Bodhidharma said, "You have learned my flesh." Dao Yu said: "Earth, water, fire, and wind are all empty, and the five yin of color, receiving, thinking, acting, and knowing are not real. In my opinion, there is no law to learn. ”
Bodhidharma said, "You have learned my bones." Finally, Hui Ke bowed to the master and stood in his place in turn, without speaking. Bodhidharma said, "You have learned the essence of me." He looked at Hui Ke again and told him, "In the past, Nyolai passed on his pure eyes to the Buddha of the Gyalaba, and then he gave him an entrustment and passed it into my hands. You have to hold on.
I will pass on the robe to you as a token of the teachings. Each of them has its own meaning and should be known. Hui Ke said, "Please instruct the master." Bodhidharma said, "Spread the Dharma seal inward, so that the right wisdom is in harmony with the truth." The robe was passed on to the outside so that the denomination could have a clear intention to carry it on. If the descendants are frivolous and suspicious, they say that I am a member of the Xitianren clan, and you are an Oriental student, how can you get the true Fa, and what proof do you take? If you accept this robe and the Dharma now, and in the event of a disaster in the future, you just have to take out the garment and my Dharma to show that the guidance is fine.
Two hundred years after I was gone, my clothes were no longer passed down, and the Dharma was all over the world. But at that time, there were many people who understood Buddhism, but few people who practiced Buddhism. There are many people who speak of Buddhism, but few people who understand Buddhism. Thousands of private texts, secret testimonies. You should preach and expound the right path, and don't despise people who don't have true enlightenment. Once they are back on the right path, they will be like those who have not taken a detour. Listen to my words: 'I came here to spread the Fa and save the confusion. The result is natural. Bodhidharma said again:
I have the Ranga Sutra in four volumes, which I have also passed on to you. This is the way to ask for the Dharma from the heart and to teach sentient beings to realize the Dharma and enter the Dao. I've been poisoned five times since I came here. I once tried to spit out the poison and put it on the stones, and the stones cracked. The reason why I left South India and came to the East was because I saw that there was Mahayana weather in the land of Shenzhou.
That's why I crossed the sea and crossed the desert to find magic weapons for **. Before the opportunity comes, I will be like a fool and say nothing, and my purpose has been achieved. ("Don't Remember": Bodhidharma Patriarch lived in Shaolin Temple for nine years, and said the Dharma for the second ancestor Hui Ke.) only teach him to rest on the outside and have nothing to do in his heart; The heart is like a wall, so that you can enter the Tao. Hui Ke talks about all kinds of mental natures, which are not in line with the truth. Patriarch Bodhidharma only stopped his mistakes and did not explain to him the mindlessness of mindlessness. One day, Hui Ke suddenly said, "I have already rested all the fates." Bodhidharma asked, "Is Mo Cheng broken?" Hui Ke said, "It can't be broken." Bodhidharma said, "This is the nature of the mind that the Buddhas preached, never doubt it." After that, he and the disciples came to the Thousand Holy Temple in Songshan and stayed for three days.
At that time, Emperor Wei respected the Shi family, and Buddhism was as talented as a forest. Guangtong lawyer and Liuzhi Sanzang are the Luan Feng among monks. When they saw Master Bodhidharma giving a speech on the Buddha's path, they often debated with the master with their hands and feet, and there were many rights and wrongs. Bodhidharma Patriarch Yuan Zhen Xuanfeng, universal Dharma rain, won prestige.
The two monks with a narrow temperament could not bear it, and even developed a harmful heart for each other, and put poison in the master's diet several times. By the time of the sixth poisoning, the cause of the master's enlightenment to the world had been exhausted, and the Dharma teachings had been passed on. He no longer saved himself, and sat upright and died. At this time, it was the fifth day of October in the second year of Emperor Wei Wen's reign - Bingchen year. December 28 of the same year. Bodhidharma was buried in Bears Ears Mountain, and a pagoda was erected for him at Dinglin Temple.
Three years later, Wei Chen Song Yun was ordered to send an envoy to the Western Regions, and when he came back and passed through the Green Mountains, he met the Bodhidharma Patriarch. Song Yun saw him holding a shoe in his hand and flew away. Song Yun asked, "Where is the master going?" Bodhidharma said, "Go to the west!" Song Yun came back and told everyone about this matter. When his doorman opened the tomb to look at it, all that was left was an empty coffin with a leather shoe inside. The people of the Manchu court were amazed.
The officials were ordered by the emperor to take the leather shoes and put them in the Shaolin Temple to make offerings. In the fifteenth year of the Tang Dynasty - the year of Ding Mao, the shoes were stolen by the believers to the Huayan Temple of Wutai Mountain. At the beginning, Emperor Wu of Liang met the ancestor of Bodhidharma, and the karma did not coincide. Later, Emperor Wu heard that Bodhidharma had come to Wei to carry out indoctrination, and planned to write an inscription for him personally, but he did not spare time. Later, when I heard the story told by Song Yun, I finally started to write out the inscription. In the Tang Dynasty, Zong Zhen Dharma was the "Master of Yuanjue". His tower is called Kongguan Tower (the name of the year is according to the "Chronicle of the General Spectrum").
("General Theory" said: "Passing the Lantern" records that Emperor Wei Xiaoming admired Bodhidharma's extraordinary deeds and sent an edict three times to invite him to go down the mountain, but Bodhidharma did not leave Shaolin Temple in the end.) After the master passed away, Song Yun returned from the Western Regions and met the master in the Green Mountains. Emperor Xiaozhuang ordered the tomb to be opened. At this time, it was the ordinary eight years mentioned in the "Southern History", that is, the first year of Datong. Emperor Xiaoming died in April of this year, and Patriarch Bodhidharma went to Liang in October.
When Bodhidharma had not yet arrived in Wei, Emperor Xiaoming had already died. Soon after his son ascended the throne, he was killed by Er Zhurong, and this was the Emperor Xiaozhuang. As a result, the Wei State was in turmoil. Three years later, Emperor Xiaozhuang died, and five years later, the Northern Wei Dynasty was divided into Eastern Wei and Western Wei, so when the patriarch was in Shaolin Temple, it was during the civil strife in Wei. By the time Song Yun came back, Emperor Xiaozhuang had been dead for five or six years, and the country had already been divided, so how could there be any statement that Emperor Xiaozhuang ordered the tomb to be opened?
According to the "History of the Tang Dynasty", at the end of the Wei Dynasty, a monk named Bodhidharma sailed to China, and after his death, Song Yun, the envoy of the Wei State, came back from the Green Ridge and saw him. Song Yun's disciples dug up his tomb, leaving only one shoe inside. That's the real thing. )
Spread Zen Buddhism
Bodhidharma began to preach Zen Buddhism in China, "pointing directly to the hearts of the people, seeing nature to become a Buddha, not setting up words, and not teaching outside the teaching". The Buddha smiled with flowers, and the leaves of the Buddha understood and were considered to be the beginning of Zen Buddhism. The non-establishment of words means that Zen is detached from words, and language and words are just code names for describing everything. This is also the reason why Hui Neng does not know one, but knows the Buddhist scriptures, as long as the mind is clear, understand your own mind, you can become a Buddha. After the two ancestors Hui Ke, the three ancestors of the monks, the four ancestors of Daoxin, the five ancestors of Hongren, the six ancestors of Hui Neng, etc., finally a flower and five leaves, blooming the secret garden, becoming the largest sect of Chinese Buddhism, descendants will respect Bodhidharma as the first ancestor of Chinese Zen Buddhism, respect Shaolin Temple as the ancestral court of Chinese Zen.
In the third year of Tianping of the Eastern Wei Dynasty (536 AD), he died in Luobin and was buried in Bear's Ear Mountain.
Teachings
Shakyamuni Buddha entered Nirvana and said that impermanence is the law of birth and destruction. Life and death have been extinguished, and silence is joy.
The teachings of the World-Honored Shakyamuni Buddha: The Dharma cannot be used in this way, and the Dharma cannot be followed by the Dharma. When it is impossible to pay today, how can the law be lawed?
The Venerable Gyalpa, the first ancestor of the West, preached the Dharma: The law is the original law, and there is no illegality. What is the law, there is law and lawlessness in a law?
The Venerable Ananda, the second ancestor of the West, preached the Dharma: Originally, there was a law, but there was no way to pay it. Each must realize itself, and realize that there is no power.
The Three Patriarchs Shangna and the Venerable Cultivator taught the Dharma: Illegality is neither the mind, nor the mindlessness. When it is said to be the law of the heart, it is the law and not the law of the heart.
The Four Patriarchs Youbo Juduo Venerable taught the Dharma: The heart comes from the original heart, and the heart is not the law. There is a law and a heart, and a non-heart is not the law.
The Fifth Patriarch Ti Doga passed on the Dharma: To reach the heart of this Dharma, there is no way to be free from illegality. Enlightenment is the same as unenlightenment, and there is no intention and impossible.
