Chapter II

Chinese New Year's Eve, a slightly blessed Gray, sat behind the dining room's large marble table, his hands crossed and his head silent, waiting for his young and beautiful fiancée to bring out delicious dishes from the kitchen.

When Dilly brought the last dish to the table, she untied her apron and sat down across from Gray.

At this point, Gray held his head in his hands and looked at his fiancée motionlessly: although Dilly was only four years younger than him, she looked younger than her actual age. She was fair-skinned and well-proportioned, with large black eyes and long brown hair.

Deeli noticed that Gray had been staring at her, and she asked, "Honey, what are you looking at?" ”

"I'm admiring a masterpiece from above." Gray said, "Honey, you're so charming. ”

"Oh, Gray, thank you for the compliment." Dilly shook her head and smiled, "But please don't choose when I first come out of the kitchen." I believe that the only thing that can charm me now is the smell of oil smoke and onions. ”

"Even if it's so, I like it."

"Alright, don't flam. Gray, try my cooking. ”

Gray took a piece of fried steak into his mouth and said, "Top notch." ”

"Thank you." Deeli raised her glass, "Cheers, Gray, for our new home." ”

"For our new home." Gray smiled and raised his glass, touched it with Dilly, and drank it down.

Ten minutes after eating, Dilly looked at Gray and said, "Honey, can you tell me now?" Why have we known each other for more than half a year, and today you told me that you have such a luxurious house? ”

"Because I want to surprise you." Gray raised an eyebrow and said.

"But what about the little apartment you used to live in? You're not going to spend money to rent another bachelorette apartment and leave such a nice house empty just to surprise me? The price is too high. ”

"Dilly, you see, this house is good, but it is a villa built on the outskirts. It's too far from where I work. It would be inconvenient for me to stay here. "And I don't have to live in such a big house when I'm alone." ”

Dilly nodded thoughtfully.

After a while, she frowned slightly and said, "Gray, I can see that this house must be worth a lot of money. Well, I don't understand a little...... How do you have a house this big? ”

Gray shrugged: "Obviously, with the income of an ordinary civil servant like me, it is impossible to afford such a big house - this house is handed down by our ancestors. When I was twenty-seven years old, after my father died of illness, I became the owner of the house. But I hardly ever stayed here. ”

"Oh......" Dilly looked very interested, "and this house must have some history, right?" ”

Gray took a sip of wine and nodded: "It should be more than a hundred years old, according to my father, it was designed and built by a famous French architect during the Republic of China." ”

"No wonder," said Dilly, looking up at the magnificent reliefs on the ceiling, "I think there is something unusual about the architecture of this house, as if it had been written by a master." ”

"You're so interested in architecture?"

"Honey, you seem to have forgotten what I studied." Dilly looked at Gray and said.

"Oh, yes." Gray patted his head, "You are engaged in garden design, and you should also have some research on architecture." ”

Di Li shook her head: "I can't talk about research, but I just know a little bit about it." ”

After a few bites of food, Dili seemed to remember something again: "You just said that you hardly live in this house, so who will feed Kaz?" ”

"I've always kept Kaz at the next door neighbor's house. The hostess was very fond of dogs, and she was very lonely at home after her husband's death, and she wanted to have a sensible dog to keep her company—she seemed a little reluctant when I brought Kaz back from her house yesterday. ”

"If it were me, it would." "Kaz is a cute, human dog. ”

Gray nodded, and he filled his two glasses with wine again.

After drinking the fifth glass, Deeli's voice became less fluid, her eyes began to fog, and she said with a drunken feeling, "Gray, you know what? I came to this city from out of town alone, and I didn't know the place well, and I didn't even find a job...... But, I met you. You have done so much for me and provided me with such a nice place to live...... I, really appreciate your ......"

"Oh, dear, you're drunk." Gray left his seat and walked over to Deeley, holding her with both hands, "What other words of thanks do you have to tell me?" ”

"No, Gray. I really thought so, it was a miracle that I could meet you......"

"Alright, alright." Gray helped her up, "I'll take you upstairs to the bedroom to rest." ”

"Okay." "But don't hold me, I don't think I'm drunk enough, just hold my hand, Gray." ”

He nodded submissively, then took his fiancée's hand and walked up to a master bedroom on the second floor.

Pushing the door open, Deli walked straight to the warm, soft bed. Lying in bed, I fell asleep in less than five minutes.

Gray covered her with a quilt and said softly, "Have a good dream." Then leave the room.

That night, Deli slept soundly.

The first night passed quietly.
