Volume 1 Chapter 90 Mosquito Repellent Water
In August, the temperature was getting hotter, and the hot weather canceled and postponed many of my plans, and even most of my usual energy on crops was transferred to the sea.
Thanks to the good growth of sweet potato vines and greens, they can basically meet the food needs of sheep, and the fact that I don't have to mow the grass is the biggest boon for me!
Recently, the frequency of fishing and catching seafood has increased, so that the storage of various seafood has greatly increased, and even the dried kelp has more than 50 catties at home, and occasionally you can pick up a few coconuts in the woods to have a good time.
If there is a refrigerator, life will be even more perfect if you can drink frozen coconut water!
It's just that there are good and bad, cooking every day has become quite a painful thing, almost all over the body is covered with a layer of sweat after a meal, if it weren't for the fear of starvation, I don't even want to eat, let alone cook.
Recently, green vegetables and sweet potato leaves can be eaten, and the combination of meat and vegetables can make the food less monotonous, at least it hasn't made me have an aversion to food!
In addition, the oyster sauce, which had been interrupted for a while, was remade in four or five bottles in the past two days, which re-enhanced the taste of the food, which was barely there.
Even so, I also wanted to start with as little fire as possible and focus on cold dishes.
Not only do you not want to cook in this season, but you also don't want to eat hot food, often sweating after a meal, and sweating on your body after eating a meal, which is extremely speechless!
......
Of course, the time when I was forced to stay at home in the heat was not idle, I was sewing a sheepskin coat and sheepskin pants from the sheepskin that I had made before, although there were still many months before winter, but I just had time to make it in advance.
I used to abandon the sweater that was knitted with rope, because it was quite annoying because of its abrasive properties, and it wore out badly throughout the winter.
Of the two or three pieces of clothing obtained on the ship, two of them are almost worn, and there is no way to lose too quickly in terms of clothing in such an environment, and if you don't pay attention to it, you will be torn a hole, or even a big hole!
That's why I'm going to make a suit out of two sheepskins, and I've slaughtered six or seven sheep in the last two years, and all but the first one has a lot of holes.
It is more than enough to divide two pieces to make a set of clothes, a blanket and three or four sheepskins are quite warm, and the excess is wasted if it is idle!
The production method of sheepskin clothing is also exquisite, and the wool needs to be on the inside of the clothes to keep warm, so that there will be no serious hair loss during daily use.
You must know that my daily life is accompanied by strenuous exercise and friction, especially when I go to the woods and some construction projects, and the wool of the sheepskin is estimated to be ground into a piece of paper in less than ten days and half a month!
Two sheepskins are dismantled and repaired, not to mention that the clothes made are not so interesting, at least many modifications are quite fitting, and there is no need to worry about the problem of keeping warm, just wear it on the body for a minute and almost cover the sweat.
In addition, I also updated the main household utensils, including baskets, shoes, hats, straw mats, etc., which do not have a long lifespan due to materials and craftsmanship.
Some of them can be regarded as supernormal until now, but it is definitely a better choice to have time to update them all.
In addition, two straw hats were woven from the long leaves of the straw mat, and it was not very comfortable to weave a hat with grass and leaves every time I went out, and the hat was too heavy, so it was lighter to go out every day with a straw hat.
......
The mango is ripe, and after a long year of waiting, I can finally eat the delicious mango again, and this is what makes me happiest at this time of year.
Although summer is annoying, summer ripe mangoes are my favorite!
This year's yield is not very satisfactory, the only tree that bears fruit in the past only bears 70 or 80 fruits, but another mango tree has begun to bear fruit this year, and there are more than 10 fruits, which adds up to almost 100 seeds.
Thankfully, I've been keeping an eye on its growth and predicting when it will ripen, otherwise I'll miss it perfectly, just like last year's mango.
This year's mango is the same as the original pineapple, it may be that the drought has hurt the root, and the size and moisture are worse than the fruit of previous years, if a fruit in previous years has half a catty, this year's is only three to four taels!
Fortunately, the harvest was not lost due to the original drought, it had already bloomed before the drought began, and it had pea-sized fruit at the beginning, but the drought at that time did cause a lot of fruit loss, otherwise this year's mango harvest would have been a good harvest.
......
The process of picking mangoes was very pleasant, and in the process of going to another small mango tree, I made a great discovery, I didn't expect to find a new tree species--- eucalyptus.
I'm sure I've passed by it at least five times in the past few years on the island, but I haven't noticed it until this time I came to pick mangoes.
The process of discovery is a little strange, I didn't pay attention to the road when I walked, I tripped over a stone and almost fell, if it wasn't for this tree for me to hold on to my hands, I would definitely fall directly to the ground, and I found something strange when I was holding this tree.
The eucalyptus tree has a white-gray trunk in color, slender and straight, and there are quite a few such trees on the island, most of which are straight and slender, so it is not unreasonable to ignore it.
Suddenly I realized that there was more than this one on the island, and there were at least dozens of eucalyptus trees I saw, and at this time I was secretly regretting my carelessness, this kind of tree that belonged to a treasure to me was actually discovered when I was on the island for three or four years!
Eucalyptus is not a good plant, it is also called "overlord tree", not only after planting it, the fertility of the land will be basically sucked away by it, but also the groundwater will be destroyed by it.
But these are not problems for me, and I hope that it will absorb more fertility from the woods, so that the woods will become more sparse and I can move around the forest more easily.
One of its major functions is papermaking, in addition to the bark, the entire trunk can be broken and used to make paper, it seems that the bark used for papermaking in the future will choose a part of the bark of eucalyptus, and the unit yield should be increased.
Another big function is eucalyptus leaves, which is what I value most about this tree, boiling eucalyptus leaves can cure many diseases, and it can also effectively prevent the flu.
It also produces eucalyptus oil, something I've been desperate to get now when I discovered eucalyptus!
......
Of course, there are many varieties of eucalyptus, and there are several of the hundreds of trees on the island that I have classified in my mind, and the only one that can refine eucalyptus oil is lemon eucalyptus, and there seem to be only two or three of them, which is quite rare.
Eucalyptus oil is effective in relieving influenza, bronchitis and other respiratory diseases; In addition, dropping eucalyptus oil into bath water also has good bactericidal properties, so it is often used as a raw material for hygiene products such as soap and perfume.
It is also commonly used to treat bruises and skin conditions, and additionally helps relieve mental fatigue, muscle pain, and fatigue.
It is also effective against mosquito bites and is a good mosquito repellent, and adding a few drops of eucalyptus oil to warm water can be used as a mouthwash to treat a sore throat.
There are many of these functions, in addition to being used to treat various diseases, the main function I want is to repel mosquitoes, even if there are not many mosquitoes on the island, but I don't need too many to sleep at night, just one can make people sleep!
Although I haven't mentioned it, I have been suffering from mosquitoes for a long time......
Being able to find eucalyptus today undoubtedly gave me a solution, which is to refine eucalyptus oil.
Refining eucalyptus oil by hand is quite cumbersome, most commonly distillation, but I didn't want that cumbersome process because I didn't need much.
Eucalyptus leaves are basically evergreen, so you can pick them again after you use them, this time only one or two handfuls, and you can boil half a pot of water.
The process of making can no longer be described simply, it is simply a convenient thing, directly throwing eucalyptus leaves into a clay pot and boiling half a pot of water, until only half a bowl is left, and then stop the fire.
At this time, the concentration is quite high, and it has basically played a role in repelling mosquitoes, after all, eucalyptus oil has been boiled into the water.
Smelling the smell of the water, not to mention, there is really that kind of light-hearted feeling, which instantly makes the whole person feel refreshed!
In order to better call it, I decided to call it eucalyptus oil, although it is still far from the real eucalyptus oil, and the purity is even worse than 108,000 miles, but I don't care about it, I just want to be happy.
......
Half a bowl of eucalyptus oil was filtered out with a cloth and then put into a flower water bottle that I had picked up at the beach, just enough for it to spray spray, which perfectly matched the function of mosquito repellent water.
Although I subjectively feel that there is no problem with its use to repel mosquitoes, the fact is that it can only be concluded after practice, so it is not advisable to be too happy too early and try it at night.
However, for the small problem of itching after being bitten by mosquitoes, it does feel cold after spraying a little, and it has a considerable effect!
At night......
There are definitely a lot of mosquitoes flying in the air at night this season, and the "buzzing" sound is always annoying, even after a few years on the island.
Of course, it can't be said that you are used to it, you will still be woken up when there are mosquitoes, and you will still grow a big bag when you bite it, but you can't bear it because you can't help it, and now you finally don't have to endure it.
Soon after I lay down, there was a nasty buzzing sound in the room again, but because there was no light at night, I had to spray the bottle that was not far away into the air until I felt like the bed was getting wet with the water spraying out.
At this time, there is a little apprehension, if this effect is not good, I may have to endure mosquito harassment in the future, and I can only do nothing about it at night like a blind man!
It turns out that my limited knowledge is life-changing again, and the crude eucalyptus oil has an effect, and I don't know if it can kill the mosquitoes, but at least they were successfully driven out of the house.
Mosquitoes are common during the warmer months, and after October they are rare, and I can finally get a good night's sleep most of the summer, especially during the busy few times, and having a good night's sleep can also improve my productivity!
I had a good night's sleep, and in the morning I took a few drops in the water to rinse my mouth, and it felt very different, and my breath was much fresher than before.
After seeing the various effects of eucalyptus oil, I went to the woods again, picked a whole basket, and filled four one-pound plastic bottles before stopping, which I should use until next year!
