Chapter 3: Barbara's Opposition

When Jason woke up again, he still couldn't react to what was happening, and he looked at the luxurious and empty room in a daze, and he pinched his cheek to make sure that he was not in a daze or too cold and hallucinated, or rather:

“.... Is this heaven? ”

"Unfortunately, you are not old enough to go to heaven"

Words with a smile came from the door, attracting Jason's attention.

Jason turned his head in surprise to look at the man who appeared in the doorway. A well-fitting casual dress showed off the perfect body without reservation, and the man looked at the boy sitting on the bed with a smile, and slowly walked over:

"The fever has subsided?"

Bruce reached out as if to touch Jason's forehead to determine if his fever had subsided.

The steel-blue pupils didn't miss the flash of disgust in Jason's turquoise eyes.

"Looks like you're retiring, Ah Fu, bring some food to our children."

"Okay, Master Bruce"

An elderly man appeared in the doorway, still holding a bowl of hot food in his hand, which caused Jason's hungry bowels to grow.

"Hungry, you've slept all day, so you eat slowly, and tell Ah Fu if you have any requirements. Ah Fu, take good care of our little friends, I have to go out beforehand"

"Okay, Master Bruce"

Bruce left the room for Jason, changed into his gear, and headed for the Batcave.

As soon as the elevator door opened, an unhappy voice came:

"You shouldn't have adopted him"

"I didn't adopt him"

"Bruce, you know what I'm talking about"

Barbara walked over and stopped between Bruce and the computer.

Bruce just looked down at her and sat around her in the swivel chair in front of the computer.

"That kid is completely different from Dick, he's the lowest guy in Gotham"

"I didn't know you were discriminating against them"

"I'm not discriminating against them, don't distort my words, you should know, he is definitely not such a simple boy, he can survive without a guardian in that environment, this is enough to show that he is not a simple child"

Bruce looked at the computer screen, and all he could think of was the smile that had risen after Jason's flash of disgust....

"Of course he is not simple, he can't survive at the bottom of Gotham"

From the first time he saw the child, Bruce discovered that he was strong, but not strong enough for a teenager to live at the bottom of Gotham, so he was wary, and maybe not even inferior to him. And these are just the elements of the early stage, and the most important thing is that he is very smart.

For the two sandwiches he took out, he did not snatch the one that was in good packaging, but the one he had eaten, because the boy knew that only the one he had eaten could not contain anything strange...... But after all, it's a child, and I still don't think about what to do if it's just the bite he bites and there is no problem.

Bruce smiled and shook his head, continuing his search.

“.... Bruce, you know what I'm talking about. You should know how important your identity is to the guys in the Gotham Underground."

Bruce didn't answer, he certainly knew very well how many people in Gotham's underground were offering a reward for his true identity.

"If the kid senses something and runs out and talks nonsense..."

Barbara didn't say any more, the kid, unlike Dick, didn't have any reason to be hostile to sin, and even sin might be his way of surviving, so he had nothing to trust.

Bruce still had his back to her, still tapping on the keyboard for something.

"Bruce!"

'I didn't mean to ask him to replace Dick, Barbara, don't worry'

"Wh. No, I'm just...."

"I didn't mean to involve him, and then I would send him to boarding school, and when he graduated, he would be almost an adult."

“........ Is it just sympathy? ”

Barbara's questioning caused Bruce to pause briefly before continuing his work.

"Mr. Pennyworth, may I ask why I am here?"

Jason's sudden question caught Alfred's attention, not at all like polite language from the bottom of society and....

"Why do you know my surname is Pennyworth?"

"No one in Gotham doesn't know Bruce Wayne's butler."

“... That's right, Master Bruce brought you back."

“... Did he pick me up? ”

“..... I don't know about that."

"Oh"

"Is there anything else you need?"

“... Excuse me, there's a puppy with me..."

"You mean Ace? The custom-made kennel for him just arrived and he slept happily."

“...... Will you adopt it? ”

"Of course, Master Bruce named it Ace, or did it originally have a name?"

"No.. Nope"

"So what else is there to do?"

"No.. Thank you very much... I.. Sleepy"

"Oh, I'm so sorry, you've had a fever for a day, you must be tired, please rest well tonight."

Alfred helped Jason cover the quilt and exited the room.

As he was walking towards the kitchen, he suddenly remembered a question:

“... Strange, Master Jason didn't ask us if we were going to adopt him? ”

Considering Jason's strange behavior and the strange politeness that didn't quite fit Jason's identity, Alfred frowned, turned around and changed his destination, walking towards the large grandfather clock that led to the Batcave.
