Volume 1 Chapter 60 Construction Busy

The finished bricks and tiles have not yet been completely dried, so it will only be a few days before the second kiln is fired.

I didn't think about resting in the past few days, but trying to make up for some of the losses caused by the typhoon.

I began to carry some clay from afar and pour it into the clearing, intending to make a new batch of pottery.

The container side has been in a state of tension since the last loss, and I hate that the quantity is too small every time I need it!

The pottery made this time is mainly concentrated in pottery jars and clay pots, pottery pots, other types are temporarily put aside, these three needs are the most urgent at present, especially the pottery pots, the larger volume determines its greater role for me.

After the expansion of the scale, the corn and peanuts will be stored in clay jars, which obviously feel that they are not enough this season, and the pressure will be greater in the next season, and a special one should be reserved as a water tank.

The large clay jar is very suitable for use as a water tank, but the opening is too large for storing grain, which is not conducive to moisture.

At the same time, sealing is also a big problem, the number of rainproof cloths is limited, and I am reluctant to cut it into pieces for sealing.

I have made some improvements to the new batch of clay jars, and the height is about 20 centimeters higher than before while the volume remains the same, and the opening has been shrunk.

Now the opening is only the size of a basin, and it should be more appropriate to call it a pottery bowl in the future.

This small improvement makes it look like a clay pot that has been magnified several times, and the difficulty of making it has naturally increased a lot.

The first one took me nearly three hours to complete except for the mud mixing, and the final result was that I was not satisfied with how to adjust the shape, and I was directly turned into a mud ball and redone.

The second one was still unsuccessful, and it took two hours to make it and only half an hour before it was directly deformed, and it seems that the clay is still slightly softer.

Later, through continuous improvement and skillful techniques, the speed and quality were finally improved, and a total of five were made in less than two days, and if they can be successfully fired, there may be no shortage of large containers for at least two or three years!

......

The clay pots and pots have remained basically the same as before, and the changes are not very obvious.

It's just that two sizes of larger and smaller are added to the clay pot, and two or three are made, the small one is intended to be used to hold salt, and the large one can make up for the lack of the clay pot, and it can come in handy if the volume is larger but requires a high demand for sealing.

After three or four days of busyness, I finally made up for all the losses and exceeded them to a certain extent, of course, it is still too early to say this, and we can only wait for the completion of the firing to judge the hero by the results.

In mid-December, I was preparing the land for the next crop, which is simply loosening!

At present, there is almost one acre of idle land and half an acre of green vegetables in the vigorous period, a total of one and a half acres of land that has been cultivated and cultivated, and the area of the next season may increase a lot with the expansion of the scale of sweet potatoes.

And potatoes will also take up a lot of land in the near future, and I think that the next season will be at least two acres to barely meet my own passing mark.

In order to anticipate the enemy's leniency, I want to open up another half an acre of land for backup, and the iron hoe I just started is really lovely.

There is almost no difficulty in clearing the wasteland now, it only takes a little time, and the efficiency is not a little bit better than before.

When using, it is no longer as cautious as when using copper hoes, and the operation of opening and closing can basically open up about 150 square meters in one day, and half an acre of land only takes two days.

Having lived on the island for so long, I've categorized most of the things into categories.

Among them, the most tiring should be brick-making and kiln-firing, the second is digging soil, which includes digging kilns, clearing wasteland, etc., and the third is going to the sea to fish, which is not only tired but also going to the sea from time to time to fetch water into the fish pond, as well as collecting timber and so on.

So it's relatively easy to look at the excavation, but there is a reason why it can be ranked second, not only is the mechanical action very boring, but also the completely open-air operation can make people sore.

Four days later, I sorted out all the newly opened half acres of land, and loosened part of the original land, and after checking the state of the bricks and tiles, I finally dried them and were ready to fire.

......

With the experience of the last time, it seems orderly to do the same process again, but it still can't change the fact that this is a physical job, and I am still busy every day and I am discouraged, like a coal worker.

Thanks to God's cooperation, it hasn't rained for a few days, and if it rains, I don't know what the consequences will be, it won't be too good anyway, and even all scrapped are possible.

The second kiln from the kiln to the kiln everything went smoothly, although the process is still so hard, busy to the back and even the whole person is like falling apart, but the materials for building the first room are finally there, this is a thing worth celebrating, it lasted for a month or two of busy, and finally got the materials together!

The total number of this kiln was 1,800 bricks and 2,000 tiles, but after firing, there were 200 pieces lost each, and the number of the first kiln was enough to build a room.

The main materials are in place, and there is no need to wait for nothing, I began to officially build a house, and it is estimated that the New Year will only be spent in the cave if I don't start building!

Four days ago, the cave collapsed again with a clay pot-sized piece of earth, and although I wasn't in it because it happened during the day, it was still very scary to think about, and I really didn't want to stay in the cave if I didn't have a choice.

Seeing that the new house was not far away, there were no more simple walls on the outside of the cave, and the feeling of sleeping with a breeze at night was quite indescribable, which also prompted me to build and put it into use faster.

The newly built location is still the same as the original house, almost unchanged, and all the timber and their belongings have been cleared out of the ground again.

And it has been stepped on very flat and tight by my usual walking up and down, and it can be used directly after a little processing.

......

If you are just trying to prevent typhoons, there are two other places that are better than this one, and the terrain is relatively flat, and the location is not as bare as the mountaintop.

But the disadvantages are also very obvious, that is, the distance is too far, the building materials are too troublesome to handle, and even the use of water will be a lot of trouble, so it is eliminated!

Before building a house, the first thing is to mark the floor, which will determine the size of the house and whether the walls are straight.

The professional approach is not very clear, after all, I have never done this business myself, so I can only do it according to my own practice and add brain supplements.

Straighten the two ends of a very long rope and fix it, and then sprinkle a line of grass ash along the rope after many adjustments, which is considered a line, a total of four sides that is, four lines, not much, just straight.

In addition, each corner must be 90 degrees, more or less than the last built shape will not be so good-looking.

After the initial framework was clear, I began to lay a round of bricks along the traces of the plant ash, so that even if the plant ash was destroyed, I could know how to build it at a glance.

Obviously, there is no such thing as laying a foundation here, because it is not necessary, and because I also find it troublesome and time-saving.

To say that it is better to build the first layer with long stones and add bricks, otherwise the bricks in the bottom layer will be damaged by rainwater over time.

But even now that I think of this, I don't want to spend too much time looking for such a large stone to be chiseled into a regular shape, so I can only keep things simple.

The dimensions of the houses were carefully thought out to be five meters long and four meters wide, one meter longer than the original planned size of four meters long and three meters wide, one meter each longer.

The size of the original plan now seems to be a little narrow, especially after there are more things, it will be even smaller when you put a few things in, and a few clay pots will occupy the area.

Thinking of this, I feel that four meters long and three meters wide is too small and childish, so I simply build a bigger one in line with the idea of long-term planning, one step in place, always live by myself, and make myself more comfortable living when the area is large.

In the past, the roofs were straw huts, and the beams were fixed with ropes, but after several typhoons, the ropes proved to be too fragile.

The first two problems were the roof, so this time the beams had to be fixed with iron nails.

......

Due to the great demand in quantity, I used up almost five catties of iron to make iron nails, about two or three hundred, which is not clear whether it is enough or not, but it makes me very heartbroken.

Brick-to-brick bonding was a technical challenge, and I had to mix the cooked mud used to make the bricks and tiles with a small amount of sea sand.

The viscosity of the brick-making mud is not bad, although the viscosity difference is 108,000 miles compared with the cement mortar, but I think the house should be safe with a height of only 3 meters!

At first, I planned to use the raw materials for pottery --- clay, but considering that there were many materials needed to build a house, it was really troublesome to move them home, and the amount of clay reserves was uncertain, so it was better to cherish the limited resources.

The construction of the wall was very fast, and there was no problem with the food and no worries recently, and after a day the height was close to 40 centimeters, but then a problem occurred.

I have a cold!!

At the most critical moment of the construction work, the body fell off the chain, and the cold symptoms this time were relatively common, but it took three days to recover from the dizziness.

It was still thanks to the help of ginger to recover so quickly, but it was not surprising to think that I had been frozen in the well for a whole day during the typhoon, and I was not careful in my usual days.

The cold time is also very accurate, it rained the next day, even if you don't catch a cold, you can only stop work and rest in the cave, but fortunately, when the cold is good, the rain will stop after a day!

Compared with the beginning, the construction speed is getting faster and faster, and the entire three-meter-high wall is completed in less than ten days, but it is not very convenient to operate after reaching a height of nearly two meters, and it needs to use ladders.

In addition, it is a waste of time to go to the beach to carry sand and mud, and the back basket is broken for me, and I have to take time to make it again.
