Volume I, Chapter 32, The Sheep Hunt I
At the beginning of February, it was almost time for the New Year, but the specific date of the New Year was obviously not clear, and the date of the New Year was set on February 10th.
Anyway, I'm alone on the island, and I can set any day I want, but out of respect, I'll still set it at the beginning of February, which is the most common.
So there are less than ten days left before the Chinese New Year!
Although it is said to be the New Year, it seems that the appearance of the home now, especially in the kitchen, does not seem to be the meaning of the New Year at all.
There was almost nothing left except for a few fish, and I didn't want to eat fish on the day of the Chinese New Year!
For nearly half a year, fish was the main food every day, and even boiled chicken I felt more fragrant than fish.
In order to survive, I have to eat, but this kind of day has to be changed, and a big entry point is sheep.
The last time I saw the five big sheep, I have been thinking about them for a long time, and I even had the idea of catching them!
Yes, starting today, I'm going to start a more difficult mission--- sheep hunting.
So far there are five adult sheep on the island, which is just beginning to take shape, and there are lambs in the bellies of the two ewes, so I don't have to think about it every day.
Although I strongly advocated that I wait until the time I can to catch them in captivity, my mouth told me: I must eat mutton now, otherwise I will strike!
Now, just thinking about pork, beef, mutton, etc. (except fish) that I haven't seen for a long time makes my mouth water.
Originally, he thought that he would wait a few more months for the lamb to be born before catching the first sheep, but after a few months of torment, it was clear that he had overestimated his endurance.
Now I don't want to do anything, I just want to eat mutton, and if you catch one, it won't be a big problem for the development of the flock!
......
Catching sheep is not as simple as imagined, they can run and jump, and they are even more flat in the woods, even if they touch their bodies, it is difficult to subdue a live sheep weighing nearly 100 pounds in an instant.
Although the idea of catching them is very strong now, it also needs to be considered in the long run, and we must not lose our minds for the sake of the momentary thoughts.
The preparations were inevitable, and the things I was going to bring were first of all a basket containing a bottle of fresh water and food for a meal, a knife and a fire fold, and a twenty-meter rope.
The rest doesn't seem to be much to bring, because I have zero experience with sheep hunting, and I can only try it before I know what else I need.
Actually, I thought about making a bow and arrow, but I think that with my current ability, I can only make an arrow shaft without an arrow, which will be almost lethal and like tickling.
Second, things that have never been used are definitely not accurate, and it may be difficult to shoot a cow ten meters away, and finally give up, mainly based on traps, and if conditions permit, people rush directly to fall head-on!
I knew it was a manual task, and it might not be something that could be done in a moment, but I set out in the morning after breakfast, and it turned out to be more wasteful than I thought, and it took me more than four hours to find the location of the flock!!
The reason I was looking for so long was because I missed it on the first lap, and I even wondered if they were missing or eaten by some animal, but on the second lap I found them grazing in a relatively hidden location.
Of course, four hours were not wasted, and in the course of the search I found the habitat of the sheep, or maybe one of them, because they must have not been there for a few days.
I'm sure I won't let go of this situation, whether it's its current habitat or not, I'm also going to make a trap, but this method is a bit of a blind shot, in case you catch the ewe, it's a bit of a headache!
There are basically only two ways in and out of the habitat, and I have set traps on both roads, and I have nothing to care about anyway, and there is a sense of rushing to the doctor in it.
......
The trap is what we often see on TV, with one end of the rope tied to a small tree, and the other end made into a movable buckle fixed on the ground, as long as the prey steps in the leg and trips over the rope, the small tree will bounce up and pull the rope tighter instantly, and the prey will be hoisted.
I chose a tree that was smaller and milder because I didn't want it to actually hang the sheep away, and even just hanging my feet in the air was dangerous for the sheep, and I didn't want to hurt them until I was sure of their sex, after all, the ram was my target!
When I walked around and found the sheep, I found that they were grazing leisurely, and there was no sense of danger at all.
For them not to find out that my existence is exactly what I want to see, "quietly enter the village, don't shoot" is the purpose of this operation, I did not make a noise, but quietly approached them, at this time my actions are like a thief, obscene and trivial, extremely nervous......
When I was still about 30 meters away from them, I was nervous, and I accidentally fell and hit a small tree, and the noise made them all raised their heads to look in my direction.
"Oops"! My heart was suddenly in a hurry, and I finally got so close, and I was found out like this, and my mistake was too low-level!
However, what I didn't expect was that after looking at me for a few seconds, the sheep did not change, and began to lower their heads and continue to graze, and I breathed a sigh of relief in my heart, it seems that they did not notice me, but only heard the sound and looked here habitually, and probably thought that the wind had blown the branches.
Hey, hey, hey......, there's drama and there's drama!!
I didn't move when I saw them grazing, and it took another three minutes for me to continue crawling, and by this time I couldn't bend over as much as I had started, and the wild goats were very alert, not comparable to the stupid big ones of coconut crabs!
......
I don't want to miss out on being found at such a close distance, I want to eat meat, I really want to ......
The crawling process is very uncomfortable, often pierced by sharp objects on the ground, grinning, and occasionally hanging on the sweater without being able to enter, but fortunately there are no insects and snakes on the ground at this time of year.
Of course, if the snake is a snake, I may not care about the mutton, just turn over and run away, no matter how delicious the mutton is, it is not important to die.
The rest of the journey went smoothly, until I was still seven or eight meters away from the nearest sheep, when I was still proud and fantasized about the naïve idea of eating mutton right away, I was discovered by one of the sheep!
I wanted to lie on the ground and pretend to hide from its eyes, but the next second I heard it bleating a few times, and the sheep began to stir and move into the distance!
I'll go!!!
I was in a hurry, and I no longer hid, and I got up from the ground and rushed towards them, and people can hardly do anything good under impulse, so there is the classic saying "impulse is the devil".
I didn't realize that the sheep were junglers, they were running through the woods like they were walking on the ground, and I had to go around some rocks and branches on the road from time to time, and I had to keep an eye on the road to avoid falling to the bottom of the slope like last time.
The end result could only be that I sat on the ground panting and sighed looking at the sheep, and they threw themselves at me from a distance, and the eyes of "little sample, come after me" made me even more annoyed!
In fact, when I go out, I think that even if it is not a very simple thing, it is not too difficult to do, because when I was a child, I also raised sheep for a few days.
My first impression of sheep was that they were docile and obedient, but after seeing the wild goats, well, I changed my mind.
Tossing for most of the day to find nothing, I also lost the trace of the sheep, people trapped under the horse can only return tomorrow to make plans, it seems that this is indeed not a day or two can be solved, need to continue to spend time, continue to look for the right opportunity to start.
......
On the second day of sheep hunting, in order to eat mutton as soon as possible, I set off early, and the difference between today and yesterday is that today I brought three bottles of water and a few pieces of steamed dried fish.
Yesterday there was a huge deviation from the time and result I expected, not only did I not catch the sheep, but the action time exceeded my expectations and I had no water to drink for the next few hours, and finally my throat was almost dry to smoke.
It must be mentioned that moving around in the woods is very physically and hydrating, especially in the process of finding sheep, which requires constant walking and searching, and the high tension when approaching is also one of the reasons.
If you don't drink water for two or three hours, you will be very uncomfortable and even dehydrated, and basically you will be wet with sweat all day yesterday.
Before the sheep search began, I went to the place where the trap was set yesterday to check, and if there was a harvest, I didn't have to spend time looking for it, and I could directly have ready-made results.
But apparently there is some optimism, it seems that the sheep have not returned here, and there are no new traces in either place!
Today's search for the sheep went relatively smoothly, and it only took more than an hour to find them.
It's just that they're in a very bad position, and I hardly have a chance to attack, because there are basically no big rocks or cover around them, so I can only watch from a distance and can't get close.
Now this season, because there is less grass, they hardly have much time to sleep or bask in the sun, and if it is in the spring when there is plenty of grass, they will spend more time on the ground.
Half an hour, an hour, two hours passed, and the sheep were still grazing and not moving elsewhere.
My patience has also run out, I don't want to wait for them to give me a chance any longer, I have to create my own chances.
Now that they are about 200 meters away, there is no need to worry about exposure, so they can be safe by bending down slightly.
Looking up at them from time to time as I moved towards them, I noticed that they didn't notice anything unusual, which gave me a little confidence again.
When I was still forty or fifty meters away from them, I crawled forward again to avoid being discovered, as the saying goes, "good things are more grinding", I don't know if it was yesterday's experience that alerted the sheep or my bad luck,
Before they could climb twenty meters away from them, they spotted them!
I can't wait for a mouthful of old blood to spurt out......
The flock fled directly in the other direction, and today's operation failed again!
