Chapter 10: The Path to Progress (Part I)
The voice of the old witch Buthera returned to the young man's ear from the end of the corridor.
Finn immediately came back to his senses and turned his head in the direction of the side of the hallway, and then saw a middle-aged man with long black hair walk into his field of vision under the introduction of the Tieflin Witch.
The man's black hair, draped behind his back and on both sides of his shoulders, exposed his forehead and was neatly combed in the middle. He wore a plain shirt and trousers, two ice-blue eyes embedded in the frames, and a beard with a frame of mouth that added a sharp and mature color to his handsome countenance.
The young man turned to look at the man who was walking towards him.
To that man, the young man named Finn may have been just a stranger who had never met each other, but for the young paladin, this man had left an extremely deep impression on his memory, and he could even be said to be one of the most unforgettable natives of the game in Finn's previous life.
For no other reason - the black-haired man's name was Vercidis.
Nightblade Versidis, leader of the Templar Knights of Shadowlight, the last Shadowlight Knight of the Fourth Age, and a human hero of the Tidetide War, alongside Roderick the Silver Lion and Ironwall Konush.
Barthra walked beside Vercidis, bringing the leader of the Knights of Shadowlight to Finn, then took two steps back respectfully like a knight's servant. Versidis glanced intently at Finn, his mustache opening into a friendly grin at the corners of his mouth, and the young paladin then heard him look into his eyes and asked, "Why do you know I'm here?" β
"The shadow of the light guides meβ"
"I want to hear it."
The middle-aged Shadow Knight interrupted the young man with a smile on his face.
Finn stared at the man's smiling face, and then remembered that the person in front of him was not the stereotypical Mithril Knight. So he relaxed his expression a little, withdrew his serious tone, and replied to the other party in his usual tone: "I have seen Mr. Konush in Azur Harbor. β
"Konush?" Hearing the name from Finn's mouth, the black-haired knight went into a daze. Then he looked back at the young man's face with interest, "Did he recommend you to meet me?" β
"I chose to meet you." The young paladin wittily bypassed the previous question, and by the way, he also followed the middle-aged knight's words to indicate his intentions, "I wanted to be a Knight of Shadowlight, so I came here. β
"Really?" Versidis smiled, and his two ice-blue pupils might have seen through the young man's little cleverness just now, but he didn't say it. It seems that he has no intention of exposing his juniors.
At the end of the sentence, the middle-aged Shadow Knight said, "Follow me," and walked towards the door at the end of the hallway.
As soon as Versidis passed her, Barthra walked behind to keep up with the knight. Fein looked at the knight's back, thought for a moment, and followed, and after about half a minute, the man led him through the other door to the interior of an underground auditorium.
This room, hidden under the cloister, is more than half smaller than the auditorium of the Cathedral of Tiamagos. The number of facilities in the hall is small. But there are many kinds of things, such as benches, altars, and statues.
After entering the small auditorium, Vercidis turned around and said that Barcera could go back to rest first. The old witch Tieflin, who had a pair of huge horns on her forehead, obeyed Vercidis's arrangement, she still glanced at Finn with a little uneasy, then bowed slightly to the middle-aged knight in front of her, took the candlestick in her hand and left the small hall along the way she came, and closed the door of the hall with her hand, making a "bang" that was not too loud.
After Basera leaves. The only people in the small hall were Vercidis and Finn.
The middle-aged Knight of Shadow watched the old witch who had followed him leave the room, and then continued with the young paladin. Walk down the aisle between the two vertical benches to the altar at the end of the chapel, raise your hand and ask Finn, who is standing on the right side of the altar, "Do you know who he is?" β
As soon as Finn entered the small hall, he noticed that the layout of the hall was different from that of a traditional auditorium, with no statues of gods or other symbols representing the gods placed on the altar, but two statues standing in front of the walls on either side of the altar.
The statue that Vercidis was pointing at was not difficult to identify, and Finn looked in the direction of his finger, and then replied with the answer that the former wanted: "Gazteis, the god of justice." β
"What about him?" After receiving the expected answer, the middle-aged Knight of Shadow turned and pointed to another statue.
"Britta." The young paladin's gaze turned with the Knight of Shadowlight, "The god of tyranny, the creator of the dragon of destruction, Nesalian, in the literal sense of the word. β
"You know he's an evil god." The black-haired middle-aged knight walked behind the young man with his hands behind his back, "So, why are you standing in front of the evil god now?" Do you want to pray to Him? β
Didn't you bring me here? - Conventional ways of thinking may lead people to ask such rhetorical questions.
But Fein knew that Vercidis's words meant something else, so he replied: "It is only natural to face one's enemies and turn one's back to one's allies." β
"I didn't ask you any of these things." The middle-aged Shadow Knight spoke innocently.
"But you want me to see that, don't you?" The young paladin turned his head sideways, smiling.
Two Templar clergy stood under the ceiling of the Chapel and stared at each other for two seconds.
After a while, a look of relief appeared on Vercidis' face, and the leader of the Templar Order nodded approvingly, then drew a silver sword from the scabbard at his waist with his right hand.
"Young man, your name."
"Finn Noe Ozerit."
"Finn Noe Ozelit, look back at Britta."
The knight with the silver sword stood behind the young man and asked, and the young paladin knew that the advanced ritual was coming, so he followed the middle-aged knight's request and turned his gaze back to the statue of the tyrannical god Britta again.
Finn raised his chin and looked up at the face of the evil god, and Vercidis stood behind him, raising his arm and placing the spine of the silver sword on his shoulder, like a knightly monarch, and said, "In the name of justice, the descendants of the Knights of the Apocalypse are still mindful of their duty, and always proud of their courage to face evil. The splendor of glory illuminates people's hearts, and the shadow of light extends forward into darkness. As we try to play the shadow of the light, we must make a vow to dare to protect the light behind us without shame, and to stand out from evil with a heroic posture, while never forgetting our own virtues, consciousness, and beliefs. β
"I swearβ" replied the young man in a solemn tone, "the splendor of glory illuminates the heart, and the shadow of light extends forward into darkness." From now on, I will play the role of a shadow of light, dare to protect the light behind me without shame, and stand in the face of evil with a heroic attitude, while never forgetting my own virtues, consciousness and faith. β
"Then, we ask the knight who brings glory into the shadow to make a promise, showing that he is willing to engrave this oath in his heart, even if the earth is barren and the sea is dry, he also understands that justice will not be covered by the dust of history, and there are always some precious ideals in the world that should never be forgotten and abandoned."
"I promise - I engrave this oath in the bottom of my heart that justice will not be covered by the dust of history, and there are always some precious ideals in the world that should never be forgotten and abandoned, even if the earth is barren and the sea is dry."
Finn took a deep breath and answered Vercidis's second paragraph.
When he heard his own words fall from his ears, a mysterious will seemed to build a bridge of laws between a certain part of the world and his body, and a new force merged into his body with a majestic momentum, that feeling was a bit like what he experienced when Hurengel obtained the inheritance of the Knight of the Apocalypse, but there were some subtle differences, on the whole, it seemed to be recognized by a certain law of the mortal world, so that he saw the following information in the pop-up prompt of the game system in an instant-
