant beans. The humanized management of the prison guards has made the prisoners understand the humanized communication between people, and the fists and forces appear ignorant and low in the face of humanization, and the prisoners have learned to coexist peacefully under the influence of humanized management.

In the former prison, the oppression of life was unbearable for the inmates. Tired, yelling...... The physical and psychological stress caused by the offender is enormous. A mentally normal prisoner can also have the idea of escaping.

Later in my sentence, I always told the new inmates what I thought when I was in prison, and I told them that at that time, I was thinking about escaping, and I was scanning my surroundings with my eyes every day, and I was using my braincase as a plan of action every day.

The new inmates didn't believe that a mild-mannered man would have that kind of thought, and when I compared the prison past with the present, they believed that I had that kind of thought.

At that time, not only did I have that idea, but probably many people did. In the days before I completed my sentence, I asked a prisoner who was dissatisfied with the verdict and was appealing: "Do you want to run away?" "

The prisoner said cheerfully to me, "Let's go."

His cheerfulness convinced me that although he was not satisfied with his sentence, he could bear the reality of serving his sentence. I think that if you put it in the past, a person who is not satisfied with the verdict and is suffering both physical and mental damage, if he does not want to escape, it is not normal.

In 2003, the state incorporated psychoeducation and psychological rehabilitation into the content of prison rehabilitation of criminals. Although the prison counselors in my eyes seem young and inexperienced, their work does make a difference to those who are seriously ill.

Psychology believes that everyone living in the world has psychological disorders and mental illnesses, but it is just a matter of how many. Prison criminals, their criminal behavior is only a certain aspect of the psychology of the wrong inflated, the direct use of psychological collusion to treat criminals, this is undoubtedly a major progress in prison reform.

Not all inmates see prison reform as a step forward.

There are a few inmates who are reluctant to carry out this kind of reform, and this kind of people are those who have rolled too many boards and have a good life in the former prisons, where they enjoy all kinds of privileges and are not restricted from eating, drinking, and merrymaking.

One of the inmates who was serving my sentence with the surname Zhou said to me, "You are working very hard to make the drum now. I sat on the head board for two years, and not only did I eat and drink, but when I was sentenced, I also brought back more than 10,000 yuan."

What he said was true.

In the past, the board veins not only enjoyed privileges, but also could get oil and water from the criminals, and the black ones had to make a lot of money, and their income was even higher than that of the white-collar workers in the society. The prisons of the past have indeed applauded some people, and these people are the cell bosses of the past.

Before the full sentence, the prison carried out an activity to crack down on cell bosses, which was a completely formalistic activity, very simple, there were no cell bosses in Lianhuayuan Prison at all. It's just that the "hide and seek" incident in a detention center in Yunnan triggered the rectification of the national judicial system. I don't know how common it is to kill people in other places, but in the case of Lianhuayuan Prison, this situation is and will certainly never exist today.

I can't personally experience the reform of other prisons other than Lianhuayuan Prison. However, I always see the news from the newspapers or get the news from the mouths of the cadres, and some places of supervision are not optimistic.

The year before, I heard a new prisoner say that his brother was serving a sentence in a prison in the provincial capital, and his mobile phone was on his body, and he could call casually, I couldn't believe it, this was not allowed by the system, and it was also reasonably not allowed. At least, as a criminal who has hurt others and been harmed by himself, he also needs to keep a quiet when he comes to prison to serve his sentence.

By a month before I was sentenced, I believed. An inmate in a prison who was imprisoned for fraud continued to use his mobile phone to commit fraud in prison, defrauding hundreds of thousands of yuan in cash and materials.

Because of this incident, the Prison Department has carried out a campaign to strictly check contraband in various prisons. This activity is another formality in our prison, not because the prison is not deep, but because there is no contraband in the prison.

The reform of the Lianhuayuan prison is convincing. Because of the norms of the system, there are basically no prisoners with special licenses in prisons, and there are no prisoners with special licenses, and there are no gang forces in the prison group. Once there is a special license, and the prisoner of the special license is a very bad person, then the prisoner of the special license will use money to support a large group of people, and this large group of people will form a gang of forces. With powerful gangs, there is the phenomenon of bullying other prisoners, and the prison is "black".

The success of the reform of Lianhuayuan Prison is also reflected in various small aspects.

In 2006, I wrote an article called . This article participated in the bureau essay contest and unexpectedly won the second prize. This article is about my real inner feelings, and I narrate the great progress of prison civilization from the small perspective of shaving my head.

In 2003, when I was in prison for the first time, I saw the special tools used by the shaver. Before I got to prison, I heard Duoban in the number talk about this tool, and it was quite terrible. And the tool used for shaving is the old-fashioned two-sided razor holder, the blade is mounted on the knife holder in a very exposed form, looking at the cold light shining, the head has not been shaved, the heart is cold.

The person who shaves the head must have superb skills, otherwise, if you shave your head down, you will not have to make many cuts on your head, even if you are a skilled person, it will inevitably not make your head bleed.

The first time I shaved my head, I was shoveled off by a very blunt blade, and although my head didn't bleed, it hurt more than bleeding.

The second time I shaved my head, there were countless bloody cuts on my head, there were two large cuts on the top of my neck, and one cut took more than a month to grow, and I blame my little life for being good, any one of the two cuts is crooked a little bit, my carotid artery will definitely be cut.

During the first three years of my prison sentence, I was afraid to shave my head.

In 2006, the head shaving tools in prisons were changed, and electric clippers replaced razors. Shaving your head is no longer a sin.

There are many other small aspects of the success of prison reform. In the past, I couldn't drink boiled water, but now with a water boiler, I can drink boiled water at any time. I haven't taken a hot bath in the past, and I haven't washed it in winter, but now I can take it once a week. In the past, when eating in the open air, there were no tables and stools, and they squatted on the ground to eat, but now they have a canteen and a dining table.......

The great success of prison reform is a great contribution of prisons to society. Under the tolerant and harmonious prison policy, the inmates learn to respect themselves and love themselves, and also learn to care for others, and the thinking of the inmates has been changed for the better, and when they return to society, they will be harmless to the society, harmless to the surroundings, and harmless to themselves.

Of course, in my eyes, there are still some areas of improvement in prison. It is believed that in the near future, inmates will feel that some unfair and unreasonable phenomena that still exist will disappear completely.
