Chapter 63: Mother
Jason followed Zach around the familiar alleyways and finally into a hidden room.
"You're no longer in the old infirmary?"
It was a room that was almost a basement, and compared to Zack's previous infirmary, it could be described as rotten.
The dim light entered the room through the narrow glass windows on the upper floor, and the dust in the air could be seen under the reflection of the light. This was completely unimaginable in Zack's infirmary before, and this man had almost a habit of cleanliness in the room.
"Sit down, I'll see if there's anything to eat."
Jason sat on a shabby couch in the room, and although Zach didn't answer his question, he could guess that the original infirmary was probably already there waiting for him to return.
Zach brought a cup of coffee and some cookies from the room in a few moments. The aroma of cheap coffee permeates this small, dimly lit space, making the environment feel less oppressive.
"Yes, you used to like to eat the most, but now I'm afraid I can't get into your eyes, let's make do with it."
Zack mockingly placed the coffee and cookies in front of Jason.
“... How do you know I like to eat this? ”
Jason asked curiously, he didn't have a good relationship with Zach.
"You only steal this brand of cookies every time"
Took out a piece of biscuit and fed it to his mouth, some of them were not crispy, not as sweet as he remembered, and even a little bitter, and glanced at the date on the packaging tape, and the slightly blurred handwriting indicated that the bag of biscuits had expired.
"Have you seen him?"
Jason didn't say his name, but Zach understood who he was talking about.
"I'm not doing that anymore"
Zach answered Jason's question in disguise.
"You can go back and see"
At the end, I added.
Filling his mouth with another biscuit, Jason was silent for a moment and said:
“...... Nope."
There was an experience of being ambushed, although Himmler had fallen, but maybe that guy would provoke someone to ambush there, Jason didn't want to experience the experience of being kidnapped, and with his current status, if he was kidnapped once, Dick would laugh to death.
The last time Jason sat in Zach's medical room eating cookies was when his dad was hit in the ass by a bullet. From that point on, Jason would run to Zack's medical room to steal cookies to eat when he couldn't find anything to eat.
Jason looked at the bag of cookies in his hand, because he often went to steal, Zach didn't have a good attitude towards him. Bunnies, brutes, and puppies would scream at the nicknames and swing a bat or something to get him out anyway.
Zach stared at Jason for a moment and then suddenly said:
"My son died at your age"
This is the first time Jason has heard Zach mention himself, and there are many rumors about Zach in the market. Many people speculated that he must have failed to treat someone with a very strong background and was banished, after all, Zack's medical skills are really high.
“.. You still have a son."
"Well, it's naughty like you, a garbage drug addict and drove his car and killed him, and then I'm going to have to operate on that garbage"
As if reminiscing about something, Jason could guess that the operation had failed, and then Zach had fallen victim to the forces behind the garbage, and during the time he spent with Bruce, Jason finally had a clear idea of how corrupt Gotham was.
"You did your best, didn't you?"
Jason had seen Zach perform surgery on others, and he didn't believe that Zach would deliberately let the operation fail.
"Heh... Hehehe, I really didn't expect that it was a little ghost who was willing to believe me."
Zach laughed loudly, after the failed operation everyone accused him of deliberately letting the operation fail, no one wanted to believe that he would do his best to save the trash that killed his son, the corrupt jury passed his charge of intentional homicide and disqualified him as a doctor, and his family, reputation, and dignity were all completely lost because of that garbage.
"I thought you hated me"
"Humph! You kid doesn't even know how conspicuous you are, and I have a lot of people in that hellish place, and I don't know if any of the sharp-eyed guys will see you as you are."
Zach's words didn't surprise Jason, but he had a feeling that it was.
He had always wondered about Zach's ambiguous attitude, and although Zach was always yelling at him not to go near his medical room, Jason was always placed in a fixed position near the window every time Jason went to steal cookies, and he never changed places.
“... I really can't understand what the hell are going on with those perverts who like little boys."
Jason pouted.
"Human beings are creatures without a bottom line, only the group of people above who don't eat fireworks will think that everyone is good, only the environment will create evil, if the law disappears from this world, this perversion will only be more"
At the bottom of Gotham, they have seen too much broken humanity, and therefore they scoff at the slogans of love and beauty preached by the guys above.
"You're already in Bruce though. Wayne is around, I think this sentence is too extreme."
Zach seems to be laughing at himself for instilling too many extreme ideas into a child.
“... Nope."
It was by Bruce's side that Jason realized that sin had nothing to do with poverty, and even money had nothing to do with it.
The atmosphere quieted down, Jason is not a good chatter, and Zach has no topic to talk about at all, after surviving a period of embarrassment, when Jason was about to leave, Zach suddenly came up with a sentence that Jason didn't expect at all:
"Are you becoming more and more like your mother?"
Jason never thought he would hear about his own mother from an outsider.
"I still have a mother?"
Jason's rhetorical question drew a laugh from Zach:
"Do you think you jumped out of a crack in the rock?"
Finally stopping the laughter, Zach tried to laugh at Jason's thoughts.
"No, I thought I was picked up by the man"
"Oh yes, your temper is exactly the same as your father's, and you look like you're biological."
Jason stared at Zach for a long time, which didn't sound like a good thing to him.
"You were born or I delivered the baby"
Seeing Jason furrow, Zach threw another bombshell.
"My mother. . . What is it called? ”
"I don't know"
The crisp answer made Jason want to beat him up.
"Don't look at me like that, you know the less we know in this business, the better"
It is the unspoken rule of black doctors not to ask any questions to patients and only take money to do things, which is good for both patients and black doctors. Patients don't have to worry about their whereabouts being exposed, while black doctors don't have to worry about being targeted by some people because they know too much.
“... When did she leave? ”
For his mother, Jason has no memory of it at all since he can remember, there is no evidence of the existence of the woman in the house, no photos, no records and nothing, the man never mentions anything about the woman, and the relationship with the woman is endlessly returning with a woman sprinkled with cheap perfume, and usually Jason will leave the broken room very interestingly at this time.
Jason had no idea that the woman and the man had ever lived together. In his cognition, he was either picked up by this man who suddenly overflowed with sympathy, or he was thrown to him by a woman who had slept with him after giving birth....
"I don't know, I haven't seen that woman since you were born......."
