Volume 1 Chapter 74 Kelp
It's time to start making bricks again, and I want to use a few hours in the morning and evening to make a kiln of bricks first.
Because the gap in bricks is still very huge, not only is it necessary to build a house, but I also plan to closely pave a layer of bricks outside the house to make a hardened ground with an area of dozens of square meters.
In fact, it is a drying field, that is, the dam that will be hardened with cement at the door of every household in the countryside, which is particularly convenient to put things or walk, especially when it rains, the shoes will not get wet.
Thinking of the embarrassment of drying corn and peanuts last year, I would love to make it before the corn is ripe!
In addition, there are some other needs that are not planned, so the gap in bricks is particularly large, and it is time to continue to make some emergencies after interrupting the brick production for three or four months.
The irritating problem is that the weather in July is so hot that even if you only use a few hours in the morning and evening, it will be unbearable!
Before making bricks, in order to prevent sunburn, I also made a large cloak, like carrying an umbrella without an umbrella handle on my head, although it is not convenient to work and move, but there is no way to protect the skin!
......
The official start was even more difficult than I imagined, and I was sweating like rain in just half an hour at the beginning, not only was it unbearably hot, but the adjusted mud was dry and unusable in less than a day!
Faced with such a situation, I can only choose to make it two days after each rain or when it is cloudy and cloudy, and the speed cannot be improved at all, and I can only make 15 to 200 pieces a day on average.
Even so, it is hot enough, if it is not for the reality of the situation, I would like to be in the house all day long, and now I only hate that I did not make a batch of bricks last month, and I regret it!
Although the process was full of hardships, the results were good, and by the end of July, 2,500 bricks had finally been made, and it was enough to fire one kiln.
Most of the surrounding open space is occupied by bricks, but the price is that I don't want to make any more bricks for the next kiln until the temperature drops significantly in September......
While the bricks were drying, the skins of the sheep killed last month were also disposed of, and the four skins were cleaned and dried and I sewed them into two woollen blankets.
Although the length of the two sewn together is not enough, and it still can't withstand the cold of winter alone, plus the other blanket obtained on the boat is enough to keep the island out of winter winter, which means that this winter finally said goodbye to sleeping on hay!
It's a great thing to celebrate, and it's something I dreamed of changing a long, long time ago!
It has been two years since I slept on the hay, and I have waited for two whole years to change this situation, even if this moment comes too late, I am still sincerely happy at the moment of change, and I don't have to clean up the grass residue on my body when I get up every day in the future!
......
Today I want to go to the sea to catch seafood, and the seafood at home has been exhausted after many days.
Although it is very hot in the summer season, you can sweat profusely at any time, but one of the benefits is that you can go to the sea to catch fish and seafood at any time.
It's just that when I prepared the tools before going to the sea, there was bad news, and after two years of regular use in the summer, the swimming ring finally couldn't hold the strike.
It's not a serious problem for me, but it's a pity.
It seemed that a replacement was again being found to accomplish similar work, and it seemed that there was no other choice but dry wood to do the job, so the original time to go to the sea was postponed by two hours.
It was difficult to see a piece of wood in two hours, but the new saw is extremely easy to use, mainly because the weather is too hot to prevent heat stroke, and it is necessary to rest for a few minutes every ten minutes.
The dry wood that replaces the swimming ring is half a meter long, about 30 centimeters in diameter, and the buoyancy is roughly equivalent to it......
The use of wooden stakes to swim rings did not have a big impact on me, it was just that I was not used to going ashore and into the sea at the beginning, and there was basically no problem working on the seabed.
Today's process is the same as before, the harvest is at a normal level, the only difference is that a new kind of seafood has been discovered!
Ahaha~~~ I found kombu!
Almost every time I go to the sea is the same area, but today is especially lucky.
At first, I thought it was a weed on the bottom of the sea, but when I got closer, it gave me a sense of déjà vu that I didn't react, after all, when I was a child, I would stew half a pot of kelp every Chinese New Year.
With curiosity, the next development is very reasonable, and the result is of course extremely exciting, and it is indeed kelp that has not been eaten for a long time!
Although it is not as surprising as it was at the beginning, a new food variety is still heart-pounding!
Kelp is a large marine brown algae plant that grows in seawater, and it is named kelp because of its flexibility, which is very nutritious and has it
Vegetables that have a certain dietary tonic effect.
Kelp is known as a "longevity vegetable", "a vegetable of the sea", and "a champion of iodine", so regular consumption is very beneficial to the body.
The salt I had eaten for a long time before I came to this island was iodized, and I hadn't consumed enough iodine for a long time before the fishing boat went ashore, and I was worried that I would get a big neck disease before I knew it!
Fortunately, the fishing boat brought eight packs of iodized salt to alleviate the situation, and the kelp was found at this time before the salt was used up, and I think it must be transshipment this year!
......
Kelp is high in iodine and protects against a variety of diseases, so it was a bit of a fantasy to get a new vegetable by accident......
But what I hold in my hand can't be faked, it's really not my fantasy for a while!
The only thing I'm worried about is the amount of kelp, if there are only a few plants, it's just a waste of joy, I don't have the ability to scale up this kind of seafood!
After being happy for a while, I went down to the bottom of the sea to continue to check the situation, and I was a little dumbfounded by what I found after spending more than half an hour, because I could say that I didn't know how much.
I don't even know how to explain this result. Because the edge of the shallow sea with a depth of two or three meters is about two or three acres, and the area is sparse and long.
Further ahead is the junction of the shallow sea and the deeper sea, and the depth in front is directly cliff-like, at least five to ten meters, which is no longer a zone that I can conquer!
The kelp is generally between 2 and 6 meters long, but there is still a lot of it at the deeper seabed, and I even think that the deep kelp extends to the shallow sea where I usually catch seafood.
The deeper kelp growth is better, but it is not easy to get it, if you are not afraid of death, you can only tear some of the long ones from the middle, and I can't reach the bottom of the sea at a depth of five to ten meters, and I can't withstand the water pressure alone!
Fortunately, there are quite a few in the shallow sea area, and there are three or four hundred plants by eye, and there will be at least tons of them when they are all collected, so there is no need to worry about the problem of too little production, even if it is used as a staple food twice a day, it is difficult to eat it all......
At the beginning of this trip, I caught about three or four catties of seafood, so I concentrated on finding and collecting kelp at the bottom of the sea.
However, this thing does take up a lot of space, and only five plants from the roots fill the whole hand, and it becomes extremely clumsy to carry a large bundle full of it in its arms, even swimming ashore.
This is also a good aspect, I only need to pick a few plants every time to ensure that I can eat it for a long time, and when I pick it, I still leave its roots on the bottom of the sea, and I am optimistic that it will continue to grow and provide me with a steady stream of food!
......
It took a lot of effort to get to the stake and swim to the shore, and after carrying the kelp and the stake, I was ready to go back with the kelp and a small amount of seafood.
If I had done before, I would have made two more trips to the sea to collect more kelp, but today I was so tired from going to the sea, and now I feel that it is difficult to even walk home, and every step is difficult!
Carrying it home was almost so tired that I just wanted to be paralyzed, and the excitement of just getting kombu was completely unreflected under the exhaustion, even if it was quite uncomfortable because of the dry sea, it did not change my determination to rest.
It wasn't until half an hour later that I felt some rejuvenated body, and first took a shower for myself, if it weren't for the kelp's delay, I should have been ashore in an hour, but today I was at the bottom of the sea for more than two hours!
The next step is to dispose of them, in addition to raising the seafood in clay pots, but also to dispose of the freshly obtained kelp, after all, it is better to make dried kelp if it is to be stored for a long time.
This step is extremely simple, that is, just spread it directly in a sunny place and dry it in the sun, and suddenly I feel that kelp is my ideal vegetable, except for the way to obtain it is a little laborious, other processing and preservation is simply not too worry-free!
In addition to leaving two or three catties of food in the last two days, the other plants have all been sunburned, at this time there is no need to worry about its shrinkage, anyway, it will return to its original shape before soaking it in water before eating.
Thanks to the very strong sunlight, the kelp that started drying yesterday morning has been completely dried at noon today, and then stuffed into a clay pot for preservation, which is perfect.
It's just that it doesn't look very conspicuous now, and yesterday's large bundle of fresh kelp is probably only three or four catties in my hand now, and it is still far from storing a certain amount......
After a night's rest to exhaust the fatigue of yesterday, in the afternoon I went to the sea again to collect more while the iron was hot, and I tried not to collect kelp again for a year.
After all, this season is still relatively leisurely, and when the temperature drops, it will be very busy again, and even the sea will be canceled after the temperature drops!
This time I didn't spend more than half an hour catching seafood like yesterday, and I only wanted to make the harvest even bigger for the purpose of kelp, and I got about 100 catties back and forth three times, which is simply a profitable business......
On the third day, I went to the sea again and got nearly 100 catties, and with the amount of more than 200 catties, I don't plan to go through the trouble of collecting kelp for the time being, although it tastes good, but it is very oil-intensive!
About half of the three or four acres of kelp in the shallow sea area has not been looted by me, but at this time I think of an idiom called "contentment and happiness", and I am very satisfied to get so much.
