Self-proclaimed Buddha Zen Buddhism 28th ancestor, Chinese Zen Buddhism is the ancestor of Chinese Zen Buddhism, so Chinese Zen Buddhism is also known as Bodhidharma Sect, Bodhidharma is respected as "the first generation of patriarchs of the Eastern Land", "Bodhidharma Patriarch", and Baozhi Zen Master, Fu Dashi together known as the three major scholars of the Liang Dynasty. He sailed to Guangzhou during the reign of Emperor Wu of Liang during the Southern Dynasty of China. Emperor Wu of Liang believed in Buddhism, Bodhidharma to the capital of the Southern Dynasty Jianye Emperor Liang Wu, the interview was not deed, then a reed crossed the river, went north to Luoyang, the capital of the Northern Wei Dynasty, and then Zhuo Xi Songshan Shaolin Temple, facing the wall for nine years, passing the mantle to Hui Ke. Allusion
History
There are also a lot of stories about Bodhidharma in history, among which the well-known and happy ones are: a reed crossing the river, facing the wall for nine years, breaking the arm and standing in the snow, only returning to the west, etc., these beautiful and moving stories all express the admiration and nostalgia of the descendants to Bodhidharma.
Bodhidharma comes from the east
One day, Bodhidharma asked his master for advice, "Where should I go to spread the Dharma after I get it?" Prajnatara said, "You should go to Aurora (i.e., China)." He also said, "After you come to Aurora, don't live in the south, where the monarch loves deeds and cannot comprehend the teachings of the Buddha."
Bodhidharma followed the instructions of the master, prepared the luggage, drove a flat boat, braved the wind and waves, crossed the ocean, and spent three years, going through difficulties and twists and turns, and came to China. After Bodhidharma arrived in China, the Guangzhou Thorn Shi learned of this and hurriedly reported to Jinling, and Xiao Yan, Emperor Wu of Liang, immediately sent envoys to take Bodhidharma to Kyoto, and treated him with wind and dust, and treated each other as guests.
Farewell to Liang Wu
Bodhidharma bid farewell to Emperor Wu of Liang
Bodhidharma came to China across the sea, learned that Emperor Wu of Liang believed in Buddhism, and first went to Jiankang (now Nanjing) to talk to Emperor Wu of Liang about Buddhism. Emperor Wu of Liang, on the other hand, believed in Theravada Buddhism and advocated self-cultivation. Because of their different opinions, whenever they talked about Buddhism, they always did not speculate. Emperor Wu couldn't understand, at this time, Bodhidharma felt that Nanjing was not a place to stay for a long time, so he said goodbye to Xiao Yan and crossed the river north to enter Wei.
First arrived in Luoyang
It is said that when he came to Luoyang, he saw the very exquisite pagoda in Yongning Temple, Ziyun: "One hundred and fifty years old, traveled to various countries", never seen, "the realm of extreme Buddha, there is no this!" Therefore, "the mouth sings Nanwu, and the palms are closed for days" ("Luoyang Jialanji" volume 1). Later, he went to the Shaolin Temple in Songshan, "sitting facing the wall, silently all day long, people are unpredictable, and it is called the wall to watch the Brahmin" ("Jingde Chuan Lantern Record" volume 3). During this period, the disciple Hui Ke was accepted, and the story of Hui Ke's "Lixue Broken Arm" was popular in the world.
Facing the wall for nine years
In the three years of filial piety in the Northern Wei Dynasty, Bodhidharma arrived at Shaolin Temple, and after Bodhidharma arrived at Shaolin Temple, he was in the upper part of the middle peak of the Wuru Peak at the west foot of Songshan Mountain not far from Shaolin Temple, and the middle wall of a natural stone cave not far from the top for nine years. He was in this stone cave, facing the stone wall, sitting upright, his legs bent, his hands making the Mida seal, his eyes looking down, and his five hearts facing the sky. After the meditation, he stood up, did some trail activities, exercised his body, and when he recovered from fatigue, he sat in meditation again. In this way, he continued to practice zazen for nine years. In the end, he realized a Buddhism that could be accepted by the people of the Central Plains: Dongtu Zen Buddhism. Zen Buddhism does not need words to elaborate, as long as you understand your own mind, you can become a Buddha. Therefore, even though some masters do not know a word, it does not prevent them from becoming masters. For example, the later Master Huineng, the sixth ancestor of Zen Buddhism, was illiterate, but he chanted a poem that can be called a high summary of Zen Buddhism:
Bodhi has no tree, and the mirror is not a platform;
There was nothing in the first place, where to stir up dust. I want to talk with more like-minded people about "The Sanction System of Glory of Kings", " ", talk about life, and find a confidant~
