Chapter Forty-Eight: The Humanoid Queen
In the entire nest system, Orlan's invasion has been classified as the highest level. Because Oran drove the runaway male ant to the forbidden place of the ant nest, or the queen's "dormitory".
The male ants that pour out of the nest and fly all over the sky are the best proof that if it were not for the threat to the survival of the queen ant and even the entire population, the male ant would not appear easily.
With the queen's order, the dense male ants rushed towards Orlan, and they swore to defend the queen's safety. For Orlan, this conflict was inevitable, and he had to draw the sword on his back and grab the two tentacles of the male ant with one hand.
This is not much better for the male, and the two tentacles that are tightly held together seriously affect his sense of direction and balance. But the painful struggles and screams didn't make the human overhead any lighter.
The surrounding males struck from all directions with their huge and sharp mouthparts, and Oran tugged on the "reins" to make the males under his feet make crazy moves. Hovering, diving, pulling, flipping, flipping, and a series of other actions that normal males would not attempt to oversee.
Orlan may have been the first Ant Knight in history, and the first to fly an ant through the sky with a sword to shoot down a dozen equal enemies. However, the good times did not last long, and as the density of enemies increased, Orlan was hit by another fierce male ant.
I felt the sky spin for a while, and Orlan fell from the sky. And the original "car" was torn to pieces in the air by those angry male ants, and it was eaten up. Before Orlan could lament his handy mount, he saw other males attacking him again.
At the last moment, Orlan controlled his body in the air and forcibly changed the original trajectory, causing the male ant to pounce in the air. Then, with a reflexive stab, he drove the short sword into the back of another flying male. The male ant could not die for the time being, and Orlan was spared the tragedy of falling to the ground, only to be a little dazzled by the male ant who was crazy in pain.
It's just that Orlan's physical fitness is too strong, and he didn't lose his goal at all because of vertigo. Then came the third, then the fourth, and Orlan changed mounts one after another in the air. And the males also fell from the sky one after another.
Orlan wasn't going to try to destroy the many enemies in this way, though, and his only target now was the stout, slow-moving queen. Ninety-nine percent of the queen's size is its abdomen, which is the place where the eggs are raised.
Its weakness is only one place, and that is the head of the normal ant form, which is no less tiny than a sesame seed on a watermelon.
That is, until Oran, fifty feet above the queen ant, slashed off the head of the male ant to which he was now attached. The carcass of the male ant fell sharply with Oran, and the other males swarmed in. Just as Orlan and the corpse were about to be submerged, Oran kicked the corpse away.
At the same time as borrowing power in the air, it broke through like a golden cicada breaking out of its shell, although because the number of male ants was too dense, no matter how agile Orlan was, he couldn't dodge the attack. At this moment, his leather armor has been damaged to the point that it is not good, and there are large and small wounds on his hands and feet, but fortunately, there is not much blood, it can only be regarded as flesh wounds.
Boom! There was a muffled sound. Oran carried a short sword like an iron nail into a ball of soft fat, and immediately the whole person fell into it. Then a large stream of translucent, blue and white thick liquid rushed out and splattered the ground.
Orlan finally found the queen's head, which was almost entirely covered in flesh and slurry.
The queen's head is completely different from those of worker ants and male ants, and it is about the same size as an ordinary human. What's even more bizarre is that the pure black compound eyes grow on the "face" of the queen ant almost like a pair of human eyes, instead of the sides of the top of the head like ordinary ants.
Oran, who was soaked in the queen's bodily fluids, didn't rush to make a move, the queen ant seemed to have intelligence and was sending him some kind of signal similar to language. Through this liquid as a medium, Oran can more or less feel the "feelings" and "state" of the queen ant.
If there is a separation, it is like the former between good and bad will; The latter between offense and defense. The queen seems to be conveying the meaning of "surrender", "begging" Orlan not to kill it.
It was the first time Oran had seen this mutant arthropod with intelligence and emotion, and he couldn't help but be very curious. Then he tried to express his thoughts. For example, when the sword is put away and the body is relaxed, the mental perception becomes slow and relaxed.
It seems that this attempt is correct, and it is the first time that Oran has seen this kind of communication that transcends words and contact, and can communicate by simply "thinking".
Immediately afterward, Oran found that his scarred body was slowly healing in this translucent liquid soaking, and his physical exhaustion and mental fatigue also improved.
At first, Oran also thought that the queen's body fluids might be corrosive and toxic, but Oran was very confident in his poison resistance, so he adopted this direct attack. However, he was a little surprised by the result, or rather, it was a small reward for Orlan after he changed his attitude.
Then, the queen's tentacles led a black crystal half the size of a palm's hand from an unknown mass of wrapping. It's too familiar, and it's too surprising to Oran, is this "human nature"? It's even a few turns bigger than the one condensed by the Giant King!
Sombra slowly floated from the liquid towards Oran, finally stopping in front of him. It turns out that the queen's kindness is far greater than Orlan thinks.
Sombra represents human nature, and it can be said that it represents the combination of the highest spirit, thought, reason, and even soul of the intelligent species. Perhaps this is also the reason why the queen ant has become so human-like. I can't help but think that maybe after trillions of years of evolution, these giant ants can eventually become an intelligent race like humans.
But that's none of Oran's business, because the whole world seems to have begun to change right now.
Orlan accepted the black crystal, and as the fluids slowly drained away, the queen slowly opened the package. Oran, who had seen the light of day again, was finally able to breathe after holding his breath for twenty minutes, even though the murky air in the nest was already smelly and unpleasantly hot.
Sure enough, the surrounding worker ants no longer attacked Oran, as if nothing had happened, and they returned to their posts and continued to be busy. The male ants in the sky were gone, and the filth of the corpses on the ground had been cleaned up. I have to admire how conscientious these hard-working ants are.
Orlan glanced at the crack in the cave not far away, and could feel a cooler air flow coming out of it. It looks like we're one step closer to the goal.
