Chapter 10: Heaven's Food
The rains on the fourth day were slightly lighter than on the third day, but the rain was still intense.
The soybean-sized raindrops felt a slight pain even if they hit the human skin, and Sistemm felt like his body was being hammered by fists in the face of such rain.
He was almost swept away by the fierce rain after only half of his body poked out of the gap in the dead leaves, but fortunately, the stabs on his feet and limbs were still strong.
The left side of Sisstem's body was swept away by the rain, but the barb on his right leg gripped the wet bark and flipped to the bottom of the branch at an uncanny angle.
There is no danger!
If his feet hadn't caught the bark of the tree, he would have fallen into the lake where the rain had gathered.
The rain from Sistum's upside down tangle from the branches was much less, and although the rain from the tops of the branches passed through his body, it was enough for Sistemm to move slowly on the back of the branches.
Systm's derivative ability [INFORMATION ENTRY] passively records a lot of information, and he can recall his experiences in this world as if he were watching a video.
In Systham's video, walking along the branch, there are several newly grown pine needle leaves near the end of the branch, which can be eaten even if they hide under the branch.
Systm didn't know if his chelica could move on the hard pine needle leaves, but he had no other choice.
If he can't eat the young leaves of the pine needles, he can only choose to jump into the lake where the water gathers, and seek that glimmer of life in his life.
……
In the face of the torrential rain, Systm eventually ate the tender pine needles, his chelica teeth just enough to bite the young leaves of the plant.
The taste of this pine needle is slightly sweet and bitter, which has a certain growth effect on his body, but it is also toxic.
The tree caused Sisstem's uncomfortable breath, perhaps because of this toxicity.
The toxicity of the pine needles slowed down Systham's bodily functions, as if he were drunk, and there was a slight pain in his abdomen.
However, the pine needles were not very toxic, far less than the trouble caused by hunger, and after feeling the poisonous effect for a while, Systm began to devour the young leaves of the pine needles.
In the face of a life-and-death crisis, not to mention nutritious meat, even this poisonous food he feels like he is happy.
Because of the rain, it was very difficult for Systm to eat, and it had been a few hours since he had eaten a dozen fresh pine needles.
The remaining relatively mature pine needles were beyond Sistum's chelicera, and Sistemm began to return to his nest of dead leaves.
As if by heaven's grace, the rain was a little less when Systm returned to the lair, and he was able to withstand the impact of the rain and climb back to the front of the branches, and then hide in the nest of dead leaves.
And not long after Sistrem took refuge in the dead leaves, the rain became heavier again.
Since then, the rain has been getting stronger and weaker, and there is a roar of thunder and lightning in the sky from time to time, somewhat similar to thundershowers, but even if the rain is small, it has never completely stopped.
Until the night of the fifth day, the rain that had been fierce a moment before suddenly stopped, and the dark clouds in the dark night sky quickly dissipated, and Syst saw the moonlight piercing through the cracks in the trees through the gaps in the dead leaves.
The rain finally stopped, and there was not a single breeze in the whole forest, except for the ticking of the leaves and the constant dripping of water on the water.
Systm was finally able to crawl out of his nest of dead leaves......
With the continuous dripping of water on the leaves and the twin moons in the sky, the water surface beneath the trees appears to be sparkling.
The two days of rain have caused the water level to rise further, and the rain that collects in the forest is only about half a metre from the branch where Systm is located.
The rain in the forest had accumulated nearly a meter deep, and as far as the eye could see, only the tops of some tall herbaceous plants stood above the water.
Perhaps as long as the rain lasted a few more days, the branch he was on would also be flooded, but before he was submerged, he would die of hunger and cold.
Five days of rain in a row caused temperatures in the forest to drop, and the temperature became even cooler after the rains stopped.
Stiff and exhausted, Systm crawled slowly through the wet branches with the hook spines on his limbs.
Fortunately, as a grasshopper, he has a wide variety of food, and even poisonous pine needles can replenish his energy, and if he is reborn as a carnivorous praying mantis, he may starve to death in this heavy rain.
……
……
The rain in the forest recedes very slowly, only about 10 centimeters in the early morning, and it is estimated that it will take a few days for the rain to completely subside in the vicinity.
After a night of eating, Heatham's fitness has recovered a lot.
Just because of the toxicity of the pine needles, there is some dizziness and a slight tingling in the abdomen.
By the course of the night, the water had stopped dripping from the leaves in the forest, and the wet bark had become only slightly damp, and the regained strength of Syst began to leap and move.
The morning after the heavy rain had become very quiet, and apart from the occasional croaking of frogs in the distance, Heatham saw no moving life.
However, as the sky brightened, Systm found many signs of life, and ripples were heard from time to time on the calm water.
Systham saw a lot of black shadows under the water, some resembling tadpoles, and a lot of grayish-white things that were slightly smaller than the black shadows, probably the larvae of some kind of insect or some other aquatic creature.
Cystrom bounced up and down the branches of the trees, and found that because of the different terrain in the forest, although they were all flooded, the water level was shallow in some places, and perhaps some of the higher places in the vast forest were not flooded by the rain at all.
It didn't take long for Sistm to regain his strength when he found a vine plant that surrounded the trees and jumped over.
Cistham's body is obviously more fond of grasses than the leaves on trees, and vines are a little worse than grasses, but they are still stronger than leaves.
The vine tasted delicious, with soft leaves with a faint peach aroma, and Systham gulped it down.
As Sistrom devoured it, Sistemm noticed subtle ripples in the water beneath him, and a 5-centimeter-size, six-legged blue-brown insect crawled up from under the water along the vine.
The insect has an elongated abdomen and six strong feet concentrated on its front body, covered in a translucent carapace.
After crawling along the vine for ten centimeters, it clings to the vine's branches and remains motionless, as if it has entered a dormant state unique to insects.
Although Systm did not find a chelica tooth in the insect's mouth, the insect was strong and covered in carapace, and Heatham had no idea of fighting the other party, still quietly eating the leaves of the vine.
In this way, after ten minutes, Syst suddenly heard a strange sound, the swar-brown insect made a sound similar to the crust breaking, as if something had come out of the swar-brown insect's body.
"Decaying insects!"
The head of the insect of Systm showed a greedy look, this molting insect was the food that God had given him!
