Venerable Wei Dao is one of the eight great generals of Buddhism, since ancient times, after the establishment of Buddhist temples, must be enshrined in Venerable Wei Dao to guard the dojo. There are two main kinds of Buddha statue modeling of Wei Tuo, one is both hands and palms, both hands hold the vajra with the same hand, the other is to hold the vajra with one hand to stand, the two kinds of Wei Dao Buddha statue have different meanings, the person holding the pestle in both hands means that the temple welcomes the traveling monks from all over the world to come and stay overnight, the one holding the pestle in one hand means that the temple does not receive foreign monks, and the wandering monks only need to look at the Wei Tuo shape in the Buddha hall to know that they are not welcome.
Legend has it that in the last years of the Great Sui Dynasty, a Buddhist temple built on Putuo Mountain suddenly caught fire in the middle of the night, and a young monk slept at the foot of the Buddha statue of Wei Tuo. When the fire broke out, the little monk happened to dream that Venerable Wei Dao, who was dressed in gold armor, told him: The Buddhist temple was on fire, and the little monk was shocked to escape as soon as possible, and quickly got up to see that sure enough, the fire had spread to the main hall.
In a hurry, he picked up the statue of Wei Dao Buddha and went out, and when he ran to the outside of the hall, the entire Buddhist temple was already in flames. And what is amazing is that this rescued Buddha statue of Wei Tuo weighs hundreds of catties, and it is not at all something that a small monk with a thin body can carry, so this incident was a sensation at that time, and Wei Tuo's miracle was more deeply rooted in the hearts of the people.
There was a Zen master in the Great Sui who liked to meditate, but as soon as he sat down, he dozed off. The purpose of meditation
It is to attain meditation, and if there is a problem of drowsiness and drowsiness, the meditation will not be successful. In order to cure his own drowsiness, Zen Master Gao Feng Miao moved the place of meditation to a cliff, which is dozens of feet high.
Master Gao Feng Miao took this opportunity to be vigilant to himself, hoping to correct the problem of meditation and lethargy. But the habit is hard to change, only a few minutes of meditation dozing off, a somersault was planted, Gao Feng Miao thought that this must be dead. But in mid-air, a force suddenly rescued him. Gao Feng Miao felt very strange, so he asked: Who is coming to save me?
I only heard a voice in the air: I am Wei Dao Bodhisattva. Hearing this, Zen Master Gao Feng Miao thought to himself, thinking that his cultivation was really amazing, and he could feel Wei Tuo Bodhisattva to protect the Dharma, so he asked Wei Tuo Bodhisattva: How many people in the world are as diligent as me?
Wei Dao Bodhisattva replied: If you practice like this, you will only doze off without kung fu, and you still think you can't do it. There are as many people like you as the sands of the Ganges. From now on, I will no longer protect your Dharma for five hundred lifetimes. One hundred years, five hundred years is fifty thousand years.
Zen Master Gao Feng Miao was really sad when he heard that Wei Dao Bodhisattva would not come to protect the Dharma for five hundred years. But when I look back, I think about it: Cultivation is my own business, so what does it matter if the Bodhisattva does not protect the Dharma? If the Bodhisattva does not protect the Dharma, he still has to practice. Even if a bodhisattva comes to protect the Dharma, the practice still has to be achieved on one's own. The Bodhisattva does not come to protect the Dharma because he is sluggish and slack, and it is his own fault. So Gao Feng Miao felt ashamed, and vowed to practice at the cost of his life.
Only by attaining enlightenment can we reach all sentient beings, otherwise we can only live in the world like a walking corpse, and finally perish with the grass and trees, and life is meaningless.
Zen Master Gao Feng Miao began to meditate hard again, after a long time, the habit of drowsiness came again, and another somersault was planted, Gao Feng Miao Zen Master thought to himself, this time it was definitely dead. But when he was almost to the ground, another force rescued him.
Zen Master Gao Feng Miao was surprised and asked, "Who saved me?" I am Wei Dao Bodhisattva. Didn't your old man say that you won't come to protect my Dharma for 500 lifetimes?
Wei Dao replied: Because you have the mind of being ashamed and ashamed, and at the same time you practice diligently regardless of your life. This thought of seeking the Buddha's path has exceeded 500 lifetimes, so I have come to protect your Dharma again.
From this eucalyptus, we can know that a person has a heart of shame and repentance, which is the greatest transcendence and the greatest diligence. Therefore, whether it is a practice or a daily way of dealing with people, as long as you do something wrong, you should be ashamed and ashamed, so that not only your mind can be at peace, but also your karma can be eliminated. Sin begins with the heart and confesses from the heart. If the heart is destroyed, sin is also destroyed; The heart is dead, and the sin is destroyed, and it is called true repentance.
Veda Bodhisattva is the protector of the Buddha, but also the protector of the Dharma, but also the protection of all beings who practice the Dharma, the temple will be dedicated to the Veda Bodhisattva,
The duty is to protect the Dharma and the Sangha. He will support the birth of 999 Buddhas in the Thousand Buddhas of the Virtuous Tribulation, and be their protector, and he is the last Buddha in the Virtuous Tribulation, and the famous building is the Buddha!
His face is like that of a child, indicating that he has a childlike heart for Buddhism, and holding a vajra demon pestle, indicating that he has the ability to destroy evil and support righteousness, and eliminate demons and defend the way. According to the "Casting Ding Yu Wen": "Those who hold the pestle with their palms together are the reception temple, and all the people who travel to the temple are offered." According to its pestle, it is not true, but it can be seen at a glance. “
"Protecting the Dharma" does not just mean material offerings, but also has to work the Fa. The Buddha is the discoverer of the truth, the Dharma of the 12 parts of the Three Tibets is the truth, and the monks are the monks who propagate the truth. Therefore, we call the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha the "Three Jewels".
When a Buddhist sect takes refuge in the Three Jewels, it is necessary to understand that the duty of the Dharma protector is to protect the Three Jewels. The whole process of respecting the Buddha, respecting the Sangha, developing bodhicitta and perfecting it is the best Dharma protector. It is also where the true merits of practice and Dharma protection lie. Protecting the Dharma is also the duty of a layman. A layman who comes to the monastery needs to be careful about cause and effect, always introspective, and good at protecting one's body, mouth, and karma.
Vedic Bodhisattva loves to protect those who are truly diligent in their practice and never slack off. Worshipping and offering to Veda Bodhisattva and reciting the holy name of "Nam Mu Dharma Protector Veda Zun Tian Bodhisattva" can increase merit, reduce obstacles and sufferings in life, and provide a stable environment for practitioners.
It is recorded that this statue of Veda Bodhisattva encountered construction problems when it was cast. The formation of the mother type requires the youthful kindness of "childlike Brahmanism", and also shows the courage and heroism to subdue the evil spirits. If you are not a sculptor with a high degree of talent, you are not competent. Therefore, in the production process, it is rumored that it has been repeatedly destroyed and reworked several times. When he was helpless, a distant monk suddenly came. He volunteered to complete the statue with great skill. After it was cast, he suddenly said goodbye without saying goodbye, and he has not been heard from since. Therefore, the legend is that the statue of Veda Bodhisattva appeared.
A long time ago, Veda Bodhisattva once incarnated as a walking monk and came down from Jiuhua Mountain. When passing through Tianmu Mountain, the idea of settling in Tianmu Mountain suddenly appeared, and it didn't take long for this special "walking monk" to raise and build a Garan in Tianmu Mountain.
Early in the morning, the bells and drums rang in unison, the banners hung high, and the auspicious clouds surrounded the hall. The great virtues of the mountains and the good faith of the ten directions came as promised, and the great Dharma meeting of the altar was also held as scheduled. After the ritual was completed, the crowd slowly dispersed, and at this moment, the "walking monk" on the altar suddenly disappeared, and everyone searched everywhere, but there was no trace of him.
At night, after the Buddha front lamp is lit. , everyone found that there was an extra Bodhisattva on the altar, only to see this Bodhisattva wearing full uniform, holding a treasure pestle, sitting there in a majestic and dignified manner, this is the sitting statue of Veda Bodhisattva.
Since then, Tianmu Mountain has been believed to be the dojo of Vedic Bodhisattva's manifestation of sainthood, and has manifested many spirits to protect one side.
In many scriptures, the Vedic Bodhisattva vows to support the Dharma and those who study the Dharma. Such a great wish makes the Bodhisattva the representative of the protector of Buddhism, and it is a great responsibility.
The so-called road is one foot high, and the magic is one foot high. Those who study have more or less obstacles, and they cannot deal with evil things until they have entered the holy stream. At this time, Vedic Bodhisattva appeared to support the practice of the four disciples.

People, because of past karma, have developed poverty, diseases, and many difficulties. Worship and make offerings to the Vedic Bodhisattva, and when you look at it and make a prostration, you will receive the blessings of the Bodhisattva.
In the past, Veda Bodhisattva was the prince of Dharma and Italy, and vowed that when a thousand brothers became Buddhas, they would often get close to the Buddha for Vajra Lux, and they would hear the secrets of the Buddhas, and they would not doubt it. With this wish, the cash is strong, urging the evil to assist the right, and supporting the teachings of the Thousand Venerables. Before the birth of the Thousand and Four Buddhas, he made a grand vow in the place where the treasure came.
There is such a thing, the old abbot of Yongquan Temple in Gushan of the Great Sui Dynasty, Yuanyu Zen Master, because he had to assist the imperial court in compiling the "Tibetan Scriptures", could not manage the temple, so he promoted the youngest apprentice to Master Xiangxian to the abbot of Yongquan Temple. Master Xiangxian is a native of Ninghua, a monk since childhood, studious, intelligent and enlightened, after officially becoming the abbot, he is more immersed in studying Buddhism, stabbing blood and writing scriptures, and the affairs of the temple are only handed over to others, and they never ask.
After a while, the monk in charge of the treasury came to report that the food in the temple was only enough for the monks to eat for four or five days, and asked the abbot to think of a way as soon as possible. He sent people down the mountain to buy grain, but it was a famine year, the price of rice was rising, and there was a shortage of food everywhere, although some were purchased, it was still not enough for the temple needs, so Master Xiangxian went to the statue of the Protector of Vedic Dharma, prayed with incense, and begged the Protector of Vedic to help tide over the difficulties!
As a result, after a few days, the rice grain is still insufficient, so I had to order the monks to cook gruel through the hall, and after a few days, the grain of rice in the temple is gone, so I had to boil water through the hall, at this time, the first master went to the front of the Veda Bodhisattva, picked up the Zen staff pillar and shouted: "The Buddha ordered the heavens to protect the monks, there is no food and no rice in the temple today, although it is my lack of good fortune, but also your generation is not effective in protecting the Dharma, and there is no food, I will move you to a single order"
That night, as usual, Venerable Xiangxian was meditating on the meditation bed, and suddenly felt a little confused, as if waking up in a dream, the Protector of Vedic appeared in front of him and said to him: Someone will bring rice early tomorrow morning, and send all the monks to the river to pick rice.
When the sky was light, he knocked on the cloud board, and when all the monks arrived, Master Xiangxian said to the people: "Last night, Wei Tuotuo dreamed of me and told us to go down the mountain this morning and pick rice by the river. The old and frail stay in the temple, and the young ones go and prepare for the picking, and go down the mountain with me. “
This sentence stunned everyone, and someone asked: "Is there really rice under the mountain?"
He said with confidence: "You'll know when you go down the mountain." ”
Although everyone was surprised, but the abbot spoke, but did not dare to disobey, a group of more than 100 people, over the Lingyuan Cave, mightily along a path leading to Kuiqi down the mountain, just halfway up the mountain, I saw that there was a sea ship by the river surrounded by a group of officers and soldiers.
It turned out that during the Great Sui period, the sea ban was very strict, and as soon as smuggling was caught, it would be beheaded. It was a smuggling ship that was smuggling rice to Siam, where there was no shortage of rice, but after the death of King Tesaro, the princes fought for the throne and caused a food shortage.
The smuggling ship encountered a strong wind during the voyage, so it had to turn into the mouth of the Min River to avoid the wind, but it was discovered by the inspection post, and chased it all the way to Kuiqi, where it was anchored and inspected.

Master Xiangxian replied, "I dreamed last night that Wei Dao appeared to me, so I went down the mountain to pick up the rice. ”
Nami Shang was very clever, and he also stepped forward and interjected: "Yes, we were sailing in the sea, and suddenly the wind was strong and the fog was foggy, and it was also the Bodhisattva's manifestation that guided us into the mouth of the Min River."
The sentinel also believed in Buddhism, and when he heard that the Bodhisattva had appeared, he did not dare to ask any more questions, and allowed the rice to be unloaded, and the rice merchant kept his head and did not move, which was a great luck in misfortune, and he was also willing to escort the rice to the mountain and provide food for the monks.
As soon as the rice entered the door, they couldn't wait to enter the warehouse, and everyone flocked to the statue of Wei Tuo to thank them. I saw that the body of the Protector of the Veda was sweating profusely, this is strange, how can the statue of the god carved in the clay plastic wood be sweating? The monks were amazed, and the abbot said: "Protector of the Vedic Dharma, you have worked hard, please sit down and rest." ”
As soon as he finished speaking, he saw the statue of Vedas, which turned from standing to a sitting statue, which is the origin of the unique "sitting Vedas" in Gushan.
"Tripitaka Sutra" records that Veda Bodhisattva was born on the third day of the sixth month of the lunar calendar, often in the world of Suva, with three continents in the world, the 18th as the general, the 54th as the prime minister, built a pavilion to receive 120 people, opened 130 wells, built monks' robes and blue tree bowls 8 million, set up monks and nuns baths, built 48 roads, and built 46 Buddhist temples.
Each life to build a thousand sandalwood Buddhas, six feet high, each Buddha in front of a gold pagoda, each seven feet high. Each lifetime made 100 copies of the Tripitaka. The seventeenth is a true child. Baohua glazed Buddha will become enlightened, called Puyan Bodhisattva. At the Shakya Buddha meeting, the name is a true child-like Bodhisattva. Holding the vajra pestle weighing 84,000 catties, Vajra does not break the body, makes a big vow, and the Buddha was born to support the Dharma.
He wears a phoenix-winged helmet, a dark cloud soap on his feet, and gold chain mail.
Xie Baoshu threw the Golden Light Divine Monk on the ground and shouted, "Vedic Bodhisattva, you don't care about this matter?"
The Four Ming Monks were very anxious, because he had already reminded him, but he didn't expect Xie Baoshu to still know whether he was alive or dead. Bodhisattva, that is a real person equivalent to the Daomen, can he still be bullied by Xie Baoshu in the Dragon Temple?
Sure enough, Veda Bodhisattva came out and said softly: "Disciple Jinguang, drink wine and eat meat, destroy temples, and drive away monks. Raiding homes and robbing people's daughters is a bandit, which can be described as having no limit to evil and doing all kinds of evil. Since then, he has been expelled from the Buddha sect and is at your disposal. ”
The Golden Light Divine Monk was slightly stunned, knowing that he was finished.
When the Bodhisattva said this, no matter how big his backstage was, his life would be ruined.
But before he could react, he was stabbed in the neck by Xie Baoshu, and he immediately lost his voice. Xie Baoshu took out his knife, looked at Vedic Bodhisattva, and said with a smile: "The Bodhisattva is really fair, but I want to ask, if I don't come, when will you deal with this monk?"
Veda Bodhisattva smiled: "I saw it, and I will naturally deal with it." ”
Xie Baoshu understood that as long as he didn't come, Veda Bodhisattva would not see it.
Buddhism is like this, like Taoism, there are monks with profound Buddhism, and there are also evil monks with good manners. as
Today, the Tang Dynasty just gave Buddhism a Bodhi state, and there is such a thing. If you give more, then you still have to go?
This is also the reason why Liu Guanshan would rather guard the Two Realms Mountain alone for so many years than rely on the Daomen. In a country, if the religion is too prosperous, people will be enslaved unconsciously.
Buddhism, Taoism, all have dirty things.
Not to mention other minor religions. The Peacock Kingdom of Simon, the whole country was ruled by Buddhism, and people believed that they were born with a class. This situation, okay?
Xie Baoshu looked at Wei Tuo Bodhisattva and said with a smile: "I kind of understand, without strong strength, it is in vain to say anything." ”
Veda Bodhisattva ignored him and said to himself: "Now that you have offended the Dragon Temple and the Buddha, how should you settle this account?
Xie Baoshu smiled: "Why don't you send me into the six realms and suffer from that reincarnation?"
