The Path of the Clergy
In the aftermath of the Destruction Era, the Great Sanctuary of Remidia, the headquarters of the Order of the Priesthood, was transferred from Huttonmar to the Dark City. As the surface of the earth tore apart, the Dark City broke ground, and then the Dark Elves vigorously implemented the open door policy, and the Dark City gradually became the center of Arad.
The Queen of the Dark Elves used the Doom Era as an opportunity to open the closed lock door and embrace the cultures of other races, and Remidia became a major symbol.
However, even though Remidia had stabilized, the young clergyman, Golantis Gracia, still had a wedge of sorrow on his face. Because she was worried about her only relative, Nilbas Grancia. Her older brother, Nilbas, was a paragon of paladins and a hero to young Golantis. He often comforted his sister, who was crying because she missed her parents, and also helped her with her schoolwork.
He also taught Golantis how to teach the priesthood and how to distinguish between the pretenders. Nil Bas is a very good teacher.
However, this was a long time ago. Before the Doom, Nilbas left Golantis in the Order in order to defeat the Pretenders, and left on his own. There has been no news since.
People say that he is dead, making Golantis give up, but Golantis has always believed that her brother is still alive. This was not the dazed expectation of Golantis, who was concerned about his brother's whereabouts, but more of a premonition peculiar to the clergy who served the same gods. Although she did not receive a direct revelation from God, whenever she prayed, she could always hear a voice telling her not to give up.
Every time this happens, the heart that was once shaken will be strengthened. Unlike other priests who moved to a leisurely mountain village in the name of spiritual practice, Golantis deliberately stayed in the bustling metropolis of Dark City in order to gather news about Nilbas.
Groot: Golantis, long time no see.
A large clergyman walked up to Golantis. The man covered in heavy armor was called Groot, and he was a good brother to Nilbas. He and Nilbas went out to practice at different times, and after the Destruction Era, he occasionally returned to the Order to help before leaving.
Golantis: Brother Groot, long time no see. When did you come?
Groot and Golantis chatted for a while. While stories outside the Dark City have also been heard from other clerics, most of what they tell are sad stories of Arad experienced during their travels. But Groot's story is mostly optimistic and hopeful. Beautiful silver villages, people working together to defeat the pain of the Doom Chronicle, sword souls that seal monsters in the Ice Cliffs of Despair...... These stories are like sprouts sprouting out of the ruins.
Groot: That's pretty much the end of my story...... Golantis, how are you doing? It's not easy to live in an unfamiliar place, right? Nilbas guy is really, where did he go?
Golantis: It's okay. My brother must be doing God's will somewhere. Compared to the hard work of my brother who adhered to the path of the priesthood, what I did was nothing.
Golantis replied with a smile, but Groot could still see the nervousness and anxiety behind her smile.
Groot: God's will...... It may sound irreverent, but I don't think there's anything more difficult in this world than God's will.
Golantis: Huh......?
Groot: Of course, God has wisdom that we can't imagine, and it's bound to be elusive. However, our incomprehension also makes God very depressed. As the saying goes, 'you won't eat until you feed it'. In this respect, the same is true of the teachings of the archbishop. He told us all kinds of difficult things all day long, and it was not until we came back to our rooms when we were tired and fell asleep that we realized, 'Ah, that's what the bishop meant.' Sometimes I've complained that it's not very good, why do you want to do it...... But then I figured out that the archbishop thought it would be better to teach us through personal experience. But when I woke up in the morning and forgot everything I had learned, he would have felt that this was a test for him. This is also God's will.
Groot said with a serious face, and Golantis laughed again. Although they had looked at each other and smiled countless times, this time Groot's eyes looked at her without blinking.
Groot: The revelation is a little strange, but we don't understand God's will anyway. But, Golantis, please don't boil everything down to 'God's will'. He's like candy that can't be eaten. Whether it is hard work, pleasure, or mistakes, God Himself is the only one who can determine whether it is 'God's will'. The clergy who have entrusted everything to God should always be aware that they are human beings after all. It is a human being who always adheres to the path indicated by God, and it is also a human being who runs in the opposite direction. Don't try to be a god. Admit your lonely worries. If you believe that guy from Nilbas, frankly you believe him. It is a fact that the guy is single-mindedly following the path of the priesthood; But he did not come back according to his own wishes, which is also true. Complaining, grieving, this is also the way for the priesthood to go. Only in this way can we better understand and lead people who have complaints and grief. I'm not asking you to show all your feelings, I just hope you don't suppress your feelings. God created us into emotional beings. Please don't forget that.
Although Golantis was a little overwhelmed at first, she understood what Groot meant and smiled softly. All in all, the priest said so much without any focus, but he was actually worried about his friend's sister. What he means is always suppressing his emotions and one day they will explode, and it is better to dispel them a little bit before then. In retrospect, Golantis had been nervous ever since he arrived in the Dark City. Even the clergy will inevitably be uncomfortable in an unfamiliar environment. The priesthood is to guide others on the right path, and because of this, it is more lonely and difficult.
Golantis: Thank you. I will think about what the path of the priesthood is like during my break. I want to find my own path that is different from my brother and try to help others.
Groot: It's great that you think so. You don't have to worry too much about Nilbas either. Don't worry, if he doesn't show up on his own, I'll pull him back by the hair.
Golantis: Then I'm going to beat him up, it's kind of angry for myself, who made him hurt me and I'm always worried about him. Still, beating him up wasn't enough to relieve my anger.
Looking at the grinning Golantis, Groot understood that the sensible and forgiving girl understood what he meant, and he laughed too. However, he was a little worried that his friend would easily taste the fist of a girl wielding a cross as heavy as himself, and he couldn't laugh heartily.
