Volume 1 Chapter 80 Rainy Season
The busy days finally changed in early December, and I had more free time to do whatever I wanted every day!
However, the days ended with rain less than two days later, and the rain lasted much longer than I expected, and the "good weather" label I had given this year was decisively nullified.
I don't know if I offended God or what the reason is, it has been raining a lot in recent months, and this rain has been falling with no intention of stopping completely.
In the first two days, I think it was no different from the usual rain, and every day was big and small, and it was fun to stop for a while.
But it rained for four or five days in a row, which made people a little irritated, because I had no weather forecast at all, so I could only stay in my room every day and watch the rain outside.
I was always looking forward to the rain stopping, but the rain never stopped......
Fortunately, the greens are basically grown, and a small amount of sweet potatoes are barely enough for the sheep to eat, otherwise it will be raining in the winter to cut grass in the woods, and the taste is really hateful!
When I was bored at home, I started to make some simple tools that I usually need, as well as modify some of the tools I used, such as a wooden spatula for stir-frying, and a long stick on a hoe and shovel to reshape.
Taking advantage of the absence of rain, I collected a lot of vines and made a more sophisticated back basket, and I improved and remade all kinds of objects that I can use in daily life.
It's just that I still haven't looked forward to a sunny day, and it's already the tenth day of rain!
Every day, except for feeding sheep and chickens, most of them can only stay in the room, although they are bored, but fortunately, they don't need to get drenched in the rain.
The boring but idle days that persist to this day are coming to an end, and all the firewood in the kitchen has been burned, and if you don't go out to solve this problem, you can only eat raw sweet potatoes to satisfy your hunger.
......
In the drizzle, I had to go to a distant cave and carry a few large bundles of dry firewood stored in it to solve the crisis, but the amount in it was not too much, and it could only provide me with firewood for a week at most.
So while bringing back the dry firewood inside, I had to go to the woods to find the previously dry and wet firewood to dry, collect it and pile it up in the cave, and after a few days of air drying and evaporating most of the water vapor, it was barely usable!
Rainy weather is always the most annoying, the outside is wet at any time, the ground is muddy, go out and walk a few steps not only on the feet, even the legs are thin mud, every time you go out in the winter, you have to wash with water, it is quite sour!
On the twenty-third day, the sky finally cleared, and if it continued to rain, the whole person had a feeling of mold, and the long-lost sun finally sprinkled the ground again.
I didn't care about anything else, the first thing I did was to go out to find firewood, all the dry firewood in the cave was consumed, and the wet firewood I picked up behind was not good, and it was barely able to ignite after a few days of air-drying, but it was difficult to have as much dry firewood!
The rare sunny weather is a good opportunity for me to collect firewood, pile it on the drying field and receive the sun's rays, and it will be completely dry in two or three days, I don't want to collect wet firewood on a rainy day, and every time I come back, I will be soaked with rain and dew!
What I didn't expect was that this time the sunny weather only lasted for more than a day, and it rained again the next night......
At this time, I was only sad in my heart, when will this rain end!
Fortunately, the firewood I picked up can at least guarantee my use for about a week, and with the part collected when it rains in the cave, I believe that I can ensure at least ten days of use, and this rain should not be able to rain for another ten days.
When I was at home, I started to sew a pair of socks out of the excess fabric I had picked up, and the recent continuous cooling has caused the temperature to drop so much that I have begun to "freeze my hands and feet", and in some cases I will use a clay pot to burn a pot of charcoal to increase the temperature in the room.
......
The rain did not stop for a week, and on the seventh day I went out to the cave to get firewood, and at the same time I had to go out to the woods to look for wet firewood.
The rain kept falling, and this time it took more than half a month to end, and the total time lasted for nearly forty days before the sun was seen again, and now all kinds of things in the house were as if they had just been fished out of the water, extremely damp.
Although I don't have to worry too much about all aspects now, I really haven't done anything except feed the sheep and chickens every day in the past 40 days, and if it is normal weather, I can at least get a few hundred catties of fish out of the fish pond.
At the same time, I didn't contribute, but I almost consumed the firewood, the fish and mutton in the fish pond, and the cornmeal at home, and the time I had nothing to do at home seemed to be studying and eating day by day!
But it's not wrong to think about it the other way, what can you do if you don't study what to eat, and you have to be idle at home every day!
Fortunately, there is no problem with food and shelter now, if it is the first year when you go to the island and encounter this kind of rain that lasts for more than a month, it is estimated that you will not even be able to light a fire, and you can only starve to death in the end!
Originally, I thought that this winter would be a very pleasant winter, with occasional fishing and sunbathing days, but I didn't expect it to be like this!
The day after the rain, the sun finally appeared again, so I quickly took out the few clothes I had and all the woolen blankets and other clothes to dry, and rinsed the drying area with clean water and dried the corn and peanuts on the ground.
It is no exaggeration to say that if you put your hand into the clay bowl containing corn and stir it a few times, your hand will feel like it has just stayed on the steam for five seconds, and there will be a lot of water vapor with it, and it will have to be dried again.
While dealing with all kinds of items at home, I also want to restore the huge consumption of various items to normal levels as soon as possible, including firewood, fish, charcoal and cornmeal.
.......
In the previous two winters, even if I didn't wear warm clothes, I barely had a fire, but during this time, I couldn't stop the car after grilling the fire with charcoal at home, and almost used up all the charcoal in the house!
It's a very enjoyable experience indeed, and what could be more comfortable than hiding away from home for a fire in a cold and rainy winter......
In my free time, I was going to expand the area of the chicken pen a little more, but after a few months of testing the area of five or six square meters, I came to the conclusion that it was not very satisfactory.
More than a month of rain has interrupted my usual action to clean up the difficult feces, and now it looks quite unbearable to look at it inside, and I am afraid that I will not even be able to eat if I stay for a while.
Even if I usually clean up every few days, the chicken manure on the ground is full of people who have nowhere to put their feet, and the eggs I usually pick up are dirty, and I don't have the desire to pick them up, all these factors have prompted me to expand the area!
The area of the chicken pen is relatively small at this time, and the structure is not complicated, and there are only about a dozen wooden stakes left after removing the fishing nets, but before that, I need to prepare a sufficient number of suitable wooden stakes.
Then I went inside and tied up all the chickens and lifted them out, and in just a few minutes after entering, I was almost poisoned by the smell inside, and it seems that the chicken manure inside should be cleaned up before proceeding to the next step.
Finally, some of the existing piles were removed and then driven into the ground according to the new planned area, this time the area was much larger, twice as large as at the beginning, that is, almost 15 square meters.
After it is done, there is no problem at all to feed more than ten chickens, but the previous fishing nets can only be used for capping due to the length problem, and the remaining fishing nets need to be used on the side to be competent.
The chicken pen is the most worry-free thing in my opinion, and it only took more than half a day to do it again, and the pheasants that were tied up outside returned to the pen.
......
The pheasant has an even more honorable mission recently!
From today onwards, I will collect and store the eggs every day, and when there are more than 10 of them, I will hatch a litter of chicks to expand the scale of breeding.
Now the number of six chickens can't keep up with me, and I haven't been able to eat a bite of chicken for so long.
My idea is to start next year, and occasionally slaughter a pheasant to replace the mutton, so as to increase the supply of fresh meat and change the taste.
Compared to fish and lamb, chicken is still very nutritious, and the most obvious example is chicken soup as the first thing that comes to mind when you are sick or supplemented!
This is also conducive to the survival of the fittest, when the number reaches a certain level, the old chickens and small problems can be disposed of without distress, when the number is too small, even if its role is small, but not too reluctant......
After the chicken pen was built, I also started fishing and collecting firewood, fish and firewood are resources that are in urgent need recently, and even the seafood is less than ten catties left!
Seeing that there is only about half a month left before the Chinese New Year, all kinds of problems have come out, and after nearly a year of use, there is not much paper left at home, and salt and oyster sauce are also in urgent need of replenishment.
I have to say that this rain really delayed me too much, and if it wasn't for this rainy season, these problems would not be a problem, and they would have been solved a long time ago.
The first thing to do is to collect suitable bark and soak in the water, but the difference this time is that I soaked directly in the pool, and now it is idle anyway.
Then I started going to the beach to boil salt and collect oysters, and to grind cornmeal, which I had done many times with almost no accidents.
While collecting oysters, I also picked up a lot of conch and other unnamed seafood at the beach, which was a good choice for the recent tooth festival.
I was kept busy, and it didn't end until the end of January......
Another problem is also very tangled, now there are four adult sheep in the sheepfold, one of which is a ram, three ewes, and four lambs this year, but from the point of view of body shape, these four sheep are not much different from adult sheep, and they weigh at least fifty pounds or more.
Such a number is very embarrassing, it is estimated that killing sheep before the New Year will definitely stump me, adult rams must be kept, three ewes I see that there are lambs in the stomach and I am reluctant to kill.
The four underage sheep can't produce much meat when they look at it, and it seems that they have to wait for the Chinese New Year to seriously consider this complicated matter, and now they feel a headache when they think about it!
