Chapter 111: The History of Maoshan Righteous Path (Additional 1)
After listening to Bai Annie's explanation, I personally feel that it is the product of the combination of Zhongge and Quanzhen, which not only pays attention to cultivation, but also pays attention to the stimulation of personal potential, which is to better exorcise ghosts and demons.
To avoid you sounding a bit square, let me start with a relation:
Heavenly Master Tao is a branch of Taoism.
The Shangqing sect is a branch of the Heavenly Master Dao.
The Maoshan sect is a branch of the Shangqing sect.
Maoshan Zhengdao is a branch of Maoshan Buddhism.
This is equivalent to a mathematical problem such as a subset, a complete set, and a supplement.
Is it clear to you now?
If that's clear, let's sort out the intricate relationships between them.
We have talked about the Heavenly Master Tao before, and it has always been a branch of Taoist orthodoxy, so let's talk about the Shangqing School first.
The Shangqing School was derived and differentiated from the Heavenly Master Dao. The emergence of the Shangqing School actually reflects the change in the development of folk Taoism to scholar Taoism.
The inheritance of the Heavenly Master Dao is a hereditary system, and Zhang Tianshi's family is basically from a civilian background, to put it bluntly, it is an ordinary non-governmental organization, although the influence is great, but in today's words, it is not in the stream, and it is despised by the upper class.
Until the Eastern Jin Dynasty, due to the southward Sima regime was wary of the Jiangnan Shi clan, many families were politically unwilling, so they took Lao Zhuang Thought as their spiritual sustenance, and thus joined the ranks of Taoist believers. These people were all from big families, had received a good education, and had a high level of cultural attainment, so they were dissatisfied with the ideas that reflected the lower classes of the common people in the original Heavenly Master Dao, and they were very disdainful of the shallow and vulgar scientific ritual precepts that existed in the original Taoism.
As a result, they began to discard and transform the old Heavenly Master Dao according to their own preferences and interests.
First of all, Wei Huacun is respected as the patriarch of the opening school, because they think that there is also "Shangqing" above the "Taiqing", and if they take refuge in the Shangqing school and practice the Tao, they can ascend to the "Shangqing", which is higher than the "Taiqing" of the Heavenly Master's Dao, so they regard the Yuan Shi Tianwang and Taishang Daojun as the supreme gods, rather than the Taishang Laojun of the Heavenly Master's Dao.
In terms of cultivation methods, the emphasis is on the tone and spiritual cultivation, and the refining of the form is achieved through the refining of the gods, and the emphasis is not on Fu Ce, Zhai Jiao and Waidan, and the derogation of the art in the room.
Of course, the biggest difference is that the Heavenly Master Dao respectfully calls the people in the sect "Heavenly Master", that is, "Zhang Tianshi", while the Shangqing faction does not call the Heavenly Master, but changes its name to "Grandmaster", which is called the first generation of Grandmaster.
The Shangqing faction has been passed down to the ninth generation of grandmasters, that is, our ancestors, Tao Hongjing.
Speaking of which, everyone understands that our ancestor is also a member of the Shangqing faction, he is the second disciple of Lu Xiujing, the eighth generation grandmaster of the Shangqing faction, and has made great contributions to the development of the Shangqing faction in the early stage, and has become a famous representative of the Shangqing faction.
Later, the ancestor lived in seclusion in Maoshan and took Maoshan as the ancestral court to continue to cultivate, after which "Maoshan" became the center of the Shangqing faction, and the world changed the name of the Shangqing faction to the "Maoshan sect", and the Shangqing faction was inherited by the Maoshan sect and entered a new stage of development.
The ancestor inherited the Taoism of the Shangqing faction and founded the Maoshan Sect, which made the Maoshan Sect continue to grow and develop, and it has a prominent position and far-reaching influence in the history of Taoism.
Then it officially entered the introduction of our Maoshan Sect.
After returning to Maoshan Mountain, the ancestor inherited the Shangqing School doctrine "Shangqing Sutra" passed on by Yang Xi and Xu Mi, the patriarchs of the Shangqing School, and carefully searched for the authentic works of the lost Yang and Xu handbooks "Shangqing Sutra", and compiled more than 200 volumes of Taoist scriptures such as "True Message" and "Dengzhen Hidden Technique" and "True Spiritual Position Karma Map" that specifically described the early teachings and techniques of the Shangqing School, Fangshu (that is, the predecessor of the later Maoshan Technique) and history, and officially founded the Maoshan Sect.
After decades of painstaking management by the ancestor and his disciples, the teachings and organization of the Maoshan Sect have gradually been completed.
Of course, since our ancestor is the ninth generation of the Shangqing faction, the Maoshan religious doctrine customized by the ancestor must inherit the teachings of the Shangqing faction, but the ancestor still made many changes.
First of all, in the worship of the gods, Taoism is a polytheistic structure of religion to worship a huge system of gods, the Shangqing faction worships the Yuan Shi Tianwang and Taishang Daojun as the supreme god, but our Maoshan Sect has returned to the original Taoism, and still worships Taishang Laojun as the supreme god, so you look at our mantra, the last sentence is "Taishang Laojun is as anxious as the law", that is because the Tao we borrowed is given by Taishang Laojun, not other gods.
However, our Maoshan Sect has added a few more gods to the gods worshipped, such as Yuan Shi Tianzun, and of course, the unique gods of our Maoshan Sect, that is, our ancestor "Sanmao Zhenjun." ”
At this time, you may ask, isn't our ancestor Tao Hongjing, why did he become "Sanmao Zhenjun" again?
This starts with the origin of Maoshan.
Maoshan was not called "Maoshan Mountain" before, the original name was called "Juqu Mountain", it is a wild mountain with no history and few people.
In the Han Dynasty, Xianyang, Shaanxi, there were three brothers of the Mao family, the eldest brother Mao Ying, the second brother Mao Gu, the third brother Mao Zhen, the three brothers saw through the red dust, and wrote down "only see the willow green in spring, and see the chrysanthemum yellow in the autumn wind, and the glory is finally the dream of the three watches, and the wealth is also the same as the frost in September".
The three of them wear the stars and the moon, eat and sleep in the dew, travel day and night, go to the shore of the Yellow Sea, see a high mountain, the forest is towering to the sky, the green shade covers the sun, the grass is like grass, the lemongrass is everywhere, this mountain is "Juqu Mountain".
The three brothers stayed in seclusion in Juqu Mountain, cultivating their nature, collecting medicine and alchemy.
At that time, in the area of Jurong in the south of the Yangtze River, there was a sudden epidemic of plague, and some people heard that there were three brothers of the Mao family on the Juqu Mountain in the north of the Yangtze River with superb Taoism, excellent medical skills, and could cure all kinds of diseases, so they came to seek treatment, and the three brothers of the Mao family went happily, and after the treatment of the three brothers of the Mao family, hundreds of people were cured.
After the death of the three brothers of the Mao family, people were grateful to Dade, built a temple on the top of the mountain, made statues for worship, and honored them as the three Mao Zhenjun. Since then, Juqu Mountain has been renamed Sanmao Mountain, referred to as Maoshan Mountain.
Since then, those who come to the mountains to learn the Tao and seek medical treatment have been endless.
Among them, including our ancestor of Maoshan Zhengdao, the ninth generation grandmaster of the Shangqing faction at that time, Tao Hongjing.
Our ancestor came to Maoshan to return to the hermitage and monasticism, not only inherited the teachings of the Shangqing School, but also inherited the monasticism of Sanmao Zhenjun, and founded the Maoshan Sect, but because the three brothers of the Mao family cultivated in Maoshan first, the ancestor respected Sanmao Zhenjun as the founding patriarch of the Maoshan Sect, and included the Sanmao Zhenjun in the gods enshrined in the Maoshan Sect.
Therefore, respecting Sanmao Zhenjun as the patriarch of the founding school is the respect of the ancestor for the three predecessors of Sanmao Zhenjun, but in later generations, we will still take Tao Hongjing as our ancestor, after all, he is the one who really founded the Maoshan Sect.
I thought it would be enough to write three chapters on the history of Maoshan Zhengdao, but who knew it would be so complicated, so I could only add two more chapters. I've been so troubled to write these chapters...... Thank you for your support
