Chapter Forty-Seven: The Giant Tree Ant Nest

The daily task of the worker ants is to take care of the eggs that are still hatching, and after the queen has been born, they need to carry the eggs to each hatchery in the nest and wait for the eggs to break. Then their work is not done, and the newborn larvae still need to collect food for feeding during the fragile development period.

In fact, Oran was once very suspicious of what these giant creatures living on the giant trees relied on to survive. If the dragon horned snake feeds on the beasts that fall outside the sinkhole, then it is estimated that it will not be able to feed such a large number of snakes. The only explanation is these giant ants.

The size and number of these ants fully meet the needs of the dragon horned snake. So it is not impossible to guess that these ants came out of the giant trees to feed, and then the dragon horned snake to catch them for food.

Orlan may not be the only one that comes in from outside the tree, there may be more holes in the tree at the lower end. If he had kept going down the perimeter of the tree, he would have faced more snakes and ants.

At present, at the top of the ant nest, the number of worker ants is still very small. Orlan has met more than a dozen worker ants carrying insect eggs, but their work process is a bit curious.

First, the worker ants will examine the eggs one by one, gently touching them with the antennae on the top of their heads. They then remove some of the eggs that seem to have "died" and carry them behind them with their large mouthparts. Then they lined up one by one and moved towards the lower end of the nest. And the vacant space will soon be filled with new eggs carried by the worker ants.

So where will these dead eggs be transported? As expected, it should be transported to the queen ant, and the result is that the queen is fully digested and absorbed, providing energy for more eggs. Of course, it is not excluded that some dead eggs will be offered to males. But at least the average worker ant is not qualified to enjoy such a delicacy.

Ants are such a group with a clear division of labor and strict classes. They do their job, everything is in order, and they are working hard to grow the population.

Suddenly Oran had a bold idea, if he continued to go down, he would undoubtedly encounter more worker ants, and at that time he might not even be able to hide himself.

Then, it is better to become a "dead egg" and let the worker ants be used as free porters to transport themselves down. Although he may have to face an even more terrifying queen in the end, Orlan can escape if he has the slightest chance.

Orlan had drawn his dagger, and he had to move quickly, getting everything done before the worker ants arrived. Cutting open this huge white egg, the surface of the egg is as tough as cowhide. Liquid like egg whites quickly gushed out, and a pink termite inside that had not yet hatched instinctively writhed.

Its head can be clearly observed, as well as large black compound eyes, and the most powerful mouthparts have begun to take shape. The tentacles of the head, as well as the six legs, are wrapped in a film that clings to the body. The whole larvae are about the same size as Orlan.

Without hesitation, Orlan drew his sharp dagger and sliced through its cephalothorax link. The young ants, who had no room for resistance at all, struggled slightly, believing that it would not be long before they would die completely.

Then, not disgusted and disgusted, Oran picked up the eggs and got into it and hid behind the larvae. Luckily, most of the fluid is excreted from the eggs, and there is plenty of space.

Just over ten minutes later, worker ants who received some kind of signal rushed to the hatchery. He then searched for his target with his tentacles, and soon found the eggs that Orlan was hiding.

Mentally retarded ants even turn a blind eye to the cracks in the eggs, acting entirely on instinct and the queen's orders. Oran felt the worker ants clamp the eggs with their mouthparts and place them upside down on their backs. With a jolt, the worker ants began to move.

Orlan could roughly estimate that the worker ants were not much slower than horses, and that they walked almost intimately downward.

……

The process continued for nearly two hours, and Orlan even suspected that he had broken away from the giant tree at the moment and went deep into the ground. This is what he wants, because if he wants to destroy the Faceless Church, it is not enough to kill people. Only by eradicating its existence from the roots.

As the worker ants stopped, Oran was focused and ready to face everything. Through the gap where the eggs had been cut, Orlan didn't see a white behemoth like a fat intestine, and it seemed that he was lucky. There is a small chance that the worker ants will be sent to the male ants.

The male's head is larger than that of the workers, and it must be proportionally larger than the workers. Its head was covered with cilia on its large mouthparts, and it slowly crawled to the eggs and explored them, then hissed to chase away the worker ants before they began to chew on the eggs from their tails.

Orlan suddenly drew his sword and slashed horizontally. I saw that the entire mouthparts of the male ants were shaved off, and a green slurry was sprayed. The sore male neighed even more harshly, and then the pair of thin wings on his back snorted and spread out to fly away.

Surprisingly, Orlan had already jumped on its back and didn't continue to swing his sword to kill the male, because the colony, which was a whole system, had already begun to react. A steady stream of worker ants is rushing to stop the intruder.

Orlan then pulled out two palm-length short markers and pierced the roots of the two antennae of the male ant, which could interfere well with the communication between the male ant and the entire colony. And it also gives him a flying mount.

The winged male ant flew into the sky, which also happened to rid the Oran on his back from the worker ants on the ground like an ocean. I saw them holding their heads high on the ground, and a pair of antennae were swinging neatly in this direction. Then some of the worker ants had begun to crawl towards the cave walls.

Orlan controlled the direction of the male's head and made it go all the way down the main passage, and it has to be said that the flight speed of this male ant is not satisfactory. Perhaps because they live in the underground of the cave all year round, the utilization rate of the wing wings is too low, and the flight speed is only faster than that of those worker ants.

And this male ant is not very good at flying, swaying left and right in the air, and every time he is close to the cave wall, he will make those worker ants jump and attack. But fortunately, there was no danger, and they all avoided it.

Eventually, it wasn't until Orlan rode his flying mount out of the passage and into a vast field. I saw that the queen ant, whose size was comparable to a three-winged ship, was like an enlarged white caterpillar, or a wriggling large intestine.

There are also patches of male ants flying in the air.
