Volume 2 Chapter 160 Sea Intestines

At the beginning of September, several days of rain disrupted my plans, and I had to be locked in my room, having to pass the time by knitting clothes.

Originally, I thought that this rain would pass in only three to five days, but its staying power is beyond imagination, and it has been raining for a week without any intention of stopping!

On the 10th day of continuous rain, I think there may be a slight reduction in yields for crops that have not yet been harvested, such as sweet potatoes, even if not too severe.

At this time, I already had a similar feeling when I was facing a two-month drought, and I was worried that the rain would have a serious impact for too long, but then I thought that only the sweet potatoes in the field were more important, and the other crops were not very concerned, so I was relieved.

On the twentieth day, the rain was still falling, but much lighter and intermittent than at the beginning.

Even so, sweet potatoes and greens will have varying degrees of reduced yields, and it is a disaster that is about to be harvested......

The rain did not stop completely until the 25th, and although it only rained for a few days and sunny for a day or two, it could not change the fact that the yield of various sweet potatoes had been reduced.

In addition to the effect on sweet potatoes, it is not good to stay in the room for a long time, and the contents are extremely humid as if they have just been fished out of the water.

All kinds of dry food stored at home need to be re-dried, which invisibly increases a lot of workload, but fortunately, there is a sweet potato Teng Man to share my worries, and I don't have to go to the woods to cut grass for the sheep in the rain, otherwise life may be more difficult.

By the time the rain stopped, it was already late September, and the temperature dropped to less than 15 degrees Celsius due to the effect of the rain, which was obviously not enough to withstand in summer clothes.

But don't worry, these rainy days are not idle at all, I have made another set of relatively thick clothes, and now I have two sets of spring and autumn clothes plus sheepskin clothes, and I have no fear of winter!

On the fourth day after the rain, the long-lost sun finally came out, but the annoying sun of summer was so lovely and attractive at this moment.

As soon as I had dried the ground, I took out a third of the corn and other items stored in the house and spread them out on the drying grounds.

But at this time, it makes people feel that the drying field is too small and not enough, even if it is all covered, it is estimated that it will take three or four days to dry all kinds of items, so the bricks that are usually made in time should be burned out to expand the drying field.

Not only did a rainy season keep me in my room for more than 20 days, but my standard of living also continued to drop during this period, which made people want to improve their food.

While drying all kinds of things, I plan to use my scattered time to catch a net in the trap, I haven't caught fish for nearly a month, and the fish pond is already in an empty state, and it needs to be replenished urgently.

......

However, when I blocked the exit of the trap to check the harvest inside, I was once again stunned by the harvest inside!

There isn't much in the trap, but it's the species I've always missed, and it's the --- lobster.

I caught a lobster, or two big lobsters, each weighing two or three catties, especially the pair of huge tongs that make people's scalp tingle, but thinking of the soft and glutinous shrimp meat in that pair of tongs, you can instantly forget the threat of tongs.

After some hard work to capture them all, I was going to return directly, but then another creature in the trap caught my attention!

There are no other fish in today's trap except for two lobsters, so they are usually overlooked.

At first, I thought there was more garbage in it, but after repeated observations, I felt that there was an essential difference from garbage, after all, garbage does not squirm!

Curiosity led me to scoop them out of the mud, and that's when I realized that it was also a seafood, which turned out to be surprising.

This seafood is red or black in color, and it looks shiny, and I don't know if I think it's a small plastic bag with colored water in it.

It looks like a shortened version of an earthworm magnified countless times, and it really has earthworm-like properties, and it is very good at hiding in the mud, and it can't be found if you don't have a sharp eye.

The feeling in my hand is even more strange, sticky, a bit like a sea cucumber without skin, quite soft.

With an average length of about 20 centimeters and a diameter of more than 3 centimeters, and the size is similar to that of a sea cucumber, it is quite ugly in appearance, and it is difficult to think of it as an ingredient if you don't understand it.

The discovery of them was a bit of a surprise to me, as I never seemed to have paid much attention to the existence of sea intestines before, and even if I saw one occasionally, I had never shown much interest in them.

It wasn't until today that I found two or three in the trap and when I got it in my hand, I remembered what it did.

Unlike sea cucumbers, there are not many edible parts left after removing the internal organs of sea intestines, and there are not even one or two that can be eaten in my mouth, so I still showed indifference at first when I saw them, and it was not until I reacted later that I happily fished them all up.

......

Sea sausage has always been a relatively valuable seafood, rich in nutritional value, but my interest in it is not because the nutritious ingredients can be said to abound on the desert island in the sea, and anything you can eat is nutritious.

What appeals to me about it is its role in taste, not as an ingredient......

Sea sausage is very delicious, more delicious than most seafood, so it can play a role that most ingredients can't play, to enhance the flavor, that is, the seasoning used in daily life.

I don't have a lot of spices, and all I have lived on the island for so many years is salt and oyster sauce, as well as chili peppers and ginger, and nothing else that can add more layers to the flavor of the ingredients.

Even if you have to look for many years on the island, you have never found a new seasoning, so in the end, you will simply give up!

But the sea intestine found today has ignited a glimmer of hope, as long as the sea intestine is removed from the internal organs, cleaned, dried and then ground into powder, it can achieve the previous effect of monosodium glutamate.

On the surface, MSG doesn't seem to have much effect, but if you try it, you will find that if there is no MSG or chicken essence in the usual dishes, it will be more or less bland, and if there is MSG, it is like chili, it is an indispensable part!

After discovering the sea sausage, I even felt that oyster sauce could be made without making it, because with natural MSG, it not only lasts longer, but also has a purer taste.

Two or three sausages in a bucket ignited my passion, and the number of them was far from enough for my daily needs, and I wasn't going to wait so slowly, but to take the initiative.

While it was still early, I went straight home, found the shovel, and rushed to the beach with a bucket......

The process and location of digging for sea intestines is similar to that of bamboo leeches and other seafood, and it is all about finding small holes not far from the waterline of the beach, and these holes are used to live several familiar seafood, but the difference is that they are not at the same depth in the sand.

At this time, I was reminded of the situation when I used to catch bamboo leeches with salt, no wonder there was no reaction after pouring salt into many holes, and after thinking about it, I found that most of those holes were sea intestines.

It's just that they are thirty or forty centimeters deep in the sand, and the salt poured into them can only be like stones sinking into the sea, and at first I thought that those holes were all empty, but fortunately it was not too late to wake up.

......

I did the same thing as I used to catch leeches, still pouring salt into the holes, mainly because I didn't want to dig the soil one by one, which was too troublesome.

After using salt to pull the leech out of the hole, it can eliminate ninety percent of the small holes, and the remaining ones are at least thirty percent likely to be sea intestines, which is already a good chance to have such a chance, not to mention that you can also get bamboo leeches by the way.

The rest of the process went quite smoothly, and when the second pit was dug, the first sea intestine was obtained, which made people so excited that they couldn't close their mouths.

It's even more pleasing to have a more stable way to get them, because you can dig up a lot of sea sausages like you used to get oysters, and then get a lot of natural MSG, and you can't help but want to dry and grind them into powder right away when you think about the deliciousness of the future dishes.

The time at the beach lasted until before dark, and the harvest was a bumper harvest, with a capacity of nearly fifty catties filled with large barrels, of course, about half of them were bamboo leeches and water, and about twenty catties of sea intestines alone.

It may be the first time to dig up sea intestines, so it will be so easy to dig sea intestines that have never been dug before, but for the time being, I don't plan to dig it often to cook, and I mainly position it as a condiment.

Although they were urgent, there was not enough light at night and they had to wait until the next day to deal with them.

Compared with the twenty catties when the sea intestines were just harvested, it was not much, only about five catties, and I believe that there may not even be one catty after drying.

But one pound of monosodium glutamate is enough to eat until now next year, so some things can't be too little on the surface, because I don't have such a big appetite, and it is quite satisfying to have the current amount.

Thanks to the fact that the sun is still fierce in late September, it only takes three days for the sausages to be completely dried, and the exciting time has finally arrived!

The hands holding them trembled slightly, and they were all hoping to make the dish more delicious......

Although it is said that the sea sausage has the reputation of natural monosodium glutamate after drying and grinding, there is always an inexplicable apprehension in my heart before it is verified, but fortunately, the time of apprehension has passed.

After processing, the sea intestine itself is very thin, and it is even more atrophied after drying, and it is not difficult to grind it into powder, just pour it into a clay pot, and then hit it with a wooden stick in several batches to turn it into powder, the process is quite easy.

I was still quite expectant about how good it would actually work, so my lunch that was supposed to be an hour or two later was brought forward in order to test its effect in advance.

Of course, the final result was very happy, and it was very much in line with expectations, I finally had MSG that could improve the freshness of the dishes, and the oyster sauce was indeed laid off.

With the flavor enhancement of natural monosodium glutamate, the taste of the dish can be completely improved by several grades, and finally you can eat the taste similar to the food you ate in the city before, and my heart is full of infinite satisfaction at this moment!
