Chapter 333: The Bodhisattva Lectures
It's easy to kill, but it's hard to control the desire to kill.
Along the way, Xie Baoshu was controlling his desire not to kill, so he didn't speak, pressing his heart. Jing Ning on the side was very worried about him and bought him some fruit.
Xie Baoshu came to the state lord's mansion, which was already heavily guarded at this time.
They are all warrior monks.
The understanding of the concept of monks and soldiers is mainly divided into broad and narrow senses. In a broad sense, it refers to all monks, and in a narrow sense, it refers to the arming of monks who are officially allowed to fight, or monks who fight for the imperial court. And the warrior monk is literally understood as a monk who practices martial arts, but no matter how high the martial arts monk's kung fu is, he is still a monk. The warrior monks only provided the prerequisites for the formation of monk soldiers.
Specifically, the earliest record of the battlefield armament that can be confirmed by the Buddha Gate comes from the "Wei Shu Shi Lao Zhi": Taiping Zhenjun six years, will cover Wu against Xingcheng, Guanzhong commotion, Emperor Nai Western Expedition, as for Chang'an, first, Chang'an Wheat Temple, the imperial inspection of the horse in the wheat, the emperor into the view of the horse, Shamen drink from the official wine, from the palace into its room, see the great contradiction of the bow and arrow, out of the hearsay, the emperor angrily said: This is not used by Shamen, when conspiring with Gai Wu, the law is harmful, and there is a temple of the case.
Monks, it is understandable to prepare some swords in troubled times to take care of the family and nursing home. There are bows, crossbows, and large shields, and the temple has the responsibility of herding horses, so this nature is different. Emperor Taiwu of the Northern Wei Dynasty said: This is about to be out of the Knights, let's destroy it quickly! But if you can destroy one temple, you can't destroy the whole country. By the time of Emperor Xiaowen of the Northern Wei Dynasty, Buddhism flourished, and many temples had numerous "monk households" and "Buddha Tuhu" and tribals.
These people usually recite Buddha and practice martial arts, and they are typical temple arms. At the end of the Northern Wei Dynasty, when Emperor Xiaowu of Wei went west, "Shamen Du Wei Na Hui Zhen held a thousand cattle knives to follow". "Shamendu" is the name of the monk in the Northern Dynasty, Wiener transliterates "Karma Dhana", which translates as "conferring", which is a kind of monk position in the temple, managing the affairs of the monks, and is second to the seat and the temple master. These circumstances indicate that during the Northern Wei Dynasty, the monk armed forces were already linked to political forces.
It can be seen that in the Sui and Tang dynasties, it has become a common phenomenon for monks to practice martial arts and become soldiers as generals. Tang Xuanzong once sighed, "The northerners also enjoy the vigor and the wind, and in the midst of the brakes, the rest of the practice of riding and shooting, there is no class of teaching, how can it be stopped." "You see that the monks of the Tang Dynasty are cows, and they all play riding and archery when they practice martial arts!
It is particularly worth mentioning that Confucianism talks about loyalty, filial piety and righteousness, and when the world is in danger, Buddhist disciples can also be loyal and filial piety. In Tibetan, a warrior monk is called Deduo, which originally means a reckless and arrogant person, and is usually translated as a wandering monk in Chinese, and some people translate it as a warrior monk or monk.
Deduo's dress was far from that of an ordinary lama. They usually fold the hem of the monk's skirt into two layers, tie it high, fold a lot of pleats around the body, twist the drape into a rope and wrap it around the body, and often leave two long hairs on the sideburns. Red silk stripes were tied around the neck and arms, and fake keys were hung from leather chains around the waist, and some were armed with knives. When attending rallies, they smear their eyes with cigarette stains to accentuate their ferocity.
Compared with ordinary lamas, Deduo's way of life and spiritual world are very special: they hardly learn the scriptures, except for commitment
In addition to the temple chores, the main job is to train in martial arts.
They don't even follow the precepts very well, and often engage in misconduct such as drinking, smoking, and breaking the precepts. They even boasted of it, claiming that "even if the Buddha appeared in the sky, he would not know loyalty, and even if the small intestines of sentient beings fell, he would not know compassion."
The origin of Deduo can be traced back to the late period of the ancient Tibetan Dynasty. Because Zampu at that time gave the monasteries independent land property and tax rights, the monasteries gradually became the main body of interests, and there was a need to train monks and soldiers, and take care of the family.
The struggle between the Tibetan Buddhist sects also made it necessary for the monasteries to build up military forces for their own protection. It was against this background that Deduo was born and became an armed defender of Tibetan Buddhist monasteries.
However, as the Gelug sect became the ruling sect, sectarian struggles declined, and the status of the monasteries was rarely threatened, and the main focus of the Monastery was no longer military fighting, but the chores of the monasteries and the maintenance of law and order during large-scale Buddhist events.
The virtues who served the monasteries by force also suffered from existential crises, especially their actions that undermined the precepts and the reputation of the monasteries, which inevitably caused the monks to shake their heads and even strike at them.
Their fixed daily training has its own system and is demanding. In both winter and summer, the Tokudo bathed in cold water in the mornings and trained in running, jumping, throwing stones, lifting weights, wrestling, and so on in the flat fields of the valley outside the monastery.
These warrior monks were summoned by the Golden Light Divine Monk to protect the state lord's mansion.
Xie Baoshu smiled slightly, just right, giving him a chance to vent.
Xie Baoshu pulled out his knife and rushed into the crowd. Jing Ning and Yang Shan ghosts on the side, under his signal, they didn't move. The Golden Light Divine Monk hid in the back, not daring to make a move at all.
These warrior monks, that is, Deduo, are actually quite powerful.
But in front of Xie Baoshu, it is not enough to see at all.
For a time, the state governor's mansion was bleeding.
Killing all living beings is called "killing" in Buddhism, and it is listed as the first of the ten evils of Buddhism. Generally speaking, beginners do not know the definition of sentient beings, and now some people say that plants also have life and feelings, and if they say that they do not kill living beings, they should not kill neither animals nor plants. In fact, life has its levels, plants are ruthless beings, and animals are sentient beings. Thus the "killing" of killing is killing, and "living" refers to sentient beings.
Therefore, the definition of killing is to be able to know life and fear death of animals and not plants. The reason why the Buddha precepts do not cut down plants and trees is because the low-level ghosts and gods attach themselves to the grass and trees, and use the plants and trees as shelter, so that the ghosts and gods do not become angry, so they do not destroy their abodes, not for the reason that the plants and trees cannot be killed.
Buddhism advocates non-killing, and the main purpose is the spirit of compassion for the equality of all beings. All sentient beings have the right and freedom to live, and we ourselves are afraid of being hurt and afraid of death.
Once upon a time, there was a faithful Zhangzhung farmer who used to go to the Silver City of the Dome to listen to the master teach the Dharma. One evening, on his way home, he saw a wolf killing a goat, and the goat was crying out in pain!
The wounded wolf opened its mouth and ran. The goats were also spared.
One night half a year later, the familiar sound of sheep woke up the farmer, and he could no longer sleep, so he got up and lit the lamp to look out, and was immediately startled, it turned out that a large group of wolves surrounded the door, and the rescued goat was standing on the roof of his house, as if deliberately informing him of the crisis he was facing.
The farmer was angry and wanted to scare the wolves with a gun, but he beat the wolves to death on impulse. Three years later, the farmer raised a little Tibetan mastiff that everyone loved, who could understand people's words, be empathetic, and help the farmer do many things. Every day, he followed the farmer to the mountains, villages, and to the vault silver city to listen to the master's teachings.
On this day, the farmer took the Tibetan mastiff to visit the root lama, and the guru saw the mastiff and said, "Give me the Tibetan mastiff and let it guard the monastery gate here." The farmer said, "Master, I am a little reluctant to think that it is my life." ”
The Guru said, "Is it your life? It is here to kill you, its predecessor was a wolf that you killed, and this life is coming to settle accounts with you." Leave it here, and I'll find a way to settle your grudges and end your grievances. ”
The farmer was skeptical, how could an obedient Tibetan mastiff like this be my enemy?
Seeing the farmer's thoughts, the guru said, "Well, when you go home, remember that when you kill the wolf next year, before the Tibetan mastiff wakes up, put your clothes on a stake in front of your house, put your hat on the stake, and then you must hide yourself and don't let the Tibetan mastiff see you." ”
When the husband returned home, he arranged everything according to the instructions of the master the next year, and waited in disbelief.
As soon as the morning dawned, I saw the Tibetan mastiff seeing the "farmer" in front, taking advantage of his unpreparedness and running over violently, with bright red and fierce eyes, spitting bloody and terrifying tongues, and smashing the straw man with a burst of random bites, as if he had been wronged, and the fierce Tibetan mastiff slowly quieted down. When the farmer hiding behind the house saw this, he angrily picked up an iron rod and beat the Tibetan mastiff to death.
In the winter of the second year, the farmer's goat had just given birth to a lamb, which was very popular, and after half a year the farmer took the goat to the master, who said, "Leave the goat with me, and I will help you resolve the accumulated resentment." But the farmer was still skeptical and kept the baby goats. Four years later, the farmer took the goat to the mountains and walked to the narrow path on the edge of the cliff, when the goat's head hit the farmer and fell off the cliff.
In the end, the farmer's life still did not escape the retribution of the karma of killing by cause and effect, knowing that the goat was destined for his life, or he deceived himself and found many reasons, which is the negative karma caused by killing.
This is the concept of killing in Buddhism, and Xie Baoshu doesn't believe it.
In Buddhism, they are careless about people's lives, and they are not as good as Taoism.
In Xie Baoshu's opinion, the real monk should be like the Tongming monk.
The state lord of Bodhi Prefecture, the Golden Light Divine Monk, is just a fat-headed and big-eared beast.
In principle, the focus of the "non-killing" vow is not to kill people, because only human beings can create bad karma and fall into the ghost path or go to hell, and they can also cultivate good karma and ascend to heaven
hall, out of the Three Realms and even Buddhahood. Other sentient beings, with very few exceptions, do not know either good nor evil, but only the natural actions of retribution with their karma, and have no mental actions. Therefore, people are Taoist instruments, and only people can cultivate and promote the Tao. Therefore, the abstain from killing is simply not to kill.
As for man, no one who is affirmed as a human being, whether he is old or low, whether formed or unformed, who is knowledgeable or ignorant, shall not be killed.
Half an hour later, the governor's mansion was bleeding.
The Golden Light Divine Monk said angrily: "Boy, the Bodhisattva is preaching in the Dragon Temple, and you still dare to be presumptuous?"
Xie Baoshu heard this, just right.
He flew forward, grabbed the neck of the Golden Light Divine Monk, and then flew up against the wind and went straight to the Dragon Temple!
Jing Ning and Yang Shan ghosts followed closely behind.
In the Yulong Temple, Vedic Bodhisattva is giving a lecture, and the four monks are sitting below to listen to the lecture. Wei Tuo Bodhisattva rushed over from the Peacock Country for the matter of the Two Realms Mountain this time. With him in charge of the Dragon Temple, there will be no big problems.
Wei Tuo Bodhisattva, also known as Wei Tuotian, the Sanskrit name is transliterated as private Jian Tuo Deva, which means cloudy day. Veda Bodhisattva is a great bodhisattva who upholds the Dharma.
Wei Tuo Zun Tian Bodhisattva is also known as Sai Jian Tuo Tian, private Jian Tuo Tian, Jian Tuo Tian, Wei Dao Tian. Or General Wei, General Wei Tian. Originally a Brahmanical god, the worship of this god was first popular in a small country in the south, and later spread to the country of Peacocks, where it was absorbed by Mahayana Buddhism and became the guardian god of Garan.
Born intelligent, early away from the desire to be dusty, and cultivate the innocent karma of pure Sanskrit. He was instructed by the Buddha to protect the three continents of the east, west and south.
It is rumored that when the Buddha was nirvana, the Rakshasa ghost stole a pair of Buddha's teeth, and Wei Daotian was in a hurry to recover it. The image is dressed in armor, with palms together, and a sword in his wrist. In our country, since the early Tang Dynasty, after the Daoxuan lawyer felt his image, there are statues of his gods everywhere.
Tianmu Mountain is said to be the dojo of Wei Tuozun Tian Bodhisattva to show the saints, so there is a special "Wei Tuo Palace" in its temple. Among them, the statue of Wei Tuo Zun Tian Bodhisattva enshrined in the Wei Dao Hall of Zhaoming Zen Temple is very different from all directions - all the temples in various places are standing statues, and here is a huge sitting statue.
The Sadness Sutra says: Wei Dao Bodhisattva was equal to Shakyamuni Buddha in his past life. In the past, the Holy King had a thousand sons, all brothers, and after learning Buddhism, each of them made a vow, and after listening to their vows, Wei Dao Bodhisattva at that time said: "When you practice and become enlightened, I will protect you and protect you, and when you all become Buddhas, I will be the last to become a Buddha." “
In the Buddhist monasteries of the Tang Dynasty, most of the statues of Wei Dao are enshrined in the Tianwang Palace, behind the statue of Maitreya Buddha, facing the Daxiong Treasure Hall, there is the priesthood of protecting the Buddhist Garan. The statue of Wei Dao is usually dressed in armor and holds a vajra pestle, which is used to pillar the ground.
Or put his hands together and rest the pestle between his elbows, and his body is like that of a majestic, mighty and brave general, but his face is gentle and dignified. Legend has it that after Shakyamunia Buddha became Nirvana, the heavens discussed with the kings about cremating the body and collecting relics to build a pagoda for offerings. At this time, Shakti came to the crematorium with the Seven Treasure Vase in his hand and said that the Buddha had promised him a Buddha tooth.
So he first took off the Buddha's tooth and prepared to go back to build a pagoda to make offerings. From time to time, there are Rakshasa ghosts hiding next to the emperor, taking advantage of people's inattention, stealing the Buddha's tooth relics. Wei Daotian rose up
Straight pursuit, instantly captured the Rakshasa ghost, retrieved the relics, won the praise of the kings of the heavens, thinking that he can drive away evil demons, protect the Dharma, known as Wei Tuo Bodhisattva, the image is generally a child's face, wearing armor, holding a vajra.
In the Tang Dynasty, the idiom "short-lived" is the story of this Bodhisattva.
Epiphany is a flower goddess who blooms every day and splendidly in all seasons. She also fell in love with the young man who watered her every day and weeded her. Later, the Jade Emperor learned about this, and the Jade Emperor was furious and wanted to break up the mandarin ducks. The Jade Emperor arrested the god of flowers, reduced her to an epiphany that can only bloom for a moment a year, prevented her from seeing her lover again, and sent the young man to Vulture Mountain to become a monk, giving him the name Wei Tuo, so that he could forget the past and forget the god of flowers.
Many years have passed, and Wei Tuo really forgot about the god of flowers, devoted himself to studying Buddhism, and gradually achieved success. But the god of flowers can't forget the young man who once took care of her.
She knew that every year in late spring, Veda would always come down the mountain to collect morning dew sencha for the Buddha. So the epiphany chose to bloom at that time. She bloomed the essence that had been gathered for a whole year in that moment. She hoped that Vedor would look back at her and remember her. But thousands of years have passed, and Veda has come down the mountain year by year to collect morning dew. The epiphany blooms silently year after year.
Vedor never remembered her. Until one day, a thin man walked past Epiphany and saw the melancholy and lonely feelings of the flower god. He stopped and asked the god of flowers, "Why are you sad?"
The god was amazed, because mortals could not see the true body of the god of flowers. If it is Da Luo Jin Xian who has a golden light on his head, and the person who has just walked by him is obviously a mortal, how can he see his true body. Kagami hesitated for a moment, only to reply, "You can't help me." He waited silently for Vedor to be no longer answering the man's words.
Forty years later, the thin man walked past Epiphany and repeated the words of forty years ago, "Why are you sad?" The god hesitated again for a moment, only to reply, "You may not be able to help me." The emaciated man smiled and left.
Forty years later, a wizened old man reappeared at the god of flowers, and the originally emaciated old man looked even more dying. The man had become an old man, but he still asked the same questions as he did eighty years ago.
"Why are you grieving?"
Epiphany replied: "Thank you as a mortal, you have asked me three times in your life, but you are mortal after all and you are dying, how can you help me, I am the god of flowers who has been punished by heaven for love."
The old man smiled and said, "I'm Yu Ming, and I'm just here to break the fate that didn't come to fruition eighty years ago. God of flowers, I am here to send you a sentence: the origin of the fate of the fate of the end, the flower blooms and falls to the dust. “
After speaking, the old man closed his eyes and sat down. Time gradually passed, the last rays of the sunset began to slash from the old man's hair to his eyes, the old man smiled and said, "A flash in the pan is Wei Tuo, why is there anything wrong with such a feeling, God will punish me to suffer, and I will open the sky without eyes."
After that, the old man grabbed the god of flowers, and at this time the sunset slipped into the eyes of the old man, and the old man immediately passed away, grabbed the god of flowers and went to the Buddha country together. The god of flowers met Veda in the Buddha country. Veda also finally remembered the karma of his previous life, and the Buddha knew about it
Zhun Veda descended to the earth to cut off the unfinished causes.
Because the old man of the Yu Ming clan violated the rules of heaven, his soul wandered all his life. If you can't ride a crane to the west, you can't enter the Pure Land of the Eastern Buddha Kingdom, and you will be punished by heaven and there will be no reincarnation. A flash in the pan, just for Veto. Therefore, epiphany is also known as Vedeo. It is also because the epiphyllum is seen after sunset, so the epiphyllum blooms at night.
The Bodhisattva preached, and everyone sat down in a serious manner.
At this time, a loud rumbling bang came.
The four Ming monks felt that something was wrong, and hurriedly opened the large array of the Dragon Temple.
But it was useless, and a brilliant sword aura appeared in front of the Dragon Temple. Just like many years ago, a knife broke through the big array.
The Four Ming Divine Monk Rao had a good temper, and after seeing the young man's appearance, he couldn't help but scold: "The surname is Xie, your master always came to make trouble together. If you don't learn the good, you will learn the bad, right?"
