The Paris Affair Chapter 25: The Ghost (1)

The Parc Central is a green area located on the south bank of the Seine.

Although it is a park, there are not many leisure facilities, but the flowers and trees here are relatively abundant, and they have been specially pruned to gradually form a place for residents to take a walk after dinner and play with children.

Since it is on the banks of the Seine, it is not only beautiful and fresh in the air, but also has some sculptures left by artists. Many artists also come here from time to time to negotiate, and the atmosphere is no less than that of another art district.

During the reign of Louis XIV, a fountain was built here to make the park even more vibrant.

However, not long ago, in order to reduce the pressure of the fiscal deficit, the royal family planned to convert this civic park into a commercial center, hoping to use it to increase financial revenue.

Because, the park itself is not taxed, which is equivalent to idleness of a usable resource.

Moreover, due to the rapid development of productive forces after the Industrial Revolution and the frequent exchange of trade between various parties, if it was converted into a commercial center, then it could take advantage of the water conservancy of the Seine River and bring a steady stream of wealth.

The person in charge of this project is none other than the newly appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer, Maximilian François Marie Isidor de Robespierre.

He hired Robert Adam, an English architect living in Paris.

According to Officer Christopher, Mr. Robert, who designed the project, encountered a ghost in the park when he came to map last night to do the survey.

He was holding a measuring tool to set up a shelf next to the fountain in the park when he heard some strange sounds in the woods.

It wasn't like an ordinary wind, but like someone wailing in the valley.

At first, he thought it was just his own delusion, but gradually he felt that something was not quite right.

So, he plucked up his courage and went over with a lantern to check it out.

As a result, just as he was approaching the bushes, he suddenly heard a loud bang behind him, and the shelf that had just been erected fell to the ground. When he looked back again, he saw a white fire swaying in the air on the Seine.

Street lights are scarce in this area, so the light is particularly dazzling.

Mr. Robert felt that the work could not be carried out.

The next morning, he briefed the head of the project, Mr. Robespierre.

So Monsieur Robespierre took the matter to the police in Paris.

"We are responsible for the mistakes of the world, and ghosts and the like are beyond our duty." As much as Officer Christopher was tempted to do so, Mr. Robespierre didn't care so much.

In the end, Officer Christopher had no choice but to come to Paris for help from experts in the field.

"But why does Mr. Robert do the surveying work late at night?" Elena asked, "Isn't it more convenient during the day?"

"Well, I've asked about that, too." Officer Christopher replied, "The answer is that there are more people in the park during the day, and it will have an effect."

"If you want to talk about the effect, but at night, isn't it more likely to deviate?"

"I don't know. Monsieur Robespierre just asked me to investigate the matter concerning the ghost."

"So, what does Mr. Pascal think about ghosts and the like?" Elena asked.

"Well, I'm not that professional." Pascal said embarrassedly, "You know, there is no special major in ghost studies at the University of Paris, and I only dabbled in it a little, otherwise I wouldn't have come to the library to look up materials."

It can be seen that apart from Mr. Pascal, Officer Christopher may not have anyone else to turn to at the University of Paris.

Ghosts are something special, just like curses, and it's normal that no one studies them.

However, the probability of encountering a ghost in ordinary life is not high, and once you encounter it, there must be some reason.

However, in many cases, it is a human delusion or misunderstanding, or someone is playing a prank. Because, ghosts don't appear in front of humans casually.

Humans are afraid of ghosts, but they don't know that ghosts may find humans more terrifying.

After a while, Mr. Pierre returned to the front desk with a thick book.

"I don't know if this book can help." Pierre said, handing the book over.

Professor Pascal took the book, placed it on the table, and began to flip through it.

This is a thick book of supernatural events, containing many stories about the dead, the spirits, the evil spirits, and the earthbound spirits...... There are also things that are not commonly found in normal magical systems. And it is also classified, some with pictures, which can be said to be an encyclopedia of supernatural aspects. Great for finding.

"How?" Seeing Professor Pascal silently close the book, Officer Christopher asked nervously.

Professor Pascal shook his head helplessly.

"Nope." Professor Pascal said, "This is probably a complete collection, but it doesn't have a similar ghost to Mr. Robert."

Only the blue light of the fire floated on the water, which is really rare.

"What can I do then?" Officer Christopher was feeling nerve-wracked.

If this problem cannot be solved, it will be difficult for Mr. Robespierre to explain it.

"Books are always made up by people." "No matter how comprehensive a book is, it can be limited by the times. It's normal that you don't include everything."

That's why human beings are constantly pursuing more knowledge and exploring more unknown areas.

"Pierre is right," said Professor Pascal, "perhaps this case would add a little more to the book?"

"But how can we be sure of what Mr. Robert has encountered?" Officer Christopher asked.

"Let's go." Professor Pascal stood up, "Let's go and see the scene first."

With that, the two said goodbye to Bella and left the library.

"Naa, I said Bella......" Elena tugged at Bella's sleeve.

"You don't want to join in the fun again, do you?" Bella said.

"You know me so well!" Elena smiled and said, "Okay, okay?"

"You're going to go yourself." Bella doesn't bother with her now.

"Huh? How can this be?"

Elena said with a bitter face.

"No, you'll have to stay here," Bella said suddenly, "that's punishment!"

"Woo-woo-" Elena gagged, like a child who had been robbed of her toy.

To be precise, it was exactly the same as Anna's expression when the food was confiscated by Bella.

Bella looked at her awkwardly appearance, but she was a little gloating.

This guy knows how to make a fuss every day, so it's good to let her stop a little now.

Bella returned to the bookshelf and began to search for other materials.

Elena lay on the table in frustration, tilting her head, boredomly counting the number of bookshelves.

She always counts things when she is bored, but the more she counts, the more bored she becomes.

Monsieur Pierre continued to organize the books on the shelves.
