Paris Incident: Chapter 3: Disappearances (3)
The other party seemed to be frightened, and the clothes in his hands fell to the ground.
"Mr. Walter?" Lady Frida was surprised and said, "How could it be you?"
"I...... I ......" Walter muttered, seemingly indescribable.
"Huh? Lady Frida, do you know him?" Elena asked, confused.
"Well," Mrs. Frida nodded, "Mr. Walter, my husband and I have been friends for many years, and we both work in the same laboratory."
"Really...... But when I was in the lab today, I didn't seem to have seen him." Elena struggled to remember the events of the day.
But she only had a slight impression, and she didn't remember it very clearly.
After all, if you are not a particularly handsome guy, it is difficult to impress Elena.
"I suppose you can take us to meet Mr. Frida?" Bella asked.
"I ......," Mr. Walter hesitated for a moment, and finally seemed to breathe a sigh of relief, "Forget it, I'll take you to him."
"Do you really know where my husband is?" Mrs. Frida was amazed and delighted.
"Yes." Walter replied, "We've been together all this time, and there's someone else."
As he spoke, he picked up the clothes he had just dropped and put them into a small box.
"Let's go."
So Mr. Walter left Frida's house with the three of them.
Walter did not ride in a horse-drawn carriage, but on foot.
In this way, the group walked for about half an hour and came to a small cabin in the suburbs.
From the outside, you can see the lights coming out through the cracks in the walls.
"Mr. Frida," Walter said as soon as he opened the door, "who do you see coming?"
There were more than a dozen people in the hut, all dressed in researcher's lab coats.
At this time, Mr. Frida was wearing glasses and holding two tweezers in his hands, and he was lying on the table and intently looking at something.
He only looked up when he heard Mr. Walter's voice.
"Ji ...... Gianna!" Mr. Frida looked a little excited, "Why are you here?"
"I'm ......," Madame Frida was in a trance for a moment, "I'm here to invite you to the banquet at the Deross' house."
"Ah, this ...... Forehead...... I see, I'll go with you." Mr. Frida said, "Can I trouble you and your friends to wait in the back room for a while?"
"yes, okay." Mrs. Frida replied obediently.
Mr. Walter led the three of them to the inner room, made some cups of tea, and went out.
"Bella, I still don't quite understand, what the hell is going on?" Elena was confused.
"I think this must have been done on the part of Mr. Frida." Bella replied.
"What do you mean?"
"First of all, Mr. Frida is not missing, he is just busy with something and has left the house for a while." "Didn't Mrs. Frida say that her husband said hello before he left?"
"Well, it seems so." Mrs. Frida nodded.
"But you didn't say where to go, did you?"
"Hmm."
"But it's been too long." Elena asked, "Why is it suspicious?"
"Yes." Bella said lightly, "Is that really the case?"
"Huh?" Elena still didn't understand what Bella meant.
"What Mrs. Frida told us is that the last time she saw her husband was two months ago,—— she didn't disappear for two months, did she?"
"Is there any difference?"
"It's simple. Where has Mrs. Frida spent most of these two months? With us at Madame Roland's salon, of course."
"When you say that, it seems to be."
"So, she's away from home at least two-thirds of the day, and even if Mr. Frida comes back, she won't be able to see her, right?"
"However, Mrs. Frida said that she had asked the servants at home, and they didn't know where Mr. Frida was?"
"Excuse me, what did Mrs. Frida ask?" Bella turned to Mrs. Frida next to her.
"I think about it......," Lady Frida recalled, "I asked Fanny, where has the old man gone?"
"Huh?" Elena couldn't help but laugh.
"So, if you ask that, of course the other party will answer that I don't know." Bella said.
"But, what happened to the thieves in the house lately, as Mrs. Frida said? How could it have anything to do with Mr. Walter?" Elena asked.
"Well, it's still Mrs. Frida's personal opinion." Bella continued, "I think that's probably the case. Previously, Mr. Frida had time to go back and get a change of clothes herself, but she had been getting busier and busier, so she asked Mr. Walter to do it for her. And Mr. Walter may have been a little anxious, and when he got there, he found that he had no key, so he climbed over the wall and went in."
"This ...... Did he say hello to the servants soon? Mrs. Frida knows him, too."
"Well, people who are engaged in academic research may sometimes have a straight brain, which is understandable."
"But why don't the people in the lab know Mr. Frida's whereabouts? It's no secret that more than a dozen researchers are here, right?"
"Well, maybe Mr. Frida said hello and told them not to tell their own wife. Also, some of the research can be a bit dangerous and not suitable for school."
"Huh? What kind of research is it?"
"Well, it's better for Mr. Frida to explain it to his wife himself." Bella said meaningfully.
"Does it have anything to do with me?" Mrs. Frida looked dazed.
Just then, Mr. Frida walked in.
"I'm sorry to keep you waiting." Mr. Frida apologized slightly, "Gianna, I'm sorry for worrying you."
"Ah, no, it's fine. As long as you remember to go to the banquet." Mrs. Frida said.
"There's no hurry." Mr. Frida said, "Come with me, my dear."
Mrs. Frida got up and followed her husband out.
"Let's go too." Bella said.
"Hmm." Elena answered and went out with Bella.
The outer room was empty, and the dozen or so researchers who had just been here were now gone.
When I walked out of the hut, I realized that everyone was outside.
"Are you ready?" Mr. Frida asked.
"No problem." Mr. Walter replied.
"It's time to get started." Mr. Frida said.
"Ignition." Walter commanded.
As soon as he finished speaking, several researchers lit the fuse on the ground.
After moving in the darkness for a few seconds, the spark ignited the object behind it.
With a "whoosh" sound, strings of firelight flew into the sky.
They streaked through the air with beams of light, then exploded with a "bang" and dispersed into colorful fireworks.
Then there was a flurry of fires and fireworks, illuminating the entire countryside as if it were day.
"Honey, remember you said you wanted to see fireworks like this again." Mr. Frida said, "I looked up a lot of information, consulted friends from the East, and worked hard for two or three months to make them. Tomorrow is your birthday, and this is a gift for you."
"Huh? Is it my birthday tomorrow?" Mrs. Frida asked, confused.
"yes. You little fool, you only know about banquets all day long, how can you remember so many things?" Mr. Frida said, "If only I remembered."
As he spoke, he stroked his wife's head with his hand.
"Ah, don't forget the banquet at the Deroses' house." Mrs. Frida said.
