Chapter 188: Shakyamuni's Buddhahood

Queen Maya was 10 months pregnant, and one day she led the ladies of the court to roam the Lumbini Gardens. It was the beginning of April, and the wind was beautiful and the life was flowing. The garden is full of fragrant grass, flowers, trees and lotus roots, full of auspicious and festive atmosphere.

After a week of wandering through the gardens, Queen Maya rested in the shade of a tree-free greenery. When she saw that the branches and leaves of the tree were luxuriant, soft and low, and that the flowers and fruits on the tree were bright and fragrant, she lifted up her hand to pick the flowers and fruits, and the prince was born.

The Buddhist scriptures say that a prince can speak when he is born and walk without support. He shone brightly, his gaze was in all directions, and he walked seven steps, and a lotus flower appeared on the ground at each step. For a time, the fragrant wind was scattered, the flowers and rain were colorful, the fairy music was harmonious, and the gods and people praised in unison. Two springs naturally gushed out of the ground, one cold and one warm, fragrant and pure.

When the King of Pure Rice had a son, he was very happy and named him Siddhartha, which means that when he was born, he had many strange and auspicious meanings.

Just seven days after Shakyamuni was born, his mother, Queen Maya, died of illness.

The King of Pure Rice came from sorrow and mourning, and looking back on the young prince, he was even more compassionate. So he took Queen Maya's sister, Mahabo, into the palace and entrusted her with the care of the prince.

Mahabo Japhati was virtuous and benevolent, and regarded Prince Siddhartha as his own, and loved him for ten minutes. Prince Siddhartha in his childhood was intelligent and unsurpassed. He was carefully guarded by his aunt, and when he was warm and cold, he ate well, he ate in moderation, his body was unusually healthy, and he grew very quickly, just like the Nishanda tree, which had to be planted with fertile soil, and it was growing day by day.

Prince Siddhartha in his youth was pure and clean. He was very tired of the hustle and bustle of life in the court, and often thought of going out to enjoy the natural scenery.

One day, he took a seven-treasure wheel car, traveled from the east gate, and saw an old man, bent his back, holding a bamboo cane, walking with difficulty, like an ant. Prince Siddhartha suddenly felt the hardships of life, and his heart was particularly depressed.

Another day, when he was traveling from the south gate, he saw a sick man, with a yellowish complexion, withered, panting and groaning, and in pain. Prince Siddhartha took pity on the sick and was terrified.

Another day from the west gate of the trip, saw a dead man, straight and stiff, bruises overflowing, the smell is unpleasant, the family is old and young, crying to see him off. Prince Siddhartha felt it again, and was terrified and depressed.

Another day, Prince Siddhartha went out to the north gate to play, and saw a monk with a dome in a robe, good looks, clear spirit, and majestic manners. When the monk told him to practice the path of liberation, the prince decided to renounce the pleasures of wealth and pleasure and deliberately practice in order to be free from the suffering of "old age", "sickness" and "death".

Prince Siddhartha begged his parents for permission to become a monk, but the King of Pure Rice and Lady Mahapathati wept and did not allow them. He also asked his parents for four wishes: one not to grow old, two not to get sick, three not to die, and four not to say goodbye. He said that if he could fulfill his four vows, he would not leave home. When the King of Pure Rice heard this, he knew that he still wanted to become a monk, and he was especially reunited.

In desperation, the King of Pure Rice worked hard to make people build a palace where flowers bloom in spring, summer and autumn, and added all kinds of wonderful songs and dances to please the prince's ears and eyes, and made people vigilant and guarded, and did not leave for a while, wanting the prince to get rid of the idea of leaving home.

Shakyamuni was not in the least impressed by the pleasures of the five desires. In the middle of the night on February 8, the moon was clear. He stood up, stared at his sleeping wife, Yalundra, and son, Rahula, and silently bid them farewell, and then went out of the room. He saw that the palace maids and the guards were all asleep, like wood and stone, and sighed again.

Prince Siddhartha said goodbye to his wife and children, and called the groom to hide the horse. The prince stepped on the white horse and walked out of the wall through the north gate, followed by the chariot. The Buddhist scriptures say that at the beginning of the horse's steps, the earth shook, the four heavenly kings held the horse's feet, and the Brahma Emperor released the banner to lead the way.

When the prince left the city, he made a vow: "If I don't live or die, I won't return to the palace; If I don't become a Buddha, I will never see my father again; If I don't fulfill my affection, I will never see my aunt, wife and children. ”

So, Prince Siddhartha and his groom hid in the chariot, rode one step at a time, and crossed the clear stream in the vast night. By the time dawn came, they had reached a hundred miles away, and they had reached the deep forest by the Abbami River, which was the place where the ancient Varkya immortals practiced asceticism.

When Prince Siddhartha saw that the mountains and forests here were lush and silent, his heart rejoiced, so he ordered Che Cheng to lead the horse back to the palace, but Che Cheng refused, and wept and persuaded him: "The prince grew up in the palace and enjoyed honor, and now he is in the mountains and forests, accompanied by thorns, insects and beasts, how can he withstand all these hardships and dangers?" The prince replied, "You need not say much, but you must know that I am in the palace, and although I am free from visible thorns, insects, and beasts, I am not free from invisible thorns, insects, and beasts, and I am now trying to relieve old age, sickness, and death, and to have eternal and true happiness." ”

After that, Prince Siddhartha thought to himself; If you do not shave your beard, you will not become a monk, but you will draw a golden sword, cut your hair with your hands, and vow: "I will shave my hair today, and I will cut off the troubles and habits with all sentient beings." Then a hunter came, dressed in a robe, and the prince exchanged his splendid garments, and became a monk.

Seeing this situation, the groom knew that it was irreparable, so he had to lead the horse to say goodbye and find his way back to the palace.

After Shakyamuni became a monk, he sought the Master in many ways in order to find the Path. When he saw many cultivators, either using grass as clothing, or starving without food, or with one foot crossed, or lying in the dust and thorns, or worshipping the sun and the moon, or serving water and fire, he did not think so, and knew that they were all foreign ways.

Later, Shakyamuni learned meditation from Arorakarama and Uthagarama, who lived in seclusion in caves. The former taught him to "follow the steps of contemplation and meditation" and attain the "Kingdom of Emptiness"; The latter read to him "a state that is neither psychological nor psychological".

So Shakyamuni sat alone in a cave, sitting cross-legged, facing the wall and meditating, in order to seek enlightenment. When he realized that there was no enlightenment, he changed his mind and decided to experience ascetic austerity in order to find liberation.

Shakyamuni came to the ascetic forest of the Gyalan Mountain by the Nirenzen River, and sat alone under the tree. He has no covering, no shelter from the wind and rain, no momentary movement of his eyes, no terror of his heart, abandons everything, puts it all down, or restricts his breathing, and his mind is terrified, like a needle piercing the bone; It is said that because he kept his heart and kept the precepts, he did not lie down, and even a great eagle nested and fed his chicks on his head, and the dung of his body was also listened to.

Shakyamuni has been practicing asceticism for six years, and he has gradually eaten one hemp and one wheat a day at the beginning, and gradually eclipsed one hemp and one wheat every seven days to the point that he does not drink or eat. Eventually, his body became extremely emaciated, like a dead tree, and his hands rubbed against his chest and abdomen, and he could touch his back.

One day, he suddenly realized that it was not easy to attain the path of liberation by excessive enjoyment, but blind asceticism would not lead to the path of enlightenment, so he decided to eat again and join the path again.

There are two cowherding women by the Nilian River, one Nanda and one Polo, who often drive cattle to graze green on the edge of the ascetic forest. In the prime of life, he watched the cow, bathed in the river, milked the milk, steamed it into chyle, filled the bowl, held it in front of him, and offered it.

Shakyamuni accepted the offering and made a vow: "Eat and drink today, and you will be able to inflate your strength, so as to preserve your wisdom and longevity, so as to save all sentient beings." He immediately took it.

Since then, Shakyamuni has been offered chyle by shepherdesherds every day. After a month, the body is strong and has returned to its former strength. He went to bathe and wash in the Nilian River, and felt even more cool and radiant.

After giving up his ascetic life, Shakyamuni came to the place known as Bodh Gaya, and sat down under a tall and dense Biboro tree. He made a vow: "If I don't attain enlightenment, I'd rather shatter this body than I will never be able to do it!" ”

He readjusted his method of practice, and sat under the Bodhi tree with the intention of meditating. His mind recalls past experiences, contemplates the dependent origin of life in the universe with great wisdom, and after a long period of reflection, enters a state of "understanding" or "awakening".

Reaching a situation where "neither satisfaction nor disappointment is known" seems to be the error disappearing, wisdom emerges, the darkness passes, and the light comes.

The Buddhist scriptures say that after Shakyamuni ascended under the Bodhi tree, he became a Bodhi Dao fruit auspicious light leaping into the heavens and the earth, and the Bodhi Dao fruit is the birth of the holy fruit of Mahayana Buddhism.

Sakyamuni is about to become a Buddha, and the auspicious light rushes to the demon palace of death and desire, and the demon king Bo Xun wants to prevent him from becoming a Buddha, so he orders three witches to go and bewitch him.

The three witches, a Trissina (lust), a Rotti (lust), and a Raja (greed), they are dressed up and decorated, Luo kills the wind, Lan Musk is lush, Ling Bo walks to Shakyamuni, courteous and flattering, peach-faced. But Shakyamuni was deeply silent and turned a blind eye, like a lotus flower out of the sludge without staining.

The three witches refused to give up, and tried their best to bewitch and bewitch themselves, and Shakyamuni admonished them: "Although you are in good shape, your heart is not right, like a beautiful glass bottle dung storage machine, you don't know your shame, do you dare to come to deceive people?" "And the magic power, so that the witch can see her own evil state, only to see the skeleton joints, skin and tendons, pus sacs and spit, ugly and filthy, after the witch saw it, her mind turned, ashamed and ashamed, prostrate and escaped.

The demon king Bo Xun was very angry when he saw that the witch was useless. He relied on his supernatural powers, summoned all his demon generals, demon soldiers, poisonous insects and monsters, brought poisonous thunder and poisonous arrows, and killed Shakyamuni like bees and ants.

Shakyamuni sat on the throne of Vajra without fear of alarm. The demon king's poisonous thunder and poisonous arrows were scattered everywhere they went. He told the Demon King, "The reason why I have attained the Bodhisattva Path is because since the three monks have been in the realm of the three monks for several eons, they have accumulated immeasurable merits and wisdom and completed the six ten thousand actions. When you come against me, don't you strike a stone with an egg and destroy yourself? ”

The demon king did not listen to the advice, blindly arrogant, and led the crowd forward, Shakyamuni's body was pure, and the demons all fell. The Emperor of Heaven asked the Bodhisattva to help, and the Bodhisattva made the Dharma, and the flood surged, and the demons and monsters were drowned in it, and they retreated in embarrassment.

Shakyamuni sat under the Bodhi tree for 48 days, it was the seventh day of the twelfth month, and on this night, the sky was clear and the wind was smooth. He sat silently on the Vajra throne, manifested all kinds of meditation realms, looked at the immeasurable worlds of the ten directions and all the things in the past and present worlds and future lives, and saw the cause and effect of the Three Realms.

"The Buddhist scriptures say that when Shakyamuni became a Buddha, the earth shook the heavens, the gods and people praised together, and the many sufferings of the three realms of hell, hungry ghosts, beasts, and beasts rested for a while, and the heavenly drums sounded in unison, making wonderful sounds, heavenly rain mandala flowers, manshusha flowers, golden flowers, silver flowers, glazed flowers, treasure flowers, seven treasure lotus, etc.

At this point, Shakyamuni had attained the bodhi path and began to teach his disciples the true meaning of the universe that he had realized. ”

Ye Mingchen said, "Pu Xingwen in the illusion will go through all this, but from the perspective of a bystander, and after going through all this, he will be tested by the ancestor of the demigods. ”
