Chapter 13: The Trap
After the small lantern in Lulunaka's hand went out, the others felt the change very intuitively. It was just a gadget burning with a strange blue fire, but they felt the temperature around them drop significantly. In this place, which was still spacious and bright, a pale white fog rose from the ground.
"What did you do?" Olga turned to look at Lulunaka. Lulunaka held a small and delicate lantern with an innocent look, "You have wronged me, Lord Olga. It's not what I did, it's what I didn't do. β
Lulunaka said this more substantially, and Julius didn't immediately understand what it meant, but Olga and Patin were different. Patin looked around at the white mist that was slowly rising around him, and had already left the vicinity of the building, walked to the middle of the square, and stood with Olga and Julius and the others. The three of them happened to be standing in the middle of the circle of stone bricks of different colors on the ground.
"So, we got here so safely all the way, except for a few beasts and demonic beasts that happened to appear, nothing else jumped out, is it all because you did something?"
Lulunaka tossed the lantern in her palm to Julius. Julius hurriedly took what Luluna threw at him, and Julius looked at the lantern that had already reached his hand, "I've never seen a lantern so small...... It's like an ornament, how can it be lit and keep the flame on?"
"If you want to know, you can tear it down and see how it works, if you have that knowledge, of course, otherwise you'll just waste one of my valuable items. Lulunaka said, "Besides, I think it's worth a lot of money, and I'll be heartbroken if it breaks." β
What is the value of something that Lulunaka would feel heartbroken for using a bomb worth hundreds of gold coins? Julius couldn't imagine it, his hand trembled a little, and the lantern almost fell to the ground, so frightened that he held the lantern tightly in his hand.
"I'm a little worried that you're going to crush it when you hold it like that. Lulunaka shrugged, "It's not that fragile though, you don't have to be that nervous." Speaking of which, Lulunaka looked at Olga and Pattin, "Speaking of which, now is not the time for small talk, what do you think this fog will bring?"
"Is it up to us to say this?" Patin said.
Lulunaka smiled, "You're still in the mood to laugh at times like this, Mr. Edgar, you don't seem to be as nervous as the kid next to youβand Master Olga, you do have a heart that is not afraid of danger." Although I think it's better to be a little nervous at this point, because God knows what's going to happen, right?"
Paddy didn't think he was funny, and he didn't mean to tease Lulunaka. This fog was undoubtedly no ordinary fog, and the fog made his body tense, and his attention spread to his surroundings, and he was fully on guard of everything around him. He wasn't a rookie like Julius, and as a former knight who had fought countless battles, he had a keen sense of danger β especially in this fog that smelled of ominous death. The mist that came out of the ground was so cold that it chilled my body.
Olga wasn't a knight, but he had the same feelings as Pattin, just different. Patin is more sensitive to the breath of death, while Olga senses possible hostility. "What the hell is going to happen?" Olga asked Lulunaka after Pattin, "I don't want to die in a messβat least I want to know what the hell is coming." β
In this square that is not large, but it is spacious for a few people, a strange white mist keeps rising. The surrounding buildings that no one knows exactly what style enclosed the square, leaving only a few roads leading to the outside of the square. Fog emerges from both the ground and from buildings without doors and windows, like a monster with its eyes and mouth open to highlight the smoke. When the fog lifted, the square was completely closed, and the people standing on the circular pattern on the ground could no longer see the way they came from, nor could they see the road that led to the unknown place. In the eyes of Olga and the others, they could only see buildings shrouded in fog, and even the sky could not be seen realistically.
The only good thing is that the surrounding environment is not darkened and there is still light, but under the white fog, it looks even more unreassuring. This pale world, cold, seems to have no temperature anymore.
At this point, Lulunaka walked to the center of the circular floor and stood between the three of Olga. "What will come out...... The rumored northern part of the Forest of the Dead is home to a large number of undead creatures. So is this rumor true? Because no one has entered the north for decades, and the last time there was a large-scale and planned entry into the north was even longer than it was decades ago?"
Lulunaka fiddles with her cane, seemingly unoblivious to the anomalies in her surroundings. If she hadn't lied, the scene would be not because she had done something, but because she had not done anything. At least to the others, Lulunaka wasn't a devil who liked to lie to tease others - or rather, sometimes she was worse than the devil, and lying was not her preference, she preferred to tell only half the truth, and then say nothing, leaving only room for others to guess. It's as if guessing right or wrong is no longer her problem.
"What are you going to do now?" Olga continued, "or what are you going to let us do?"
"Wait a minute. Lulunaka crouched down, her ears pressed to the ground, and closed her eyes. Both Olga and Patiny knew that this was a way to hear a lot of footsteps, and if there was a slight quivering chirp on the ground, it meant that there was a large number of people or creatures moving.
Lulunaka closed her eyes, and after a while, stood up again and patted the dust on her body, "There is good news and bad news. The good news is that I haven't heard anything, which means that there's no bone frame thing coming this way, and if that kind of thing were to come this way in hundreds or thousands, it would probably be flattened here. I don't like that, I still like it. β
"There's also bad news. Patin said.
"The bad news is, while there's not going to be a skeleton of bones coming and stabbing you to death with their ribs, I don't know what that's going to come at this point. In this white mist, it may be a spirit demon or a ghost warrior...... Or maybe the banshees will come and join in the fun, but the banshees aren't very fond of group action, so it's probably not a big deal. β
"If it's going to be the stuff you're talking about, then I think we'd better get out of the way we came. "I can deal with monsters with flesh, even those with bones. But there is no physical thing, and I usually ask a professional to help. β
"I used to be a professional. "But not anymore. And I don't think we're the right people right now, so we can deal with spirits. β
"Ghost warrior, girlfriend?" Julius became more and more nervous as he listened to Olga and Pattin's words, "what are those? And what are the spirits?"
"If you want to know what an astral demon is, you can probably see it if you stay here. Lulunaka laughed, "Of course, if the Astral Demon is actually here and shows some level of friendliness. I think it's more difficult than talking to Mr. Tours. β
"I don't recommend it. "Whether it's a person or something, as long as you're still alive, it's best not to have any contact with the spirits. β
"Mr. Edgar, you used to be a Knight of the Church, and I'm not surprised you know about Astral Demons. Lulunaka said, "Did you ever have the luck to meet an Astral Demon? That's a rare thing, and Astral Demon doesn't mean you can meet it." β
Patin just shook his head, not following Lulunaka's words. It wasn't a pleasant memory, but it almost broke Pattin.
Even Patin had such a solemn expression that Julius became even more nervous. "Shouldn't we get out of here?" he said.
"As a hero, how can you be considered a hero if you haven't defeated an existence like an Astral Demon?" Lulunaka said to Julius. Lulunaka's words made Olga nervous too, "Please don't mess with this kid, Lulunaka. I remembered something, what you call the spirit demons, we also have them in Yilan, but they are not by this name - our priests, they are called ......"
"Soul Sucker, right?" Lulunaka continued, continuing what Olga was trying to say, "The name does give a more intuitive sense of what it really is. But if you want me to say anything, it's not very appropriate, I think ......."
Lulunaka didn't continue, but looked up at the sky, even though it was already covered in white mist. "I don't know if you're lucky or unlucky, but it seems that the one who came here is indeed a spirit demon. β
"It's time for us to leave!" shouted Pattin, "let alone knock down something like that, our human soul is not enough for a spirit demon to choke between his teeth." β
Lulunaka pointed to the fog that was gradually gathering around her, "This is not a good idea, if you rush into the fog at this time, you may not be able to come back in this life - you may become a skeleton, you may become a ghost, and if you are a woman like me, you may still have a chance to be a banshee...... But I think we're more likely to be eaten as a snack. β
"It's not funny at all. Julius clutched the lantern in his hand, and the unusual scenery around him made him completely panicked. He had never seen anything like it, and the nervous appearance of Olga and Padin also made him feel a lot of pressure.
After defeating Roque himself, although the final result was a bit unsatisfactory, Julius still thought that he had grown in his heart. But now it seems that his growth is simply not enough to cope with the current situation, because even Olga and Patin, it seems that they are helpless.
And the man who brought them into this dead end now has a smile on his face, without the slightest nervousness.
"Don't worry, although people always die, if you die like this, there is no value. Lulunaka said. Then she stuck her cane in the ground, where it was in the center of the circular pattern on the ground. The cane was firmly inserted into the gap between the stone bricks, and even if Lulunaka let go of her hand, she stood upright and did not fall.
Then, the pattern is recessed downward. The four people standing on it fell down.
