(6) Lateral epicondylitis of the humerus
Lateral epicondylitis of the humerus, also known as tennis elbow and lateral epicondyle syndrome, is a chronic and strain disease that affects the rotation and wrist extension function of the forearm.
Caused by an acute sprain or strain. Most patients have no significant history of trauma but have a history of strain caused by repeated stretching of the extensor muscles of the forearm. It is characterized by posterolateral elbow pain, especially during rotation, back extension, lifting, pulling, ending, pushing, etc., and radiating downward along the extensor carpi muscle. Pain often limits elbow and wrist movement, forearm rotation and weakness. There may be slight swelling locally, and the elderly may occasionally have muscle atrophy during the course of the disease; Tenderness is evident in the lateral epicondyle of the humerus.
1. Methods and steps
See Figure 2-2-6.
Figure 2-2-6 Lateral epicondylitis massage of the humerus
(1) The patient takes a sitting position, the surgeon fixes the patient's elbow with his left hand, and gently rubs the elbow joint on the affected side with the palm of his right hand for 3~5 minutes, and the local skin is slightly red, see this figure (1).
(2) The surgeon holds the elbow joint of the affected side with his left hand, and rubs the patient's Quchi, Shousanli, Waiguan and Hegu acupoints with the thumb of his right hand for 3~5 minutes, as shown in this figure (2).
(3) The surgeon's usage is repeated on the outside of the forearm of the affected limb from the elbow to the wrist for 3~5 minutes, see this figure (3).
(4) The surgeon gently rubbed the lateral epicondyle of the lateral humerus and the extensor muscles of the forearm with the thenar of the right hand as the end technique, as shown in this figure (4).
2. Precautions
(1) Since this disease is mostly due to degeneration of muscle fiber tissue and decreased elasticity, it is necessary to pay attention to the methods and intensity control of physical exercise (such as playing badminton, tennis, etc.).
(2) Recently, this disease is mostly clinically caused by strain lesions of the upper limbs such as computers and driving, and attention should be paid to the use time and rest of the upper limbs.
(3) At the same time of treatment of this disease, the elbow joint can be fumigated with warm water.
(4) Upper limb abduction and external rotation function exercises can be done appropriately.
