Chapter 456: Wearing Sin (Rui Wen's Extra Chapter)

The calm voice of the magistrate was particularly loud in the empty council hall. "Forgive yourself."

Riven looked at the samurai earnestly. He couldn't force himself to say the words of relief. Riven had been begging for death for so long, and now that she saw Yasuo's struggle, she realized that the real difficulty was to continue to live with what she had done. Yasuo looked at her as well. Is he willing to stay and face the past?

The windswept man walked out of the council hall and into the night. Rui Wen held the old man's old hands tightly.

At sunrise, it's fresh and cool, but the thickness of the clouds heralds a warm day. When the samurai priest and the eagle-faced magistrate came to carry the prisoner with the keychain, the magistrate raised her eyebrows in a little surprise to see that the shackles were still neatly laid out on the ground. Rui Wen consciously stood up and walked out of the hall to face her future.

The other two magistrates had already asked the villagers to assemble in the square outside the council hall. Riven guessed that it must be because they didn't want to be in the same room with her or her Runeblade anymore. A gust of wind caresses the pusher's long braids.

"After collating the evidence, combined with the opinions of the elders, the Noxian was convicted." The magistrate began to announce.

Riven heard the name of her birthplace, her hair standing on end. She looked at Shavh and Asa, who were snuggling up to each other.

"Although the death penalty is easy, it does not maintain the balance of the world," the head of the magistrate continued. "The death penalty will not repair the damage caused by crimes."

The people in the village nodded in agreement. Riven saw their faces, saw their common absence; Children without parents, old people without children.

"So, what the tribunal is seeking is a longer and harsher sentence," the magistrate continued. "We'll oversee the Wanderer, Riven, and repair the damage she caused."

The pusher looked down at Riven along the tip of the hooked nose.

"Sentence her to heavy hard labor," the governor announced. "It starts with the fields of the Comte family."

There was a murmur in the crowd.

"The court will also oversee Riven's repairs to the council hall. and compensate the families who were harmed during the Noxian invasion. ”

The Pusher looked at Riven expectantly. "Are you willing to accept the penalty?"

All eyes are now pointing at Riven. A new feeling stuck in her throat. She looked around, and the ghosts of the past had not disappeared with the verdict. Riven saw the ghosts merge with the living with ease. She was surprised. The sight in front of her relieved her. She will prove to everyone that she is qualified to receive this gift.

"Yes." Rivien choked up and barely recognized her voice.

The old couple immediately rushed forward and hugged Rui Wen hard. She also completely relaxed in the hugs and hugged them hard.

"Daida," Shava's lips pressed against Riven's white hair.

"Daughter," she whispered.

Built on eternal strife, Noxus has never had a shortage of war orphans. With her father dying in an unsung battle and her mother dying in childbirth, Little Raven spent her childhood on an empire-run farm at the foot of the Terry Well Rocks.

Strong bodies and fierce wills keep the children alive while toiling in this barren land, but Riven wants more than just bread on the table. She saw recruiters from the regional warbands coming to the farm year after year, and she saw in them the opportunity to get the life of her dreams. When she finally took the oath of service for the Empire, she knew that Noxus would accept her long-awaited daughter.

Riven turns out to be a natural warrior. Despite her young age, years of hard work have allowed her to quickly adapt to the weight of her weapons and even master a long sword taller than her. The flames of war forged her new home, and Riven felt that her bond with her siblings was unbreakable.

She was so loyal to the Empire that Brond Darkwell personally granted her a blackstone rune blade, and a pale-skinned cabinet sorceress enchanted it. The weapon was even heavier than a shield, and the blade was almost as wide as the shield—just what Ruiwen was looking for.

Soon after, her army set sail for Ionia to take part in the long-planned invasion of Noxus.

This new war dragged on as it became clearer and clearer that Ionia would not give in. Riven's team was assigned to escort another warband through the warring zone of Navoli province. The leader of the warband, Emistan, hired an alchemist from Zaun and couldn't wait to experiment with a new weapon. The battle-hardened Ruiwen is willing to go to war for Noxus, but now she sees that some soldiers are not quite right, and a sense of unease arises. The carriages they escorted were filled with fragile amphorae, and she couldn't imagine what such a thing could be of use on the battlefield.

Both forces met with fierce resistance, and it seemed that even the earth itself was rebelling against them. During a storm, mudslides pour down the mountain, and Riven and her warriors are trapped around the clay pots - just then the Ionian warriors appear. As the tide of battle takes a turn for the worse, Riven asks for reinforcements from Imistan.

The only answer she gets is a flaming arrow that hurtles down the ridge, and Riven understands that this is no longer a war of Noxian expansion, but an extermination of the enemy, regardless of the cost.

The incendiary arrow hits the carriage. Riven instinctively drew her greatsword, but it was too late, and the only thing she could protect was herself. Chemical flames erupted from the cracked container, and screams filled the night sky—Ionians and Noxians all died in bloody agony. The magic of the greatsword shielded her from the scorching poisonous mist, and she could only watch the horrific sight of death, a betrayal that would haunt her forever.

What happened next, Riven can only recall scattered fragments and nightmares. She bandaged her wounds and held a moment of silence for the deceased. But most of all, she began to hate the sword that had saved her life. The inscription on the sword was a mockery of her, a constant reminder of what she had lost. She had to find a way to shatter it, to sever the last trace of her ties to Noxus before dawn came.

But when the greatsword was finally shattered, she still hadn't found peace of mind.

Having lost the faith and conviction on which she depends, Riven now wanders the devastated lands of Ionia, where she exiles herself and seeks atonement from those who will never forgive her: the land, the dead, and herself.

Riven is hurt from the heart, but she believes that the damage she has suffered is not at all the same level as the harm she has caused to others, so Riven wants to do everything in her power to atone for her sins.
