Chapter XII: New Cases

Batman walks into a somewhat dilapidated room where a burglary murder has just taken place. The room was still filled with the smell of blood, and the deceased was a family of three.

The man was African-American and the woman was a Latino, the child was mixed-race, the cause of death was a shooting, according to the information available to the police, the robbers broke into the house and immediately shot and killed the man who came to open the door, and then immediately rushed to the second floor to chase and kill the woman who was attracted by the riot and also killed the child.

What the police couldn't understand was that there was nothing particularly valuable missing in the house, and of course, there was nothing particularly valuable in this kind of family.

The police judged that it was likely to be a homicide caused by other causes, and that the robbery was nothing more than a cover.

Batman walked around this simple room, a small warehouse converted house, the upper floors of the apartment are divided into two floors by a wooden staircase, the lower floor has a living room with an open kitchen and a bathroom, the staircase occupies half of the upper floor and the other half is the separate bedroom that is separated. This kind of condition is already a very good level at the bottom of Gotham, and it can be seen that at least the men in this family should have a regular job with a decent income, and the women should also do something to subsidize the family.

There was also a large amount of blood on the wooden staircase, which was caused by the woman who was shot and tried to get from above to below, but only to lose her foot and roll down. Pushing open the upstairs door, the blood was all over the floor, and the child died on the spot.

Batman stood in the middle of the bedroom and recalled the information Gordon had given him, which mentioned that from the social relations around the man, the vendetta was unlikely, and he was an honest guy who worked as a warehouse clerk in a company, and his colleagues commented that he was a good person who was a little silent.

[So is there anything particularly noteworthy?] 】

[Particularly noteworthy?] 】

[Before the crime, what was wrong with the family? 】

[What's unusual?] Well.... According to his colleague, I don't know why he seems to be particularly happy lately, like winning the lottery]

"Did you win the lottery?"

Batman thought back to the news he had received from Gordon and looked around when there was a noise downstairs.

Two men sneaked in through the doorway, turned on a small flashlight and began to search around the room.

Batman hides in the shadows, carefully observing the two uninvited guests, guessing their purpose.

Just looking for something cheap? Or is there some other purpose?

The two of them were not aware that their actions were being monitored by Batman the whole time, and they still searched around the room on their own.

"Did you find it?"

"No, do you think you're not here?"

"Sure is in his hands"

"But didn't the police search around?"

"Who knows, let's look again"

From the conversation between the two men, Batman confirms his guess that they are in league with the guy who assassinated the family.

What are they looking for? Batman took advantage of the darkness to move a little closer to where the two men were.

"Strange? Did you hear anything? ”

"Rumors, hurry up and find it"

Batman was secretly watching the two of them roll around like headless flies.

"This doesn't work, you can't find it at dawn, you go upstairs to find it"

One guy who seemed to have a higher status asked the other to look for it in the upstairs bedroom, and the two people who had been together went their separate ways.

"Looking for anything more?"

"Look for it again.."

The guy who was looking around with his head buried instinctively wanted to answer, but suddenly noticed something unusual. Before he could turn back, he was lifted up by a powerful arm.

The dark shadow blocked the moonlight from the window, staring like a grim reaper at the man who had fallen to the ground.

"Bat ....."

Feeling the oppression of Gotham lore so close that this guy seems to have changed to aphasia, and there is no way to say a complete sentence.

The man didn't look like he had killed the family at all, and his fear didn't seem to be faked.

"What are you looking for?"

Batman came closer, and asked again in his characteristic voice.

β€œ... Look for.. Look for... Look for... This.. This..."

The man answered Batman's question with a slurred gesture.

"Chips?"

The answer, barely guessed from the man's unclear words and flying gestures, was answered in the affirmative from the man's vigorously nodding head.

"Who told you to come?"

To this question, the man shook his head vigorously to answer.

"Answer me...."

Batman came closer, enveloping the man in his shadow.

β€œ... I... I really don't know...."

A gunshot interrupted the conversation between the two men, Batman looked at the guy standing in the door with a gun, both he and the guy lying on the ground were fresh faces, judging from their trembling legs, these two guys should be just ordinary gangsters, maybe they haven't even touched a gun before, and they shouldn't be the murderers who killed this family.

"Put... Let him go..."

The newcomer gave orders to Batman with little confidence.

Two more gunshots rang out, and Batman chose to dodge for a while, dodging the guns and then quickly moving away from the place, and then disappearing into the darkness again, ready to wait for the opportunity.

"Quick.. Hurry up."

After seeing Batman's figure disappear from the room again, the two of them did not look around for the disappeared Batman, but desperately wanted to leave the room. Batman stood in the dark and watched quietly as the two men helped each other out of the house, jumped into the van parked outside, and then left the place in a puff of smoke.

Batman quietly followed the van and drove the broken car to a secluded cabin in the middle of nowhere.

As soon as the car stopped, the two of them entered the villa, and Batman landed lightly on the roof, finding a suitable angle to peek into the room through the window.

Two people entered the room, and there was already a person in the room who seemed to have been waiting for them.

"Where's the stuff?"

The two of them shook their heads decadently.

"No?"

The two men looked at each other and nodded.

"What are you doing without coming back, don't you still want to take money when you find something?"

The shrill voice showed the man's anger.

"That.. Sir, you can't say that, you told us to look for something, but no... I'm going to have to pay for some errands."

Hearing this, Batman has almost rationalized the relationship between these three people. Those two men were hired by the people in the hut, and the hired guy, whom he also knewβ€”the Mad Hatter.

Looking at the guy in the house who sent the two people away, Batman's eyes narrowed.
