Chapter Twenty-Four: Counting is Counting

Alfred carefully packed the famous paintings and some valuable old books in the Wayne Manor collection into a special box. glanced at Bruce, who was standing not far away, staring blankly at the sunset outside the window, sighed and continued his work.

He still didn't agree with Bruce's decision, at least allowing him to deliberately hide some out-of-print and genuine works while knowing the true nature of the situation.

From the establishment of the Wayne family to the present, there are still many out-of-print ancient books in the collection of authentic paintings in Wayne Manor, and some manuscripts are likely to only exist in the study of Wayne Manor in the current era.

But Bruce stubbornly believes that if you want to do it, you have to be real, so he asks Alfred to include the most valuable famous paintings and ancient books in this bait.

After looking at the famous paintings on display in the gallery, Alfred finally selected some of the most artistic and historical paintings, took them out of the sealed frame, carefully rolled them up with special wrapping paper and put them into the packing boxes, and then watched the moving company throw all the packed boxes into the compartment of the box car one by one.

"These are very valuable things, so please handle them with care."

Alfred said very unceremoniously to the "workers". He had already checked, and the license plate of the car was fake, and it was "Bruce. Wayne" to find the "moving company".

"Then Ah Fu, I'll go and send things over, and I'll be back soon"

"Do you need me to pick you up?"

"No, I'll drive myself back"

With that, Bruce sat in the passenger seat of the car, the contrast between the expensive suit and the somewhat worn car.

After the "workers" loaded the last box into the car, they also entered the compartment and closed the door of the box.

After watching the inexplicable car leave, Alfred made a phone call:

"Sheriff Gordon... Yes, the car just left, and the license plate number is ....."

After providing Gordon with the requested information, Alfred went to the batcave located below the manor, opened the map on the computer, and several red dots were moving rapidly on the two-dimensional map on the computer.

“... It should be almost."

Looking at the movement of the red dot, Alfred adjusted the frequency of the headset, and when he received the specified frequency, he said:

"Master Bruce, it's time to wake up!"

Alfred's voice was accompanied by a slight burst of electricity from the built-in communicator in Bruce's left ear, awakening Bruce's confused consciousness.

The feeling of being forcibly awakened from hypnosis was not pleasant, and Bruce waited for a moment for the feeling of a small pinprick to disappear.

When he regained consciousness, Bruce still looked ahead with a blank face, but observed the driver sitting next to him with his peripheral vision.

"Boss, there's always a car behind us."

A small window connecting the trailer box to the cockpit was opened, and a male voice came from inside.

"Slivers?"

"Probably"

"I'll get rid of them later, and I'll change the license plate."

“Ok”

The man kicked the accelerator and the trailer ran like an angry bull on the road, scurrying around the labyrinthine old town of Gotham, the black sedan that had been following quickly disappeared from view, and after parking the car in an alley, the driver said to the people behind:

"Changed the license plate, removed the sticker on the car, and went to the boss"

After a loud noise came from the box behind it, I heard the voice say:

"Okay"

The car was once again started out of the dimly lit alley, and the fancy moving company car turned into a nondescript gray trailer and headed for the suburbs.

Bruce sat in the car until it pulled into a warehouse and stopped. A man he knew all too well was waiting for the car in the middle of the warehouse.

The driver went down and walked over to the mad hatter and said something to him, saw the man behind him in the rearview mirror, and carried the packed boxes out of the car.

While Bruce was quietly adjusting the camera and recording equipment on his tie clip while everyone's attention was not on the car, he suddenly heard the Mad Hatter ask:

"Strange why didn't you come down?"

"God knows, your hypnotism didn't work."

"It is impossible for the failure to weaken to the point that it is possible, and there is no way to do this kind of thing, everyone has a different physique, and the degree of hypnosis is also different."

The Mad Hatter walked over to the box cart as he spoke, opened the door of the deputy's car, and circled Bruce in front of Bruce with the crutch he had been holding in his hand, the tip of the crutch flashed with a slight green light, which Bruce knew was the same rhythm as the light on the chip.

"Hey! Do you want to hypnotize us all?"

The head of the transport protested dissatisfiedly.

"Do you know what hypnosis is, if it was such a simple thing, I would have been the president of the United States a long time ago, and doing so would only strengthen the previous hypnotic effect"

"That's good, oh, the goods have been unloaded and paid"

He's just a guy who makes a living by running black cars and transporting things that no one else dares to transport, and he doesn't want to have much to do with this madman.

"Get the check yourself on the table over there"

The mad hatter said unhappily that he didn't have time to take care of the guy right now, he just wanted to get Bruce off the incoming car, and there were more important things to do after that.

Before the Mad Hatter's patience could run out, Bruce finally got out of the car and followed the Mad Hatter all the way to the table.

"Then let's go, and if you still have a job, call it, boss"

It's unclear exactly how many numbers the Mad Hatters put on these guys' checks, but it's clearly a number they're happy with.

"Come.. Sit down"

The Mad Hatter still "directed" Bruce to sit down on the only chair in front of the table, and then placed a document in front of Bruce and said in a childish tone:

"Come, sign this document..."

Bruce slowly signed his name on it as he quickly skimmed through the general contents of the document.

Guessing from what you see in your line of sight, this is a letter of authorization for the transfer of the latest nanochip patent from Wayne Enterprises.

The mad hatter, this guy really doesn't give up, and he can steal what he can't steal.

Bruce hadn't debunked the Mad Hatter, it wasn't time yet, the empty warehouse was clearly a makeshift stop, and there was nothing but the boxes he had arrived with today.

With a slight movement on his wrist, he changed the handwriting on the paper, and then patiently waited for the Mad Hatter's next command.

Famous paintings and ancient books seem to have not satisfied the madman with the transfer of the latest chip patents, and he took out another document for Bruce to sign, this time Bruce signed it without changing his handwriting, this is a transfer authorization form, if Bruce does not use his own notes to sign, it means that the money that has been transferred cannot be traced through the banking system.

After watching with satisfaction as Bruce signed the two papers, the Mad Hatter exited through a side door of the warehouse and quickly drove in a small box truck.

"Help me get my stuff up"

The Mad Hatter commanded Bruce, who quickly lifted all the boxes into the cart. The Mad Hatter looked at his masterpiece with satisfaction, then sat in the driver's seat and commanded Bruce with a swagger:

"Go back, go back and forget all about today!"

Then he kicked the accelerator and drove the small box car out of the warehouse.

After the car completely disappeared from view, Bruce pressed the communicator in his ear and said:

"Is it all recorded?"

"Of course, sir, but I still don't agree with your signing of the document."

"Tell Lucius to track down the money"

"Okay sir, the Batmobile has arrived at its intended location ten minutes ago"

"Got it"

Bruce walked out of the warehouse, it was already pitch black outside, and it was already time for Batman.

Following the signal, Bruce found the Batmobile hidden in the nearby bushes, changed into his equipment, looked at the densely moving red dots on the navigation map, and quietly started the car and followed.
