(39) Biliary colic
Biliary colic is a common symptom of digestive disorders and often occurs during acute attacks of cholecystitis and cholelithiasis. Excessive consumption of greasy diet can promote the contraction of the gallbladder and increase the secretion of bile, resulting in poor bile discharge and stasis. Bile is over-concentrated, and chemical irritation can cause inflammation of the lining of the gallbladder and cause severe pain.
It usually occurs after a heavy meal or in the middle of the night. Paroxysmal pain in the right upper quadrant that persists over a few hours and worsens later, radiating to the lower corner of the right scapula.
